We hired Kawika to install solar panels, an inverter, and batteries for our off-grid property. When he came over, he was very friendly and professional. He gave us a quote that seemed reasonable, so we signed and returned the agreement. He told us the job would take about four days. The first couple of days went well -- he showed up and got started -- but then things started to fall apart. Communication became extremely difficult. I texted him multiple times and only got replies like, "I gave you a great deal, you should be happy" or "I'm busy" or sometimes no response at all. It became almost impossible to get a clear answer about when he would return to finish the job. The batteries we purchased from him turned out to be defective. He tried to revive them many times, but couldn't make them work. I repeatedly asked him to replace the batteries or come up with another solution, but he stopped responding to calls, texts, and even Facebook messages. Occasionally, he would show up, do a little bit of work, and then disappear again. It's now been six months, and the job is still incomplete. The batteries I paid for are bad, and he hasn't refunded me or finished the installation. I kept trying to give him the benefit of the doubt -- maybe he was busy, maybe something came up -- but after months with no communication, it's clear he's ghosted us. Bottom line: Don't be fooled by his nice personality at the beginning. My experience was extremely frustrating and costly. I would not recommend hiring him. read more

Kawika is really a fantastic change from the typical contractors I have hired to work on my home. He listened to me without interrupting as I showed him my issues and then gave me his take on my electrical situation and fixed the two problems I had. He came out after he had worked on another job all day and did the work just like he said he would. He even gave me a courtesy call to let me know his first job was running late. That seems pretty rare these days. He even informed me when he was finished with the work I had done because he charges by the hour and there were 15-20 minutes left that I was going to pay for anyway. I have to say something about Kawika's customer service. I needed electrical services and called my regular electrician and a few others. No one answered NOR called back and time was getting short. I decided to search yelp and found K Tahere. Kawika not only answered the phone, but was pleasant and I could tell he was busy. Nonetheless, he made arrangements to stop by my location to check out the situation I was in later that afternoon. He did a walk through, grabbed my card and left. Within the hour, he emailed me back a quote and confirmed a date if necessary. Soon after he left, my regular electrician just showed up and apologized for not getting back to me sooner as he was busy. He did a walk through and again got back to me with a price soon after. I have to admit that I did NOT use Kawika since I went back to my regular electrician BUT PLEASE KNOW that his customer service and pleasant, humble demeanor is hard to beat! We had to have some electrical work done in order to install our central AC unit so our AC contractor referred me to Kawika. On the same day I called him, Kawika came out to give me an estimate. Due to the timing of the AC unit being installed, we had to coordinate the electrical work to be done at the same time as installation that following week. Well, what can I say. I encountered an electrical issue at my house on a Sunday, reached out to 5 different electricians, only Kawika replied. I explained the issue to him in detail, he gave me some at home remedy solutions to try first (which I appreciated, as most people would just come and charge you, this showed me he had integrity.) After that failed to remedy the problem, I reached out again to him and we scheduled for him to come out the following day. I called Kawika about a bad smell coming from our breaker panel. He answered my call immediately and scheduled to come investigate in about an hour. He found one breaker had over-heated and melted the contact. The heat generated also damaged adjacent breakers. He temporarily re-routed some circuits so that we could power most of our house. Our panel is very old and needed to be replaced, especially with the melted contact. A new panel will be ordered and installed in 3 days - great turn around! His cost is also very reasonable. read more
