Small family owned restaurant now called Poppa Joes. Bring cash to get 10% off. Open between 5am and 2pm most days except Sunday.

Best seasoned shrimp I've had in a long time! Served Friday nights. Highly recommend!

Yet spending another Thanksgiving meal here at Ole Times. One thing is you never have any…read morecomplaints about the food. The turkey is always done to perfection, the ham yummy and plenty of sides and desserts. The salad bar was completely vacant, however...this was somewhat disheartening, considering how supposedly "health minded" American adults are these days. That was our first stop of the day. Cabbage slaw, carrot salad, macaroni salad, olives, huge delicious slices of beautiful tomatoes, gorgeous slices of cucumbers, nicely green lettuce, several types of peppers and ham. Cheese, salad dressing of every kind...best stop so far! Smoked pork, ribs, fried fish, yeast rolls, sliced roast beef, ham, turkey slices, meatloaf, fried chicken, baked chicken, green bean casserole, mac & cheese, cornbread dressing, turkey gravy, mashed potatoes, lima beans, black eyed peas, creamed corn, greens, rice, fried okra... Pumpkin pie, pecan pie, lemon meringue, peach cobbler, soft serve ice cream, chocolate cream pie, cookies, brownies...oh, I'm exhausted just from trying to list everything! There was so so so much more than what I even listed here, plus the absolute best waitress and Arnold Palmer maker! Why cook at home, burden yourself, spend HOURS cleaning up afterwards and hours more packing everything away? Take yourself and your loved ones out to Ole Times Country Buffet just one time for the holidays and you'll never go back to cooking again! (I sure haven't)

Plenty of seating. The fried chicken and lime beans really good. This was our first time , but hopefully not our last. Now on the flip side , the men's bathroom was very dirty. Will not keep me from coming back. Definitely worth the stop.

We decided to go in and ask our hostess if she could move us inside. She did tell us that she had told our server we were there, but no one had ever come to our table. We wanted to make sure we were seen and served. She seated us at a nice table inside. They have a beautiful bar, nice ambiance. Our server immediately came to us. He was from Jamaica and was nothing but the absolute best , extremely intentive and very polite. Excellent suggestions. The fried okra comes in whole pieces . We also try the fried chicken that brined in tea. Very crispy and tender. Great fried green tomatoes. My husband and I split the ribeye, which was absolutely delicious. Plenty for 2. Highly recommend . We both had cocktails, espresso martini, and margaritas. They make a very good cocktail.

It was average at best and didn't stand out in any meaningful way. The biggest issue, however, was the service. Our dinner stretched to nearly three hours, and we frequently had to ask for basic things like water. It felt disorganized and, at times, frustrating. I understand that restaurants can get busy and that staffing challenges happen, but based on our experience, the service fell well below expectations. While the location is worth seeing, I would not return for the food or service based on this visit.

Went here for late lunch / early dinner on a weekend in the winter. The place is interesting…read morebecause there were no windows and the breeze was blowing through the building. Luckily there was a space heater right next to us to provide warmth. The outdoor seating had big heaters too, but they were reluctant to turn those on. The place had a really laid-back, country ambiance, like you would imagine a bbq joint to have. There were rolls of paper towels at the tables and your food comes in a plastic tray lined with aluminum foil and some plastic silverware. I had the centercut rib meal specifically because it comes with two sides and I wanted baked-beans and collard greens. The collards were but big unlike the chopped stuff I've had in the past and were good. The baked-beans were also good and I ate most of those too. The ribs (two) looked beautiful with the bark seasoning and they tasted good too. The meal came with some bread that did not taste good and I didn't want to eat all of it. The sweet tea was fabulous and you get free refills and already comes in a styrofoam to-go cup for the win. The service was excellent. The two younger waitresses were very nice, attentive, and helpful. No problems there. We learned from them that there is live music many nights during the week in the evening from around 5-6pm to close (I think around 9pm) Although I had a great experience at Captain Stan's, I unfortunately cannot say that the food is life-changing, which is what I am looking for with BBQ. The prices were fair and the portions were more than adequate. *tip - they offer a military discount.

This is the real deal: a classic roadhouse with truly excellent barbecue. To make it even better…read morethere was a very good band "Midwest Riders" playing that night, playing mostly country from the 70s-80s, switching to rock with an emphasis of the southern genre on the second set. And a few of their own songs too, which were pretty good too. All the way from Michigan of all places. The specialty here is the ribs. They are heavily smoked with a substantial dark bark. Great flavor, tender, and meaty. They're served without a sauce; just the dry rub is sufficient. (Maybe there was sauce available on the side but I didn't ask.) The rib plate is a serving of 2 ribs with a choice of 2 sides. Also sliced pickled banana peppers, a nice touch. I thought 2 might not be enough so I upgraded to the half rack (5 ribs) and ate 3 and saved 2 for later. They were quite large so I probably could have made do with 2. My sides were collard greens and potato salad. The collards were kind of ordinary, but the potato salad? Wow, almost as good as my wife's, who makes the best! Potatoes not cooked down to mush, not too mayonnaisey, tangy, peppery, and crunchy from diced peppers. Good portion sizes for the sides too. No corn bread or hush puppies, unfortunately. Other barbecue items include chicken and Boston Butt. The menu makes it harder to order these as a meal (a la carte only for some reason) but it can be done. Also chili, peel&eat shrimp, oysters (when available locally) and a few things for non-barbecue lovers. I sat at the outside bar where I could easily take in the scene: the band on the stage, the cheerful warm fire in the center throwing sparks and a pleasant smoky aroma, the patrons, many of whom were in costume on this Halloween night, kids dancing to the music (surprisingly no adults), and dogs all over the place running amok and having a great time too. Speaking of the bar: don't expect craft beers or gourmet drinks here; it's all generic national brands. I had an Angry Orchard, a pretty bad cider from New York. Lingering a while to listen to the music I eventually finished with a slice of key lime pie. Adorned with nothing more than whipped cream from a can and a slice of lime it was nevertheless surprisingly good. 5 stars so far. Normally I give a pass on bad restrooms, especially in a place like this, but in this case, sadly they lost a star. I heard somebody mention the men's room needed attention and 10 minutes later I wanted to use it and found a toilet filled to overflowing, the floor soaked with water and presumably other liquids. Surprisingly no urinal (yes I was in the right room for my gender). So I decided to "hold it" and just washed my hands, getting enough soap from the nearly empty dispenser. A half hour later when I visited again the toilet was fixed and the floor mostly dry but the soap dispenser was completely empty. Isn't that something they would check at the same time they fixed the clog? This wouldn't stop me from coming back, but I sure hope the kitchen staff has access to better facilities!
