What a lovely theatre. We love classic movie palaces and drove about 90 minutes to see a show here…read more The size is just right... not too big, not too small. The bathrooms were nicer than I expected. I heard they recently did a renovation and I thought expanding the lobby was a great idea. We saw the ballroom area on the second floor and wow, what a cool space that is. I had a few concerns though which I thought negatively affected my experience. During intermission I couldn't figure out why there was such a hold up exiting the theatre. Yes there were a number of older patrons who walked slow or with walkers, but that is totally fine. When I exited the auditorium I saw this HUGE bottle neck of the men's bathroom line, elevator line, people exiting the theatre and people entering the theatre... and to top it all off... they put the refreshment bar right there. OMG... it was so frustrating and such a bottleneck. I'd consider moving the refreshment bar to the main lobby area which seem to be much more spacious and give more room for the auditorium doors. While I thought the bathrooms were unexpectly large and spacious but there were some concerns I had. The line to the men's bathroom went well into the lobby, but the door needed to be handled by every person in line. I think a door stop might help to prop the door open and so not everyone had to touch the door. Every single person (hopefully) is washing their hands - but with a manual on/off lever, it just stalled the sink line. And, it made a mess with everyone's wet hands handling the faucet lever and walking to the paper towel dispenser. I think they could speed up the line and make less congeston by using automatic on/off faucets. This is what the Pantages recently did and it was a game changer. Same goes with the paper towel dispenser. Everyone had to wave their hand to get the towels to dispense. Ugg, it was sooooo slow. I'd much prefer the towel dispensers which would automatically dispense a towel immediately when one is ripped off. And, worst part, with just 2 dispensers in the men's bathroom, there was one that was not working with dead batteries. OMG... that should be a priority to check before opening the house. In many ways this is just inexcusable.

Think Alice in Wonderland in real life but without Alice. You get their version of the characters, not the Disney characters, but it is still fun and great to see, especially the rabbit. This year they added a special guest, the star from Carl's Jr.. This event is massive with about 6 stages ranging from all types of music. It is a good idea to check out a set from each stage and find something new to get into. Each stage is beautiful in its own way, and each has its theme, and the pyros cater to the music. This particular insomniac event has a lot of side quests, so be sure to enter thru random doors and go down some rabbit holes; you'll find secrets, including a bazaar and special character meets. I always opt for VIP; it has its own perks, priority entrance, its own bar and food areas, private VIP air-conditioned restrooms, couches, freebies, a beauty and salon area, and a private viewing area for each stage, which is a huge plus. The highlight for VIPs is the resting spots, which we know us 30+ ravers really need. This rave is wonderful, but not everything is perfect. This rave attracts influencers and many non-plural people, which can ruin the experience for people. They can push, be rude, and even steal, and of course the location is not the greatest, and if you're parked in the wrong area, you will have your car broken into. So stay safe and only park in designated spots. Other than that, have fun.

I will say it was helpful to have free parking and have frequent shuttles available to get to the venue. The decorations and lights were pretty great, and definitely enhanced the experience. I will say navigating the festival was a bit tough, and I wish there was better signage. Although, there were maps and the app, there were times I struggled to locate a specific stage or ended up walking in the wrong direction. I liked the variety of food and drink vendors, although prices are pretty steep. $25 before tip for a cocktail is a little too high. The security at the main entrance seemed a little too relaxed, as they didn't care to check bags and just waved people through and I thought that was concerning. However, it was encouraging to see a good amount of staff around the event and that was reassuring. My friend and I opted to get VIP, and it was nice to access the VIP area and get access to slightly better restrooms. Although, the lines were long. VIP area also had some great views of the main stage but it was quite crowded. Also, it was nice to see some fireworks around midnight and take in all the lights & sights. Also, I wish there was more seating available. Lots of attendees ended up sitting and resting on the ground/grassy areas, which made it a bit challenging to navigate after different sets. The exit at the end of the night was overly crowded and difficult to get through. I was not a fan of having to walk in a huge crowd and then stand in line for 40 minutes for a shuttle to the parking area. Overall, I enjoyed my time at Beyond, but was not a fan of the venue. Possibly worth attending again mainly for the music, headliners, vibes, and various photo opps.

And with my last visit to the 2023 Nutcracker show, it was nothing but splendid! The performance center itself is part of the Riverside Community College, so depending where you will park, you might get to walk around the campus. There also could be a flight of long stairs or just a flat walk towards the main entrance. Staff here are also really helpful and nice, and I'm sure they are the same for all the different shows they have here. Inside the auditorium, it reminds me of a large lecture hall: with those wooden, collapsable chairs...just felt like being in college again! Which was cool. The stage and its lighting system is amazing and the stage will be lit up just perfectly for any show. I really enjoy coming here and who knows, maybe I'll come back for another show!

The Theater is large with 1500 seats and a professional stage that I hear is about to get some major upgrades. It's obvious that a lot of effort has gone into making this storied stage something special. Simple concessions from a local club from campus were nice and just the right price. Tickets for into the woods was just $16.00 with a $5 discount for advanced purchase, an amazing bargain! Into The woods was fantastic, clever, and massively entertaining with a superb cast. The Sets and lighting crossed between professional and campy, just perfect for such a fun show.

However, as soon as we got off the 210 freeway, we both immediately became very uncomfortable. Our navigation system lead us through what appeared to be very ghetto neighborhoods. Once we turned onto a main street, there were three hookers walking up and down the street. I was so shocked! Then we turned onto the street where Sturges is located, and there was a guy smoking what appeared to be a crack pipe on the corner of the street. The whole way from the 210 freeway to Sturges had a very eerie feeling and look to it, like a ghost town almost. Not one cop in sight! Lighting on the streets was very dim. Sturges stood out like a diamond in the rough. It is a cute, vintage-looking building from the outside. There were numerous people lined up outside, and they looked decent. Parking was filling up fast. We found a parking spot. As soon as we looked around, there were some shady-looking guys staring at the parking lot. At this point, we were no longer comfortable & couldn't wait to get the hell out of there! On the way back to the freeway, there was a man on the sidewalk appearing to be snorting something up his nose! This whole incident was like a scene from a movie of the ghetto with hookers and drug dealers walking around everywhere! We were both in disbelief! So we headed to the movie theater instead and watched Silver Linings, which we enjoyed. Chicago the Musical will be performing at the Hollywood Bowl this summer, and I will just go see it there. Had it not been in the horrible neighborhood that Sturges is located in, I'm sure it would've been a fine show to watch. What a shame.

There's even balcony seating! The sound system was clear and well balanced. My friend mentioned he would've liked it a little louder. Indeed, it was a "comfortable" volume. Our waitress was quick and friendly. She was fair, in that she told us up front they charge for water (I think it was 6 bucks). She said sometimes customers get upset about that.
