I went to see Dr. Kayeum to have some blood work done and a general physical. I have very…read morerestrictive dietary guidelines and wanted to make sure my vitamin levels and overall health were within normal guidelines. From the minute she walked into the room I knew I was not going to have a good experience. She started off our interaction by telling me that I needed to be agreeable to her suggestions and guidelines because if I wasn't, she wasn't the doctor for me. She saw that I have tattoos and launched into a lecture about Hepatitis C and how studies have shown that tattoos are major factors in contracting that disease. She ended the lecture with a directive to me: "No more tattoos." I also have a pierced navel and she gave me the "piercings cause Hep C" as well lecture and, as with the tattoos, ended it by saying "No more piercings." She tried to sell me on future directive (basically a short will) paperwork and sent her nurse on a scavenger hunt for the paperwork. Thankfully, they were all out. She wanted to conduct a gynecological exam on the spot, even though that's not what I went there for, and I told her no. It was like she was trying to upsell the medical services when I specifically stated what I was there for. When I returned to the lab a couple days later for lab work, I was given a cup and told by the clinician that the doctor ordered a urine test. I never discussed anything with her that would involve her needing that so I said no. When I got the test results back from my lab work I noticed she had ordered a hepatitis test to the tune of nearly $700.00 and insurance rejected it because it was an elected lab procedure. We never discussed hepatitis tests. She ordered that strictly out thinking tattoos and piercings put somebody at high risk for that disease. I pulled the lab results off the hospital's website, as every patient could do, and after reading them and deciphering them myself, which is really easy to do even if somebody does not know what numbers mean since they provide you with ranges, I decided I wasn't interested in talking to this doctor because I felt like she ordered unnecessary testing without my agreement. To say that her office hounded the daylights out of me is an understatement. She had somebody from her office call me at least three times a week for a few weeks, and then she mailed me a Certified letter telling me I needed to call her to discuss lab results. I could very plainly see my lab results myself and there was zero reason for me to talk to her. After 20 phone calls, don't you think she'd get the hint I wasn't interested in talking to her? I lodged a complaint against her with the hospital and was told in order to get my bill accepted by the insurance company (which is Blue Cross Blue Shield, a reputable company), the doctor's office would have to reclassify the procedure and list different codes to get the insurance company to accept it. She refused. I then wrote the president of Aurora Health Care and the hospital conducted an investigation and ended up waiving all charges. So the administration at this hospital is wonderful and I have nothing but great things to say about them (even if they hadn't waived all charges, my experience with them was positive). Dr. Kayeum also has a picture of herself on the website that is at least 40 years old and that speaks volumes. This was my worst experience ever with a health care provider. Hands down.
