We tapped on Yelp's Request a Quote tool and happily received a speedy response from Shea and TMCJ…read moreFence Company. It often seems that communication and getting a response is one of the toughest hurdles to cross with completing home projects. Luckily, they were on it with the RAQ feature on Yelp. The project: rebuilding a 75' privacy fence along the one side of our property to match the other two sides. We were happy with the quote and timeline and moved forward on the project. The one thing that I think would have kicked this experience up a notch would be proactive communication updates on the project each day - even if it were a simple text of where things stand. Based on original conversations, it appeared that knocking out the project in two days would be possible (we and our neighbors both have big dogs to keep separated).unfortunately, the project ended up being more of a five day endeavor due to an error by the builders (the Pretty side of the fence was built facing the wrong direction but they quickly corrected it after we addressed it). Overall, the end result was a beautiful fence despite a few bumps along the road.

I couldn't get any other company to even return a call for a quote. Had their company come out to…read morequote and I liked his saying "under promise and over deliver". Expectations were set realistically. They came out on a Monday to begin the project. We have a chihuahua and Tyler made sure our fence was "chihuahua-proof". They were super friendly during install and we really love how the fence looks. They removed quite a bit of brush and debris around our old fence. I would absolutely use them again and highly recommend. We added a double wide gate as well and really like that so much better!

Update January 25, 2019…read more After 5 court appearances that Jody didn't go to, he attended the one this past week. The previous dates were establishing the steps needed to continue the claim without Jody's attending. In June the case judgement was for me. Then I have had to try to collect my money. There is a procedure for this. It is my understanding that had he not appeared to this last one, a warrant for his arrest would have been done. In this court appearance, a payment plan was established. If he reneges on this plan, a warrant can be granted and his bank accounts can be frozen until I get all my money plus court costs. During this proceeding, Jody lied several times and the judge and I called him on it. Jody told the judge that he didn't have the money to pay me, so the judge set a payment schedule for very little money. The judge continued asking questions and discovered that he did have the funds, so she doubled the initial payment and increased the amount of monthly payments. He also told the judge that he had called me to tell me his new address. I told the judge that this wasn't true. I explained that I had gone to his home address, which had a for sale sign in the yard. There was a mother there with 2 or 3 kids. She is the one that gave me his new address. I went there, talked to Jody and got my art piece. At that time, Jody told me I would never get my money, and he was mad at the court for requiring him to get an attorney. Guess he was wrong about me never getting the money from him.

With respect to the absolute truth, I really wanted this overall experience to be a stellar 5 star…read morereview, with 4 stars being the minimum. I am only giving them 1 star, (& I am being gratuitous), because they finally finished the project, (to our relief), & it seems mostly adequate for the most part. Everything else that led up to that conclusion was not much to be desired. When we first met & chatted/collaborated about the job, everything seemed great, BUT,....I can only suggest that the expense of your peace of mind, hire them at your own risk. It will all ultimately end up depending on what you can really tolerate vs. how it all weighs out in the eventual end/outcome of the whole experience. There were numerous communication and logistical issues, with the situation also being peppered with a substantial amount of glitches, snags & faux pas. I understand logical impediments like bad weather (some rain), but it wasn't a primary factor when it came to most of the blatant oversights & delays. They were simply scattered/sloppy & incomplete in their overall efforts. I am very sure they staggered our project with other jobs they had going on at the same time. This caused everything to be drawn out far too long. What should have been basically a 2 day *total* project, took closer to 2 weeks. We hired them to tear down our old wood fence & build a new wood fence. From the start, the first issue we encountered was that they left a section of the old fence standing the first day of the initial tear down part of the job. They also didn't haul the old fence right away after they tore most of it down. They just left the job site towards the end of the first day, so I had to call the next day to ask why they didn't haul away the old fence. I also sent a pic to the co-owner/manager to show her the current state of the situation. She nicely apologized & profusely & told me she was shocked/dismayed that they didn't finish the first portion of the job including: taking down the last section of fence, hauling away the old fencing, & also the fact that the remainder of the new fence posts were not placed completely for the second stage of the job. I was assured that at least the old fencing would be hauled away shortly after my call; & I was relieved that it was removed from the property by the end of the next day. Another issue we encountered was that we had an existing wooden platform adjoining the fence. We showed it to them & discussed it at the start. We pointed out that it is NOT stationary. They shifted it during the job & when we asked that they put it back, they never correctly put it back to it's original specs. We got tired of asking them, as well as them not understanding how to adjust it back properly; especially after they built the fence. At that point it became more of a challenge,... because the new fence was in the way now. We just wanted the ordeal to be over, so we told them to forget about it, & we will probably end up trying to fix/realign it ourselves. Other notable concerns/issues: A worker left cigarette butts on the property around the worksite. That's uncool and a huge no-no. They also trampled many plants I had shown them previous to the start of the job. I noticed they trampled some of them halfway through the job, & when I mentioned it a second time, they trampled them again. It was highly frustrating, & don't understand the blatant disregard to that important detail. Another odd & awkward situation was when a worker brought his very young son to the work site one day. I didn't feel comfortable with that, as it appeared to be a potential liability/safety issue. I tried to suggest that the child sit on one of our patio chairs while his dad worked. Thankfully, he eventually complied. Although the price seemed semi OK, (or so we thought at the time), we found out after the fact that another fence contractor would have charged us roughly half the price for cedar & not treated pine. Of course, considering all of the other issues we encountered along the way, I am just not sure it was worth all of the hassles. It was highly stressful chasing after them & also hoping they finish the job in good time, AND for it to also be done 100% properly. Their communication with their customers is terrible, including the conveying of critical information within their organization. The workers could also work on exhibiting a more professional display. A customer should be able to relax in knowing the job is being done properly regarding ALL of the details; no matter how large or how small. Customers should not have to babysit, micro manage &/or do constant follow up when they hire a contractor to do a job correctly, or as agreed upon. And,..finally, constant excuses & apologies can only stretch so far. I definitely heard more than I absolutely needed to, until the repetitive banter eventually fell upon my very tired, indifferent / deaf ears.
