I highly recommend getting in car accident and injuring your neck. It's really excellent to have your neck seize up randomly if you sit for longer than 10 minutes (perhaps a necessary if unpleasant reminder of our mortality, which creeps ever closer and faster the longer you spend sitting). Not being able to turn one's neck to the left fully for a couple of days is good fun too.
The oft-reported silver lining in unfortunate situations materialized this time in the form of JW Chiropractic. I took to the forum of desperation otherwise known as an open Facebook query to ask for chiropractor / neck specialist recommendations. Dr. James Wong was recommended by a longtime friend and seemingly vouched for by several "likes" (which validates many other aspects of our lives lately).
As the neck pain/discomfort increased, I reached out and was able to quickly book my consultation within a few days. Since the consultation, I've seen Dr. Wong twice a week for the past four weeks, which was the initial length of treatment he recommended.
The office is clean, spacious, and comforting, and it's conveniently located on 45th between 6th and 7th avenue. His staff has been quite friendly and easy to work with in terms of scheduling (and re-scheduling) appointments.
I saw some other reviewers on ZocDoc comment on how prompt the appointment times are and I have to agree. The office is busy in the sense that every time I've had an appointment, there has been a patient right before and one right after me. But I've never felt rushed, and my appointment has always started on time or within a few minutes. I'm in and out in half an hour, which is huge if you don't have hours to kill waiting in a doctor's office.
Dr. Wong is bafflingly affable, knowledgeable, and takes his time explaining why he's taking a certain approach in treatment. He also sent me Lenox Radiology get an x-ray done before doing any real treatment, since this was car accident related. Apparently any good chiropractor will do this to ensure that the patient can handle treatment.
I'm happy to say that after four weeks, I feel significantly better than I did the first time I walked in. Pain is 95% gone and my range of motion is noticeably improved. I will likely continue treatment on an as-needed basis going forward. If you're in the area and sit in an office all day, changes are suffer from some kind of neck or back pain. If so, consider paying JW Chiropractic a visit. read more
