Don't let the curb appeal influence your decision to stop here. The waitstaff is top notch and the food is made from scratch. If you are looking for delicious food then this is your place. If you're looking for a dining experience then probably not your cup of tea, unless you consider road side cafes a dining experience. The waitress surprised my littles with this super cute turtle pancake!

Delicious blueberry pie a la mode.

You must try their pies, so luscious. I truly wanted to stay and eat all. The blueberry was rich and delish with a little scoop of vanilla ice cream I was in heaven. The coffee was nice to wash it down. The waitress was so friendly and talkative. She knew all her regulars and what they eat and how they like it served (excellent service) sauce on side etc. This place allowed us to observe the town folk and enjoy a home made pie. It's a simple diner next to the gas station.

Located next to the conoco gas station. Yelp got it wrong, hopefully they will change it (already made my suggested location change) One of the few food options in Lucas, KS. Population less than 400 However, was delighted to try their homemade white bread and pies made fresh daily. Would definitely eat here after stopping at Garden if Eden. Food is simple, fresh and to the point Must tries: Homemade cinnamon roll (gooey and delicious) Homemade white bread ( so fluffy and light) Homemade pie (rotating flavors) Bacon (thick, salty and perfectly crisp) Friendly service. One fantastic waitress for two rooms full of people!

Homemade cinnamon roll! Always served hot!

Good country cooking, friendly and helpful staff. Not much for decor or ambiance. Good selection of menu items.

Chicken Fried Streak is awesome. Peppered gravy on top. Colder is really good there too. If you are driving by. You gotta stop

Grilled chicken sandwich and onion rings. Very much worth it. Chicken was tender. A bit grungy outside and in. Good location, good service.

I'll be honest: Russell, Kansas, was not on my mental map of places to eat well. But fate (and…read moreYelp) intervened. Suddenly we were pushing open the door to Waudby's entering, notably, through the bar side, which felt charmingly unpretentious in a you-wouldn't-get-this-in-Manhattan sort of way. The space splits cleanly between lively bar energy and a quieter, separate dining room, which I deeply appreciated after hours on the road and approximately twelve internal monologues. Then, the food. Genuinely outstanding. I ordered the Philly, fully expecting road-trip decent, and instead received something delightful, indulgent, and as good as versions I've had in Pennsylvania neighborhoods where people argue loudly over sandwiches. But the true sleeper hit? The cornballs. Please, I beg you, do not pass on them. They are crispy, nostalgic, and perfect. The kind of globs of fried bliss you'll still be thinking about once you're home pretending to only eat salads. Waudby's is proof excellent food exists far beyond city zips, and I would absolutely return. If I find myself in Russell again, this is a mandatory stop. The waitress and servers were absolute sweeties. My friend adds: the homemade ranch dressing was so good, you could almost drink it.

While in Wilson, we spotted the Midland Railroad Hotel and Restaurant and decided to arrange the itinerary for our next trip so we could spend the night in WIlson. So, we arrived late afternoon and got checked in. The hotel has been restored to what it was like around the 1920's but with full upgrades including fire sprinklers, air conditioning, etc. Our room was a bit on the small side (1920'ish) but was quite comfortable. The bed was very comfortable and we got a great night's sleep. The was a complimentary breakfast in the morning that consisted mostly of local bakery projects, meats and cheeses. If you looking for modern amenities or a full HOT breakfast, you should stick with the major hotel chains. BUT, if you're into history and histrorical restorations, this place can't be beat. We thoroughly enjoyed our night in Wilson at the Midland Railroad Hotel and Restaurant.
