I came in for a private Pilates lesson last week with John, and it was an eye opening experience! I am familiar with mat Pilates, but new to Pilates done on the equipment, so it was quite the surprise at what a thorough workout it was! We started with some really relaxing stretches done on the "barrel" that felt great on my back. It really opened up my lower back which I find is hard area to release. Next we were on to the "Trapeze Table" which isn't as intimidating as it sounds. There John took me though a series of exercises using resistance springs for my arms and legs, as well as a couple of incredible moves for my abs. It surprised me how much I felt the work being done in the abdominals, yet the moves were soothing to my back as I rolled up and down my spine. John is an excellent teacher, correcting my form and guiding me through each move. He did a really great job of making me feel confident even when trying new movements that I was a little unsure of at first. Next we moved to the "Reformer" which was definitely my favorite. You're basically using resistance springs as well as your own body weight as you glide though space- super cool. My balance and core strength were definitely worked! Plus a couple of the moves just felt great- my legs would get a much needed stretch while I moved in one direction and then a nice strengthening feeling coming back. John spotted me as he guided me into a challenging move called "the Snake." I was impressed with John's expertise, knowing how to challenge me, while taking into consideration my fitness level and limitations. Finally, a stretch! And none too soon. Each person gets a full stretch after the workout and it was awesome. I felt like an athlete. John is very knowledgeable about body mechanics and is a massage therapist as well as a Pilates instructor. I'm super impressed with what a great workout Pilates turned out to be. There was more full body stretching than I expected which was excellent, but it was also more challenging than I thought, too. I loved all the moves I learned in my session, but I'm excited to go back and learn more and see how far I can go. The studio, filled with all it's intriguing equipment, is beautiful, and they had cool music playing during the workout which really completed the experience. Plus the bathroom is super cute and tropical. Overall, I'd say it was a highly successful foray into the world of Pilates, and I've already been telling my family and friends about it because I think its something that they could all benefit from! Jupiter Massage and Pilates is pristinely clean and has the most qualified and amazing massage therapists in town. Hot rocks and aromatherapy are included in the price of your massage! The Pilates room has music that you can really work out to and you can have private or group sessions from certified instructors that are extremely qualified and want to see you succeed no matter what level you are at.
