Our rescue dog Wyatt has always loved other dogs and people, but when he first came to us it might be said that he loved them too well. We were incredibly fortunate that K Lynn spotted my wife being walked by Wyatt. Over the ensuing months, Wyatt went from a loving but somewhat unruly dog to -- I have to say it -- the perfect dog. OK, I'll grant that every dog person says that about their dog, but K Lynn has done some amazing things with Wyatt. First of all, his recall is ironclad. He can be running away from me toward some desirable target, like another dog or a squirrel, but when I call his name he slams the brakes as though he's seen a cliff, then trots happily back to me. Second of all, he went from loving other dogs by immediately jumping all over them to being a very polite canine citizen -- sidling up, bowing, and taking the full measure of the other dog before engaging in play. I can take Wyatt anywhere without fear that he'll run away or misbehave. Third, he's just happy. You can tell. K Lynn will swear up and down that she's not a dog trainer, and I suppose that's the case. But in my experience, if you've got a dog who's got some rough edges, she is fantastic. She starts by working one-on-one with the dog to make sure she can manage him in the context of a pack walk. Then she'll introduce him to other dogs in the pack, one at a time, to make sure he can be socialized. If all goes well, pack walks follow -- at first with a short leash, and then slowly with more freedom. As this process progressed, we could see Wyatt's home behavior improving every day. K Lynn is a pro. She communicates clearly, follows through, and runs a very tight ship. With her on the job, I know I don't need to worry about Wyatt during the day. She's also been great about advising us on how to make sure we're all sending the same signals to Wyatt. She taught me how to use eye contact and non-verbal communication with him, and since that day I haven't had a single behavioral issue I couldn't correct. The best pack hike in the east bay! Kaellyn seems to love our dog almost as much as we do, and treats her so well. She has been taking our 6 year old Husky/Aussie mix on pack hikes for at least 6 months, 5 days a week. Our dog had some nervousness around other dogs on leashed walks in the past, and it has all but disappeared in the last few months. Her recall has also improved immensely. Kaellyn has been an absolute dream to work with since we adopted our black lab Rigby over a year ago! You CAN teach an old dog new tricks! Kaellyn is Berkeley's very own "Dog Whisperer" and dog handler extraordinaire! My Lucy is a headstrong, energetic 9 year old rascal of a terrier. She was a rescue who could never be bothered with basic commands like heeling or sitting, coasting through life on her looks and her charm. Lucy has been with several very wonderful packs over the years, and when we moved to Berkeley in Jan 2015 we found her a new place in Kaellyn's pack. She joined for the exercise but got an amazing bonus of training and better overall behavior! Kaellyn starts with private walks before taking her pups out on group walks to assess their readiness for the challenges of being on the trail off leash, and to introduce training if/when needed. For Lucy, this process taught her how to heel. I was pleasantly surprised when I walk her on the weekends and, instead of pulling and running around like a horsefly on a leash, she now heels for me too. Over the months, in the normal course of pack walking, Kaellyn continues to teach better behavior like coming when called and sitting. It's been great for her behavior at home! I'm really picky about who cares for my dog. I want someone who loves and understands dogs as individuals and as social animals. Because I've put a lot of love and energy into training my dog I want someone who practices with an understanding of the most current understandings of dog psychology, behavior and training. I've tried a couple of dog walkers in the past and after a few walks my dog returned with much of her training undone (i.e. recall got worse, she ran off to play with other dogs and wouldn't listen when I called her back etc). Kaellyn is amazing with kitties. She has cared for two of my cats, each of them with their unique personalities and quirks. One kitty had some attitude, while my current cat is more mellow but needs medications on a regular basis. When she first started needing medications, it was a nightmare for me. I had to chase her around the house and tackle her, and I suspect very little of the meds actually made it in her mouth and into her system. Then I went away for a week, while Kaellyn tended to Miss Miranda. I warned her that it won't be easy, and for her not to stress too much with the success of medicating the cat. Imagine my surprise when I got home, and first went to medicate the kitty, and it was EASY! Well, as easy as medicating a cat could be. She put some cat whisperer magic on my feline.
