This place is amazing. I hope to one day win the lottery, buy a beach house, rent a truck, and furnish that home with all the beautiful pieces I find here. I follow this story on Instagram and I am addicted, pretty much every piece they post. The location is in cute Dover and the store is pretty large so I encourage you to go and look on every level, in every nook. I have gotten a few items from here and have never been disappointed. If you see something online they have and cannot get there immediately, just reach out to them and, if not already taken, they will hold one day for you to get there to see if it is what you want to purchase. I also have to say the prices are very reasonable. And, sometimes they do these 20% events - when they do, I try to go up even if I don't think I want or need anything. A must-stop by when in Dover. This is not a one-and-done place. They are always changing their product. I believe we buy at least one thing every time we go. The staff is great and they really have a variety of new crafts to some cool antique finds. There is street parking all around and they are right in the downtown area. read more

The staff is very helpful in every way, and quite friendly. BTW, I've been in this shop a gazillion times since moving to Dover nine years ago. Whenever I spend time outside New York, I see these little shops. Cutesy housewares stores, often in malls, usually with exactly the same merchandise. It always seems to be replicating a style, but until yesterday I had never seen the actual authentic *style* before at a store. When I walked in here, I was expecting the mall version, which usually features metal barn stars painted or sanded down to look like the paint is chipping. But as soon as I walked in, I realized that the "antiqued" surfaces were actually antique! Imagine my surprise! Once I noticed this, my energy perked up and I suddenly went from sllightly interested to manic. I NEEDED to have antique perfume bottles, beautiful wood and metal mirrors, and stunning wood furniture. Not that I actually got to buy much of the stuff, but you understand... The prices were low. Lower than the crap chain store version. The two items I did end up purchasing were small and large blue glass mason jars, priced at $5 and $8, I believe (for comparisons sake, a more modern version of the larger one is for sale on Etsy for $31). I also picked up a small wood block with my initial on it for a quarter. I have seen fake mall shops, and I have seen pretentious antique stores, but I have never seen something like this. This place is absolutely worth traveling for, and I can't wait to return! ps. This is a great place to pick up unusual gifts or home furnishings. I do have two suggestions: they need evening hours (especially during Christmas season), and they should change some of their stock more often. I bought a framed print about 3 years ago and they stil have a copy of the same one for sale on their wall. That said, this place is well worth checking out. read more

We have a 80's colonial is great need of a coffee table for our living room full of collected semi formal furniture from our parents. We were gob smacked to find a Hitchcock maple table for $48! So happy and feeling very blessed to have found this establishment! Our favorite find since moving to this area almost 4 years ago. read more

The added bonus of shopping here is to be observed by little four-legged mascot, Maggie, and to get a chance to pet her while browsing through the aisles. I've been going to Just The Thing since 1998. It's the best locally owned store in the Seacoast area. The store is a lot bigger than it appears. The window displays are always amazing and inviting. Half my house is furnished with their reasonably priced furniture. They have a great selection of home decor, vintage items, antiques, repurposed/recycled, jewelry, signs, and anything in between. The staff is always friendly and helpful. You would pay twice as much anywhere else. There is definitely a good reason why this store has been open for almost 20 years. I would recommend this store to anyone, you won't be disappointed. You usually will find "just the thing". read more

I went by this place many times while living here. Frankly I will never go back. Lots of refurbished JUNK . Whoever is painting this garbage has to make sure it's also functional. Many of the painted dresser drawers were broken. They are crowded and overpriced, not to mention they have horrible customer service. Not one hello from anyone. I like this store. I can always find "Just the Thing" while browsing through, a unique and different piece that will complement my home and have guests ask "where did you find that?" The only downfall is you really can't go in here with a child. Mine is well behaved and does well in a stroller or a backpack, but I can't maneuver either in this store. No way to push the stroller through the store and if I wore him in a backpack I'm fairly certain I'd knock things over. It's a cool place to shop, but doing so with kids would be less than enjoyable. read more

I like this store A LOT, and buy from them regularly. The largest pieces I've purchased are a full sized bed frame (labeled as a queen... Fixing that was a headache and a half), a dresser, and a kitchen table. Even the fabric for my napkins and ornaments are from the store. With that said, they're pricey, stocked floor to ceiling, and a tight squeeze to maneuver your way around in. The house dog Maggie is sweet though, and I'd recommend stopping in at least. read more

Walked in on a Sunday and found a terrific piece - a huge multi-drawered chest that stands about 6.5 feet tall. It's SOLID and has a ton of character. It wasn't cheap, but coming from New York we probably paid 70% or more less than we would have just a year ago. A lot of good stuff at very reasonable prices. Why go Ikea when you can get something that's American and made to last. Two thumbs up. read more

Fabulous shop! It is bigger than you think! Besides all the great items the owner brings in & displays quite nicely (antiques, furniture as well as seasonal decor) there are some excellent artists/crafters that sell there, and probably 15-20 antiques & vintage ware dealers who rent spaces. The prices are very reasonable & the dealers bring in fresh inventory every week. Their displays are always interesting. This should be your first stop for furniture! And it looks like the stuff flies out of there! read more

The owner of this place purchased a chair at my yard sale for $5, a chair that I had refurbished myself. That afternoon I see it listed on her Facebook page for $79!! Are you kidding me?? Talk about screwing people over. I will never shop there again and have told everyone I know what she does. Goes to yard sales looking for things cheap, talking people into letting her pay nothing, and then selling for extreme amounts over what she paid. Ridiculous. read more
