While we live in Boston and Exciting Windows is based in NH, Ed Hopkins arranged to come down to Boston with samples several times while we were trying to decide on styles. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He was also very careful in taking measurements and reviewed the order with us in detail to make sure all of our options were accurately reflected before it was transmitted to the manufacturer. Exciting Windows also had some attractive deferred financing offers, which we were able to take advantage of. The shutters are custom made so it takes several weeks for them to arrive, but Ed kept us apprised of the estimated arrival date. He worked with our schedule to set up an install date and the installation went very smoothly. Unfortunately some of the shutters were damaged in-transit from the manufacturer, but Ed had called us in advance as soon as he realized this and given us the option of having the handful of damaged shutters installed and then replacing them when the new ones arrived. This worked out great because we really wanted the privacy provided by the shutters in the meantime. The damaged shutters were replaced at not cost as quickly as they could be reproduced. A few months later, I discovered that one shutter had some damage to it that we hadn't noticed earlier. Ed came down to Boston to see how best to handle it and determined that it was best to replace it at no charge. The customer service has been exceptional and he really stands by his work. I highly recommend Exciting Windows as we were very pleased with the customer service, the competitive pricing, and the quality of the product. I really like being able to find cards that are unique & somewhat local instead of CVS, target type places. I spent more time in this store than I should've but bought several birthday cards that were pretty neat. Many of them were either made from recycled materials or had soy free ink, not the usual Hallmark crap. The store is a decent size & they have other random household items that they sell here. Yeah come in & take a gander, you never know what might find.

I liked it so well that I ordered an 8 by 10 identical rug (except for the size). I had to wait a couple of months to order for the larger size as it was not available until March of 13. I was a little disappointed when it came.The weave of the rug wasn't as tight as the first one and it seemed like a lot of yarns were finding their way out needing to be clipped.Obviously the quality was not the same as the smaller one. Today 7 months later, I regret having purchased the larger one. It looks like it is covered with fuzz like an old sweater from the 60's. The smaller one still looks top notch with no fuzz at all.

Condescending Owner and Rude Vibes - Skipped It Entirely…read more Tried this place once before and the owner (Allen, I believe) came off as incredibly condescending and rude from the jump. Dismissive attitude, talking down like we didn't know what we wanted, zero warmth or help--just made the whole shopping experience off-putting. Walked out without buying anything. Fast-forward to recently: my dad and I were hitting up every furniture shop in the area looking for a solid living room set. He suggested stopping at Allen Wayside since it's right there on Route 1. I told him straight up about my previous run-in--the owner's snarky, superior tone turned me off completely. No way was I stepping foot in there again, especially not dragging my dad into that nonsense. We drove right past without even pulling in.

I purchased a new sofa from Allen Wayside Furniture. It arrived with a tear/cut in it. To my…read moresurprise, their policy was not to replace it, but to have it repaired. I was not happy with this approach, and told them. Nonetheless they said the vendor was entitled to one repair attempt. The repair was unsatisfactory. They still refused to replace the sofa saying it was their policy to do however many repairs it took to make it look new. The customer service was atrocious and they fought me all the way. Months later, after involving the BBB (they have a D- rating BTW), and my credit card company, they agreed to replace it providing I pay another delivery fee! Dealing with Allen Wayside Furniture was very unpleasant and the worst customer service I've encountered anywhere. I do not recommend this business.
