The teachers are great, Especially Miss Kelsey. She does wonders with her Pre-Ballet and Ballet 1 classes! Such patience she has, its amazing! When I used to dance at another school when i was younger, they had given me a complete schedule when we signed up, when the recital would be, when the dress rehearsal were. My parents knew exactly what to expect for the dance year, knew when to plan vacations according to our schedule. Napa Valley Ballet doesn't not offer that. so be prepared for you child to possibly miss something if you plan ahead like I do. When it came to the recital, which they knew would be at the end of the "school year" in June. We didn't learn about the date of the recital until Mid April because they had not secured a location for the recital... Wouldn't this be something that they should have been planning since the beginning of the school year? The poor planning of the recital will also most likely lead to my step-daughter missing her dress rehearsal, The ONLY rehearsal, which is a whole week before the actual recital. My step-daughter is 5, and in two different dances, I DO NOT expect her to even remember what she is required to do a whole week ahead of time, if she can even make it.. The ladies who work the front desk never have any idea of whats going on. They can never give me an answer to any question I have. For instance, when they finally announced the date and times for the recital, the lady at the desk had NO idea if the tickets were on sale, or when they would be.. (the recital was less than two months away when i asked.) The poor planning of this schools events, and lack of communication at this establishment has lead me to look at other ballet schools for my step-daughter, which I don't really want to do considering my step-daughter loves her teacher and has become friends with the girls in her class. If the owner can step up, and take more initiative in her business, my step-daughter might possibly attend in the fall again.

It's basically whatever the piano teacher decides on and although I'm sure they are all talented, there is no organization within the piano teacher. It costs too much to be this unorganized. The piano teacher herself even offered private lessons to come to our house rather than go through the school. Maybe others have had better experiences, but we ended up going to our old piano teacher who was much farther.

We started our 5 year old in lessons just after Christmas. She has a wonderful teacher, and she performed confidently at the recital in June at the Deville. Our daughter also loves the weekly theory classes that are included in the monthly price of tuition. She is always excited to go to class, and even to do theory homework! The price is a little higher than other local options but the quality of the teachers is exceptional. We would definitely recommend signing up for a trial session here. It's fun and inspirational for our daughter walking in and hearing someone singing opera upstairs, or a cellist or drummer having a lesson in the back. The one struggle we have experienced is that sometimes it takes a while to hear back from YACM via email, so I suggest calling between 10-2 on a week day if you have questions because someone will usually always answer the phone. Also, we do practice piano homework with our daughter every day at home, which at first seemed overwhelming because we have three kids 5 and under--however now it's just part of the bedtime routine, and she is starting to read and understand music. Something very cool to see. We will definitely enroll our other kids here when they are old enough.

We have three of our four kids involved with acting at J and S, and all I can say is WOW. This is…read morea place like no other for helping children build confidence, and to learn skills of self assurance, projection, and stage presence, which help whether they go on in life to work on Wall Street, Broadway, or in between! Self confidence is something that so many children struggle with in this day and age, and the caring, amazing staff at J and S make sure every single child knows how special they are! In addition to the amazing plays the kids perform, J and S also has terrific summer camps and preschool/kindergarten programs. My son, now age 6, was involved in the latter prior to being old enough for the plays, and now all three older kids are in the casts, as well as eager participants in camps. My youngest, now age 4, can not wait to go to camp next summer! The hearts on the staff of J and S are so open and caring and full of love for these kids. They all truly want to make a positive difference in their lives. I for one can say that my kids have not only gained skills in acting/singing and stage performance, but have gained invaluable lessons in self confidence, respect, and teamwork. The Employees run their shows in a totalitarian manner. By which I mean any small complaint or note you have is taken as a great offense and disrespect and grounds for dismissal from a show you PAID TO BE IN. This is possibly understandable in the young kids show but insanity for a teen show. Worried you'll trip of your costume is made longer in the front. Rude. We're in the bathroom when you were called on stage during rehearsal. How dare you, better not defend yourself. The workers are nice up until the end and then no matter how good you're doing they become impossible. I feel lucky I aged out and can't return because I don't think I could manage being in another show. Another note. They recently lowered the age to enter the teen show and expected the tweens to act with the maturity and awareness of high schoolers. A standard while not impossible is difficult to meet.

Sandy is a lovely dancer and very knowledgeable in a variety of styles. She teaches because it is what she loves. Why do something else, or retire, when you can dance? The studio is now located in Yountville at the Lincoln theater. It is a wonderful location, very peaceful, plus, it feels exciting to be rehearsing inside a theater that has hosted so many phenomenal performances over the year. (My favorite actor has walked on the same floor that I tap dance on ever week. How fun is that?) There are a variety of dance styles taught and a variety of age groups. For adults she currently has beginning tap and intermediate tap. Children's classes include ballet, tap, contemporary jazz, creative movement (3-4 year olds), ballet, tap, jazz, ballet/tap/jazz (combo class), pointe, and ballet/tap/jazz (7-8 year olds). Most of the children's classes have multiple skill level classes. She puts on a recital each year, with each class performing one or more numbers and always highlighting her 10 year students as well as honoring the graduating seniors. Sandy is clear in her instruction and is often willing to help out if you need extra help. Her prices can't be beat, nor can her sincerity for the love of dance be outdone. I highly recommend this studio!
