Five Points Barber Shop - Jimmy, when he's not fishing...

So, Mr. Jimmy has been cutting hair for 40 years from what I understand. He seems like a good guy…read more If you just want a straight forward old fashioned haircut, this place will suffice. He charges a more than reasonable price. The shop is only open mornings and not every day, so you would want to call ahead. He loves fishing and his little place reflects that. You have to walk down several stairs to get to the shop.

With the growing trend of Sportclips's disguised as old-fashioned barber shops, it's important to…read morerecognize the original barbers of Raleigh. Jimmy, at Five Points Barber Shop, is one of them. He's been cutting hair for over 30 years, and he has been cutting my hair for about four. If you don't live in Five Points or in downtown Raleigh, you probably want to try to find a barber closer to you due to limited hours. Jimmy works half the day from 7:30-11:30am Monday-Saturday. Walk-ins only. If you get to the shop within those hours, he'll get to you. You should call ahead to make sure he isn't on vacation or to check the current wait. In general, I would avoid 10:30am on a Saturday morning. 7:30-8am in the middle of the week is usually pretty safe. Make sure to bring some cash. Normal haircuts are $12 and Jimmy appreciates tips so he can afford new fishing or skydiving gear. You can get cash at many places in Five Points, including the gas stations and Wells Fargo. Remember to learn how to talk to your barber. Don't just say "a little bit off the top". Memorize your clipper guards or how many inches you want off the top and sides. If you aren't sure what you want, make sure to tell Jimmy that and he'll work with you by cutting a little bit off at a time.

Lemme just say…read more After today's visit. I'm a FadePros man. What a great experience. The vibe is cool. Music playing had me relaxed. Everyone is super friendly. I decided last minute to get a fresh cut for Easter weekend (1am Saturday morning lol ) I was able to book an appointment for 930am right online. I booked my appointment with Jorge. Straight up... Jorge is a master at his craft. Wow. He did exactly what I wanted and more (mid/high fade, scissor trim up top). He took his time. Explained how and what he was doing and why. My hair came out perfect. He explained how to tame my cowlick in the back of my head. He cut the back to minimize the chance of bumps. The exfoliating wash was great I was about to fall asleep. He even showed me some tips on how to betters style my hair. lol. When I tell you I was ready to make my next app before he finished... I ain't exaggerating. Cannot recommend Jorge and FadePros enough. Probably one of my best barber experiences ever. Cannot recommend them enough.

I recently moved here from NYC/LA and was looking for a barber who could get my cut right. After…read morereading good reviews about the shop and barbers, I decided to book an appointment. I noticed they had a female barber, Natalie, and felt like I could relate, so I booked with her. Natalie took the time to understand my hair type and exactly what I wanted with my cut and fade. We also had a great conversation during the appointment, which made the experience even better. I went to her about two or three times and was always happy with the results. Unfortunately, my last appointment was a frustrating experience. The day of my appointment, it was suddenly changed to another barber and then moved from my original 10:30 AM time to 5:30 PM without any notice. When I called the shop, I was told that I had called to reschedule, which was not true. I asked to be placed back in my original slot since the double booking was not my fault. When I arrived, Natalie was not there and her station was empty. No one explained what happened or answered my questions about whether she still worked there. The haircut I received also did not come out the way I asked. Because of the lack of communication, I will not be returning. After a long search, I was able to find Natalie again in downtown Raleigh. I will gladly drive 20 minutes to see her rather than the 7-minute trip to Fadepro. She was the one who made the experience great in the first place. Thanks to google! Found her IG: @caro_cutz
