On the last day of 2023, I accidentally fell from a ladder and hurt my right leg near the ankle. The pain was so excruciating that I couldn't move. On the 2nd day, my husband took me to Dr. Jun Cao, who was a traditional chinese medicine orthopedic doctor with decades of Accupuncture experience. After brief examination, Dr. Cao told me that my tibia bone was broken and dislocated, and he showed me the protruding point that can be felt on the skin. Without hesitation, he decided to reset the broken tibia right away. With the assistance from two other people , Dr. Cao reset my dislocated broken tibia and aligned to its original position within 10 seconds. The protruding point became smooth and my leg felt better instantly. It was a great relief for me, since otherwise it usually requires a major surgery to implant a metal rod inside the bone and some metal clips around it. On the next day, I did the X-ray from urgent care. X-ray showed that besides the comminuted fractured tibia, my right fibula was also fractured, and fortunately there was no dislocation. Even though the swelling was quite severe, I believe traditional Chinese medicine can help. With Dr. Cao's professional care, I started my recovery journey. Besides Accupuncture and Tuina treatment every week, Dr. Cao provided his insightful tips on every step of the way, for example, when to take a Chinese herb to promote the blood circulation, when to soak my leg with turmeric powder, when to practice walking with cane, when to get rid of the cane, etc. Dr. Cao's knowledge and experience gave me confidence and made the recovery process smoothly. I took advantage of this week's groupon to go in for an appointment with Dr. Cao to help address some serious cramping I have been experiencing. I really like Dr. Cao! I knew immediately that he is true a professional. He is quiet and direct. There's absolutely no BS-ing through your issue - he knows exactly what he's doing. I won't know about the efficacy of the treatment until I experience symptoms again, but it seemed like he was able to quickly find the myofascial trigger points, muscle knots, and problem areas, and his ability to get the needles in without inflicting any pain seemed like someone who has received excellent training. My total visit took about 45 minutes, although I know that every problem is a little different and will require different amounts of time to properly address. I believe the visits are normally $120. After the initial verbal consultation, he did an examination of a few different areas with his hands to find problematic points. Then he had me put my head into the little hole in the bed and put several needles into strategic points on my lower back, legs, and hands. The next part was kind of funny because it took me by surprise -- he connected the needles to a machine that gave tiny little electric shocks for 20 minutes. I had no idea that was coming! After informing me that I would have electricity for 20 minutes, he told me to "rest" and left the room. Yeah right, it was such a bizarre feeling and generated all this heat... there was no way I could relax!!! All the while, some soothing classical music is piped into the rooms. Added bonus: Wait for the MIDI-style Chinese tunes when the time is up and the machine is at rest! Dr. Cao's manner of giving directions is a little bit confusing because he doesn't prompt you verbally for what he wants next. When he was taking my wrist to take my pulse, for example, I thought he was motioning for me to lie down on the table. He doesn't tell you where to sit when you come into the room, etc. Communication was the only challenge during my visit - a double barrier 1) he seems to be a man of few words 2) English is not his first language so I had to ask him to repeat himself several times. In my other experiences with acupuncture, massages, and physical therapy I am used to a certain amount of explanatory small talk from the professional, walking me through what's happening and telling me what to expect. Don't be afraid to ask questions! If you have allergies, the reception area might be problematic for you. It smelled kinda moldy when I went in today. Also, the toilet could use a good scrubbing. This review lost a star for this factor, plus some awkward moments of communication. The receptionist, Jeanne, is adorable. She is cheerful and friendly. I liked working with her to make appointments. She balances out Dr. Cao in terms of social confidence. She might try to sell you on more sessions on the way out. This review sounds like I am complaining and had a bad visit, but the opposite is true. I'm glad I went in to see Dr. Cao, and I would go back if I need additional treatments (they recommend 3-4 for each issue). Acupuncture has been something I have been wanting to try for a long time. Groupon came along with an offer for $25 which included an initial consultation, acupuncture and massage. The office is located on the corner of Saratoga and Cox in a quaint quiet doctor's office. It's nothing fancy but much nicer then I expected. I was warmly greeted by the front receptionist. What a sweetheart and she directed me to fill out a few forms about my medical history. She then showed me to my room where I was instructed to undress from the waist up and put the gown on. Dr. Cao came in pretty quickly after but when he walked in, he didn't introduce himself to me and basically just went straight for my wrists without saying anything to me. I was a bit confused