I really wanted to get him trained so that he stopped pulling on the leash because I'm pregnant and I've had enough of him almost pulling me over when he gets excited or decides he wants to veer in a direction other than where I'm heading. I called multiple dog trainers who also said Leroy would need a training program for 12 weeks or an intensive doggy boot camp for 10 day or more. Prices ranged between $1,200 - 3,000. I called Duane who said he can help me in one private session. I was surprised, excited, and a little skeptical. He got me in right away which was also fantastic. We show up for our training and Duane met us outside and gave us a lesson in doggy obedience. He then proceeded to give Leroy the beat down of his life. A necessary one, he needed to learn how to listen. Huskies are notorious babies and extravagant drama queens. Poor Leroy, he howled and cried like the memes you see online. I felt bad for the neighbors. It was painful to watch but I definitely felt that Duane knew what he was doing and he wasn't hurting him. It was an intense hour. Was it worth it? Yes! I finally got the husky that no longer pulls on the leash. It's been the best thing ever and I'm so glad we did it. Thank you so much!

They also have salon services here, I booked his appointment online. It was his first time here so I got him a puppy bath that takes about 1.5-2 hours, Julie was his groomer. She made him all nice and clean and then sprayed him with puppy perfume when we picked him up. The other groomers were welcoming and very helpful with all the questions we had about the process.

And they tell me oh he's not ready we are really behind and I'm looking on the floor and there's at least five different types of haircuts hair on the floor just a disaster a mess everywhere And she tells me oh he's not ready it's probably gonna be another hour or so and I told her are you serious wow I did not hear my dog bark since they had them locked up in the back So I just left outside to wait for him A whole hour and 15 minutes after I go in and they were calling me as I was opening the door and still a mess everywhere. I just saw two girls working there not sure if there was any other ones in the back. There's absolutely no excuse for the grooming area to be that disgusting They should be fired. Someone needs to be accountable. We just had our first session with Lia and our dogs Charlie and Ziggy. Lia was amazing! I'm so happy she came to help us. She was very assertive and informative. Rocco was very reactive to cars, other dogs, cats, anything that moves fast he had to bark and chase. Not to mention obsession with tail chasing and extreme separation anxiety. The 4 week boarding training program was a perfect opportunity for Rocco to learn from Evelyne and for us as owners to better equip ourselves with training tactics. By practicing the exercises she gave us, he now comfortably is able to chew bones and eat his food around us and other dogs without lunging or barking which is a huge relief as he will be a large dog when he is fully grown. Additionally, she helped me start to shift my relationship with my puppy which resulted in more respect and obedience from him in general. We could only do a few sessions together before moving out of state, but it is easy to see that she understands dogs and they truly respond to her guidance. We still have a ways to go with training, but with the tools and lessons Maria left us with I am much more confident that we are on the right path!

On Thanksgiving, our elderly pet rat, Apricot, suddenly became lethargic and developed labored…read morebreathing. Rats are wonderful pets, but their lifespan is short, and they're prone to tumors. Apricot had developed a mammary tumor a few months prior and was nearly two years old. It was clear she was in distress, and we felt the most humane choice was to end her suffering. We assumed nothing would be open on a holiday, but I called VEG after remembering their location next to the Vons I visit. The receptionist was kind and told us to come in right away for euthanasia. When we arrived, the large main treatment area was focused on a critical case involving a Labrador, with a family gathered nearby. There were comfortable couches in a waiting area with plenty of room. We were placed in a private room to wait, which was thoughtfully designed to feel calm and comforting. It had soft lighting, gentle music, electric candles, a fragrance diffuser, and even a memory book where we wrote about Apricot while we waited. It was sweet to read what others had written too. That space made a difficult moment more manageable. Over about 45 minutes, staff checked in on us regularly, offering water and explaining the process. Once available, the doctor discussed euthanasia options. Unlike our regular vet, who uses gas, they explained that they prefer intravenous injection for a more controlled and peaceful passing. However, due to Apricot's size and likely dehydration, accessing a vein was extremely difficult. Multiple staff members attempted carefully to find one in her tail, but it was understandably challenging. The remaining option was an intracardiac injection--a needle through her chest into the heart. Apricot was already minimally responsive, and we agreed to proceed. I stepped out, while my husband stayed with her. He said she reacted briefly but passed almost immediately. This wasn't an easy experience, but the staff handled it with honesty, patience, and respect. They kept us informed at every step and treated both us and Apricot with dignity, never once making us feel like she was "just a rat". A few days later, we received a sympathy card signed by what looked like the entire team. That unexpected gesture meant a great deal to our family. With all the pets over my lifetime and all the euthanasia we've had for them, never once did a vet send us a sympathy card. We expected a high emergency holiday cost, especially given the circumstances, but the total was about $200, only slightly more than our regular vet. While euthanasia for small animals like rats can be technically difficult, we're grateful VEG was available when we needed immediate help. Everyone, from receptionist to vet tech to nurse to doctor was kind and gentle. I would return for future care, especially in urgent situations.
