    Emma's 1st Birthday Party - Photobooth

    First and foremost, despite always relying on reviews I rarely write them. Usually only when a company goes way above and beyond do I take the time to write. And man did JI Entertainment go above and beyond. My wife and I (ok fine mostly my wife) began planning our daughter's first birthday 3 months after she was born. We both work in Advertising so we've both been trained to pay attention to minute details and obsess over things like color palettes, design, presentation, etc. It's because of that we tend to do everything ourselves and prefer not to rely on planners/vendors for help. However, between a new job, hectic travel schedules and, well, a new little one we decided to hire out the planning & details of our party. We started by contacting about 10 event planners, venues, etc. to see what was out there, get ballpark costs and feel out different providers. At first pass, we were very disappointed with what was out there. In instances where we contacted venues directly and spoke to their planners most had a 'take it or leave it' attitude. It was their space and their rules - no wiggle room for negotiation or creativity. e.g. we liked one venue but wanted some alternative lighting and asked if we could bring in heaters and they wouldn't allow it. As for the planners we were surprised to learn that despite many of them claiming to be full-service they all just specialized in one to two things. e.g. catering and/or just decor. So we reached out to some friends & colleagues - one of which had used JI for both a wedding and a Sweet 15 party. After our first call with Angel we knew we had our guy. He told us a little about his capabilities and process, but mostly asked questions about what we envisioned for our daughter's party and the type of event we wanted to put together. From that point forward it was an amazing and flawless experience. Whatever idea we threw at Angel he had a solution. In the end, based on all the variables he actually convinced us to have our event at our own house not only saving us money, but being the perfect location for all our needs (no time limit, central location for guests, outdoors with lighting & catering, etc.) He took care of everything from the decor of our backyard (tent, gift table, cake & candy table, etc.), lighting, food & entertainment. There wasn't one aspect of our party where Angel didn't exceed our expectations. For instance, we wanted a photo booth for our event to not only serve as entertainment but as an easy way for us to capture photos throughout the day/night without having to chase everyone around with a camera. After dropping off the photo booth the morning of the event Angel shared 3 new things with us. First, he had taken our invitation that we shared with him at our first meeting and incorporated it into the Welcome screen of the photobooth - so just before every picture everyone got a welcome message from our daughter. Second, he incorporated our theme & details of our invitation into the printed photos that each person would get as a keepsake. It was a subtle detail, but we loved it. Lastly, and the coolest part, he remembered that I wanted to try to find a way to capture video during our event but we also didn't want to hire a videographer. It felt excessive for a 1 year old party. So he set it up so that each person that took a photo at the photo booth could record a small message for us/our daughter. He even ensured that his staff working the booth all night made it a point to remind people to leave us a message. This. was. awesome. We got some of the most amazing videos ever - they made us laugh, cry and more importantly thankful. I could go on and on about Angel and his team, but I'll just say this. Do yourself a favor and hire him for your event. He's phenomenal and you won't be disappointed.

Both times I reached out to Donaji pretty late in planning but she was such a life saver- helped us pull together both events in 3-4 weeks! She's very responsive and helps you through all the details! Our first event was a small family gathering of 30- she was able to provide rentals, catering, servers, a bar tender, and videographer. Great linen, serve ware, tablescape, and food! For our second event at an event location in Pasadena, she provided catering, servers, and a bar tender as well! Again, another delightful experience with Donaji who has always in my experience gone above and beyond! She followed up with me each time, even on details that were not under her contracting services- just her being helpful to make our lives easier and have a successful event! Whenever we thought of something that we thought was complicated, she would immediately have a solution that she could execute seamlessly. For things we didn't have much of an opinion on, Candice always knew what was best given our preferences, but always presented us with options just in case we wanted to go a different way. She kept us on track throughout the process, and when things got stressful for us closer to the date, she stepped in and took a lot off of our plate. Everything at the wedding went extremely smoothly. We had no stress, everything was taken care of. We were able to enjoy our wedding completely carefree. I usually keep a to do list of everything that needs to get done in life to make sure nothing slips through the cracks, even if its not something that I need to do. I tend to keep that list even when I'm fairly confident the other person will complete that task. With Candice, I felt comfortable not keeping that list, and just trusting she would take care of everything, which she did. But just the fact that I was able to get comfortable enough with Candice easy on to not keep that list was such a huge relief. Normally when I go to a wedding, I can identify the planner, but I tend to not have a strong opinion about the planner. Many of our guests commented on how smoothly everything ran with Candice and her team. She made a uniquely positive impression on our guests.

She front loaded her fee, which I foolishly and naively paid. She did not deliver on caterer, or vendors. I found my own. She refused to be present during the event, and she refused to give me a refund. After cashing my check, things quickly went south. Her caterer couldn't cook the dishes I wanted served, so I found my own caterer. She was not happy with that, as planners traditionally get a cut from the caterer. The rental company rep showed up at my house without a price list, and Jordi and her told me how they were overbooked several months out and I needed to put a deposit down right away! ( Oct is not their busy season) I balked at their pricing and the quality I was getting for the $$ I was spending, and asked Jordi to get other bids. She refused, and even went one step further to tell me there were no other places that did lights and equipment ( false). I found my own. I ended up using another company that had superior products- shantung silk tablecloths, crystal stemware, and italian flatware and hundreds of feet more in string lights for less than half the price I would spend with Jordi's choice where I was stuck with cheap polyester, and low end flatware and glasses. We are talking about a difference of many many thousands of dollars. Staffing, Jordi sent an elderly lady in a footcast for the interview. She insisted that I hire two bartenders when there were only soft drinks and wine being served. She pushed exorbitantly priced appetizers which I didn't want. At each point I expressed my dissatisfaction. Then, Jordi then told me she wouldn't be present during the event, as she 'wasn't needed", and so I would have to use her "vetted staff". This was outrageous. Her choice was physically not up to the task. I found other trustworthy staffing. At this point, I fired Jordi, and asked for a refund. Jordi has refused to give me a refund. She has blatantly refused, despite failing to perform on every task. My party was elegant and beautiful, no thanks to Jordi. She caused me nothing but aggrevation. She didn't come through in any form or fashion, and she has refused to give me a refund.