because I wasn't sure what was going on but he was nice. He took my pulse and looked at my tongue and gave me some feedback that I am hoping will help me with my concerns. He then talked to me about my concerns and told me he would be doing some acupuncture to help with that. Dr. Cao is very shy which made it hard for me to feel comfortable with him at times. He had me lay down on my back and when he told me he was going to place some needles in my abdomen area, I immediately shifted my pants to sit a little lower so that he had room to put the needles in. He seemed a bit shy about this so I wasn't sure if I did the right thing. Plus it probably didn't help that I was wearing a thong. I felt bad that he had to assist in keeping my pants down for the procedure and I appreciate his modesty but when it comes to my health and getting help, I don't get shy. The acupuncture session itself was pleasant and a lot better then I had ever expected. Dr. Cao was gentle and professional and I had minimal pain. They also play some soothing music to help you relax but I didn't really feel relaxed when I was there with the traffic outside going by and the loud talk coming from the hallway. Plus they leave the lights on in the room so it's kind of hard to shut your eyes and zone out. After the acupuncture session he proceeded with a massage. It was a bit rough and hurt at times but I went with it hoping to maximize the entire experience. We talked a bit about what foods I should avoid and some massage techniques I could use at home to help with my situation. He also spoke more in detail about coming back to see him for more sessions for maximum results without him being pushy. When I left and met with the receptionist, she told me about the packages that they offer. The treatments are little higher then what I have researched so I passed for now. Also, just a warning, this is a CASH only business. Although I had a pleasant experience at this business, I don't believe it would be a place I would continue to go back to. I didn't feel a connection with the doctor and due to the sensitive nature of my concerns, I don't really feel that I would get as much out of it as I would like from Dr. Cao. He does great work and it's obvious he loves what he does and cares, but I just didn't see myself going back there in the future. Dr Cao fixed the problem of my knee. I was suffering from my knee after a surgery which did not fix my pain. After 5 times therapy from Dr Cao, I fully recovered. This is after one treatment by Dr. Cao I had just seen a surgeon about a dislocated knee. The MRI came back and the surgeon said operate. I did not agree that I could not improve the situation on my own. Luckily a few of my friends gave RAVE reviews of Dr. Cao. So I made the appointment. I had accupuncture before with great results so I thought this would work. The accupuncture treatment was good. After that I was given an INTENSE massage of the area. I was sore. It was painful but I thought it is a lot less painful then surgery. So I decided I could endure it. He would have stopped if I could not take it, mind you, but I wanted the problem solved and I would see he knew what he was doing. For a few days the area was very sore but right from the start my knee cap was more in position and I would even squat down with no pain in the joint. It is now 1 week from the 1st treatment and the knee feels great. I look forward to my next appointment. I think I can wrap up these treatments quickly and be back to my active life. This was a way better choice than surgery which has a 3 month recovery time - plus lots of pain killers for the 1st 2 weeks. Thanks Dr. Cao!! read more

Here is an update on my earlier 5* positive review: I would give a 10* rating if that was an option. A friend back East recommended the tui na method of massage/manipulation because it had helped her with recovery of lingering effects from an auto accident a few years earlier. I found Dr. Cao on a Google search. I had a back injury which had lasted 10 weeks without improvement. I made the mistake of feeling invulnerable after 6 months of great progress on The Happy Body exercise program, and in a 4 day period I moved furniture for carpet cleaning, moved 15 years of financial records boxes in the garage and moved more furniture helping prepare for a big group party. All this overloaded my back and threw it out. I was in misery, could not sit or lay down comfortably, was in pain anytime I coughed. All my usual remedies - stretching, inversion table, Chiropractic - only aggravated the condition. With Dr. Cao, I got relief from the first visit, no pain after the second visit and full recovery after 4 treatments. Dr. Cao used acupuncture, electro-stim, tui na (Chinese massage & manipulation), cupping, herbs. I am now fully recovered, back on all my exercise programs and doing great. After the second visit, I mentioned my weak "arthritic" thumb which had lost about 90% strength over a few years period. Dr. Cao said it wasn't arthritis but was a ligament problem and when he touched the area where he said the problem was, once I got down from the ceiling, I had to agree that he had found the right spot, intense pain. Well, my thumb recovered to about 90% strength and no pain in 4 visits. We are now working on tense/sore shoulders from too many years in front of a computer screen which is nearly recovered. A badly torn calf muscle has fully healed in about 4 weeks with Dr. Cao's help. he most amazing result though