Truly a hole-in-the-wall in a little shopping center on the side of the road, but the food is excellent. The best vegetarian food I've had in the area (they don't use fish sauce and the veggies taste super fresh), and the service was quick. Yay for junjira!! i definitely can back up their claim to "fresh" in their name. no indoor seating but choke outdoor! smaller establishment located on the first level parking lot below ACE and choicemart. the outdoor seating is open and nice but i usually grab a togo. they were a bit 'hit or miss' during the peak of covid/tentative reopening for food joints. but man have they got it together now! pleasant service, although it's not super duper quick, it IS quality and ya bet your booty i'll wait around a few extra mins for that. so many veggies in my tom yum, again let me emphasize FRESH. my lemongrass was superb and the broth was excellent. tip: get a side of rice or noodles. my friend had the chicken pad thai and said it was the best he's had. i'll definitely be trying it next time. bottom line- fresh, good service and a little hidden gem for us south residents craving some different spicy flavors :) thanks junjira!! read more

Somewhere between 3-4 stars but I'm feeling generous. Junjira Fresh Thai Kitchen is solid Thai food that hits the spot after traveling up and down the Kona coast. A mom-and-pop restaurant that makes your plate fresh to order, with high-quality ingredients and with LOVE. My husband's pad Thai was incredibly flavorful and fresh - whatever sauce/seasoning used made this for some of the most scrumptious pad Thai I've ever tasted. My pad see ew was good, but not quite on the same level as the pad Thai and perhaps a little more bland than typical pad see ew. They had many other delectable options for main dishes, including curries and other noodle dishes. Service was pleasant and friendly, and prices were relatively decent for the area, although portion sizes weren't particularly large. Their sodas are also $1 a can, which was a nice change from this $2-$4 business we'd been seeing at other establishments. Strangely, the lettuce wraps were just that - no shrimp or tofu, which we were surprised by. The peanut sauce that came with them was crazy good, but would skip on the wraps and save yourself six bucks. All in all, a wonderful place for a quick and not too expensive bite if you're traveling up and down the Kona coast. read more

The papaya salad I had was tasteless and cardboard-like. It was very difficult to eat. Do not come here! The two there (man and woman) were extremely difficult to deal with and senseless when the food was truly bad. They refused to address things properly and instead yelled at me and were contentious. The amount of disrespect was shocking to encounter. They lost a customer and they clearly did not care. After having to go through the whole ordeal, I would not trust them to make me another meal and strongly do not recommend Junjira. Save yourself the trouble and do not bother. I am going through my check ins, and I can't believe I haven't left a review for Junjiras yet. We eat here quite often, and we enjoy everything about it. The owners are really nice, and everyone is always super friendly when you go in. It is a small walk in place you go to order and take the food out. You can take it outside, where there are chairs to eat- or you can take it home. We love close, so always take it home. The food is always made to order, so please don't go as expect to be in and out in 5 minutes. An order of 2 dishes will take about 10-15 min. I like to call in my order and pick it up. Everything we have eaten here has been good, there's nothing I can say to stay away from. It seems Thai is the new sushi in Kona, as there are no less than a dozen Thai restaurants here. Some are good, some not as much. Junjira is up there, and even better because it's only a 3 minute drive from home. We are lucky to have such a good place up mauka, and not be forced to drive all the way to town for good Thai food. read more

We ordered quite a lot of food and it was all yummy. This is not a sit down restaurant which came as a surprise. But in all, we were happy to eat it in the comforts of our vacation rental. We enjoyed Pad Thai, Pad se Ew, Panang curry, Red curry, Basil Fried Rice, and Tom Kha soup. It was a little on the hot side, but I am sure it could be toned down. Family owned and operated. Order at counter, then minimal seating outside in strip mall walkways by parking lot. Good prices. Loved my chicken noodle soup, with thin slices of chicken and asian noodles. Did not like the veggie rolls because they were mostly filled with iceberg lettuce. The rolls should be offered with shrimp, as well. They offer fresh Thai iced tea, but all other drinks in bottle (sodas, fruit drinks, and Honest iced tea). I wish they had brewed iced tea, but the tea for the Thai iced tea was pre-sweetened. Since I was the only customer, they could have brought me my meal vice calling out my order. I guess no waiter service at all. Slight language difficulty ordering, and credit card payment by Square worked after a couple attempts. No complaint about credit card, which was nice. I've tried a few stir fry dishes and noodle dishes and really like the food here. Everything tastes so fresh and the wait isn't that long. I normally place my order then head upstairs to grab a drink at Choice Mart (mostly to kill time). By the time I come back downstairs my food is ready or at least almost ready. This restaurant prides themselves on taking their time so I'm always prepared to wait a little bit for my food, I've also never seen it very busy so I've never had to wait that long. I ordered the green chicken curry with jasmine rice - spicy. The flavor is really nice and smooth and the spice level is tolerable not too crazy like some places. Here they do not have you pick a number (of spicyness) it just spicy or not spicy. The bamboo shoots and mushrooms are nice to have in the curry along with the chicken and what I love is that they use kaffir lime leaves which is the traditional way to flavor this dish. Overall it would be nice to have more vegetables in the dish and chicken for that matter but the flavor makes up for it. The rice is fluffy and fresh every time. The portion was just enough to split in half and have a snack the next day. A styrofoam cup size. One of the downsides is that being a window service restaurant they do not have plate etc. all of the containers dishes are made to go so it seems wasteful. My husband stopped here after a day of hiking Kahuku and the food really hit the spot. Restaurant staff was friendly, there was a good selection of Thai dishes and the food was ready quick. It's not the best Thai food on the island, but the green curry and the dish my husband had were very good and fresh. I like the casual dining where you don't have to wait for a waitress and pay a tip. We ordered and our food was done in less than five minutes, then we ate at picnic tables outside. Perfect if you've been out playing all day and you're wet or dirty. The prices were reasonable, as well. I'm sure we'll eat here again next time we are in South Kona and we're hungry. read more
