An hour later (you get caught up in all the eclectic items they offer). During the hour I checked out cat toys, dog toys, cards (fabulous collection of off beat greeting cards), cat litter, yo yos, dominoes, keys (they cut keys), gardening tools, pocket knives and many other items. You can find a nice weird gift for someone here. And yes, I bought a timer for $6.99. Go there and be reminded of back-in-the-day Scrivener's.

The first time he called, my husband spoke to a guy who said they needed to see the key first to see if they could do it. Fair enough, but they could have looked the key up first on Google or something. My husband forgot to ask how much it would cost IF they could do it, so he called back. A woman took his call and was short with him, as if she didn't want to be bothered. She snapped, "Oh no - we can't do that!" My husband told her he just talked to a man who told him to bring it down. So then she said "Oh, okay. $2 or $3." When he arrived and handed them the key, she took one look at it and "No we can't do that!" She was very abrupt. We would have shopped a bit for other things, we got the clear impression that our business wasn't wanted. For anything. They were not busy at all. I can understand that they couldn't make the key, but a little more kindness and perhaps some initiative to find out exactly what kind of key we needed would have gone a long way. Since they make keys, and are no doubt familiar with modern fob type car keys, a little engagement of the gray matter would have saved everyone a big hassle.

I first began visiting the Wimberley Ace Hardware in the late 1980's. When you first stepped in…read morethe door, it had that wonderful aroma of and old fashioned hardware store. We moved here in '93, and I've been into Ace at least once or twice a month, likely quite a bit more, since then. Sadly, the original store burned, but it was rebuilt even better. The owners are locals who understand and practice the idea of service to their community. The store is always very well stocked and tidy, and it's very easy to locate whatever it is you stopped in for. Their staff is extremely knowledgeable, courteous, and eager to help with whatever you may need. If you don't quite know what you need, someone on staff is always happy to help explain the best way to complete your project, usually faster, better, and cheaper than you first thought. You won't get that at the big box store. In 30+ years of doing business with them, I have yet to have a bad experience. These days, that's really saying something.

Ordered a Milwaukee tool online. Website said it would be available in as little as 15 minutes…read more said to wait for confirming email. 2 days later, no email. Went to store, order was in computer, but my order not ready. Multiple units of same tool in stock. Cashiers stood around dumbfounded as to what to do. Also wanted a trio of canvas tool pouches that were advertised for $18. They would not honor their price. Ended up taking my business elsewhere. It was only $250 but, still. "Ace used to be the place"! Not so much anymore. same lazy, clueless employees every other store has. This Ace has been getting consistently worse over the years imo. I'm a local but don't think I'll be back. Easier to go into San Marcos to shop. Traffic is horrible. Only thing to find in Wimberley are overpriced boutiques and "antique"'shops dabbled with $30 craft burger joints!