was that a friend of mine was scheduled for double knee replacement on a Friday. On my suggestion she went do Dr. Cao on Monday, got relief, went again Tuesday, and after that visit canceled her surgery. Now after many visits she is approaching full recovery. I have now sent 7 or more friends (including my wife) to be treated and all have had results ranging from excellent to miraculous. All are very, very pleased with their results. One very good point is that he has gotten me fully recovered on each area addressed, so there is no "keep coming back forever" aspect to the treatment. I recommend him most highly. I met Dr. Cao though a doctor I work for at El Camino Hospital in Mt. View. I was scheduled for surgery for my elbow a little over a month from the day I met him. I was in pain just holding a glass of water. Dr. Cao told me he thought he could fix my problem after examining me. I started going twice a week for treatments. One week before my surgery date I cancel led it. The elbow problem was actually 3 different problems and took several months to correct but I am so thankful I didn't need to have surgery. I experience dramatic results with just the first few treatments. The first treatment I had with Dr. Cao I also mentioned that I have had a shoulder problem for about 25 years. The problem made it impossible to sleep on my right shoulder for more than 5 minutes. He examined my shoulder and slipped a few pins into it. It was amazing.... My mom and I have been coming to here for acupuncture for more than half a year. Dr. Cao has been able improve my skin (eczema)and digestion problems and he has treated my moms chronic back pain. Apart from the effective treatment, I also enjoy the fact that he does not rush treatments and truly cares about his patients health conditions. I have wanted to try acupuncture, so when this came up on Groupon, I jumped at the chance. I wasn't sure what I would use it for, but I was excited to use it. I threw my back out somehow after the New Year, so decided to get acupuncture treatment. I called and made an appointment. Then a couple of days before the appt., a receptionist called and said they had double-booked somehow and needed to cancel/reschedule my appt. I was put out, but couldn't reschedule then. An hour before the appt. was supposed to have happened (as I was on my way somewhere else), another receptionist called and said they had to cancel my appt. because the doctor was sick. !!!!! Not only that, but when I finally rescheduled, suddenly the doctor called me and said that he understood that I had to cancel my appt. and wondered when I wanted to reschedule to. I hadn't called him, though! So I got upset and said I really was frustrated at their scheduling snafus, and I really wanted to make sure my appt. was going to go through! It did, but because of the scheduling issues and my inexperience with acupuncture, by the time I got there I was nervous about having the procedure. My back was by this time feeling much better, but my knee was now injured. But I was worried that acupuncture would worsen my knee, rather than heal it. I was concerned about this all through the treatment, in fact. Dr. Cao talked to me about my injuries and decided to treat the knee, and said he would do an "adjustment" which made me think chiropractics, of which I'm not a fan. Then, during the procedure, he pressed on my knee so hard, it really hurt. I told him so, but he just said, "Yes." And during the adjustment he moved my knee and leg in various positions that also really hurt, but he seemed unconcerned. When he inserted the needles was the only time it didn't hurt! I just felt a little prick as they went in. When it was all over, I was really worried that my knee would hurt immensely and that I would be bruised, but as soon as I put my leg down on the floor, I could tell there was a difference. The place that Dr. Cao had pressed hard, stuck the needles in, and worked on was now completely healed! I had some residual pain from muscles above the knee that he had not worked on (which is now gone, too), but from the moment I left his office, my knee felt tons better and didn't hurt!! Thanks, Dr. Cao! I'm not a fan of pain, even as a means to an end, but going to see Dr. Cao was better than living with the injury in my knee! read more

I had shooting pain in my neck and arm for a month, it was terrible I couldn't sleep. I'm not a fan of chiropractors and Dr. Cao was close to my house so figured I had nothing to lose so booked an appointment. There were no times available as it was a short holiday week of New Years but the receptionist said she would call if anything opened up. She then followed up that night and was able to get me in. She was very professional and polite which gave me a glimmer of hope. If couldn't find the office so called the receptionist who went out to the sidewalk to make sure I couldn't miss the location ( again customer service above and beyond). After filling out the requisite paperwork as a new patient I was taken right in and met with the doctor immediately. (no ridiculous wait like other docs) . He quickly identified the problem areas and administered 20 minutes of accupunture. He followed this with a massage with various liniments and tools which I couldn't see but felt good. At the end he said move your arm and see how it feels and all the pain was gone. It has been better ever since I went. I'd highly recommend if you have a stiff neck and associated pain. read more
