(Middlegate has a nice sleazy vibe but probably not the best choice for kids) Cold Springs Station has an RV park, a couple of motel rooms and I've never stayed there so can't comment except to say I know people who stay there and always return. The cafe has become an occasional meeting place for a state wide organization...pretty much midway on 50. I got a BLT and upgraded to onion rings...just cause theit's are so good. I've also had breakfasts there...it's old fadhion roadside food. Well done, friendly folks. They have a full bar which is pretty inviting but I always have the drive home ahead of me so I don't have alcohol. They have a nice little gift shop, everyone should buy a T-Shirt! The restrooms are always clean...but please be nice to their system...they are far from services! The Pony Express ran thru here in 1860-61 and there are station ruins about a half mile to the west. I can imagine someone driving 50 and thinking "we'll eat in Austin or Eureka"...sure get your fuel in those town, wander main street, but stop and eat at CSS, it's a much better choice! Sorry I forgot to get pictures!

We chose the Inn because it is pet friendly, but as it turns out, it is also quite a nice diamond in the (rural) rough of the Hwy 50 Nevada desert route. A couple of minor critiques: while the bathroom wasn't dirty, the floor and walls could use a good deep scrub to freshen things up. Also, the continental breakfast was pretty limited--just a make-your-own waffle station and some cereal. It would be nice to see a bit more variety. This was a great decision. We got one of the suites which was one of the most unique hotel rooms I've ever stayed in complete with 19th century French books and turn of the 20th century charm. Our suite was unique with a smallish living room connecting to an old timey bedroom and bathroom. Everything was clean and very comfortable. I really liked the Belvada themed shampoo and soap. I don't usually sleep well in hotels but the hotel bed here was great. We also had a nice view down onto the street and the Mizpah sister property to the Belvada. There was a coffee machine, refrigerator and microwave. We really enjoyed our evening in this room and it was perfect for what we were looking for. The location was excellent with a couple different places to get food including an A&W and a casino restaurant just across the street. There's also several shops and amenities within a block or two. Really helpful for travellers. There's also a really neat casino with all sorts of things like written checks from different celebrities and a neat stuffed bear over there. Tonopah is one of the more unique places I've ever been with the vibrant history of the late 19th and early 20th century still echoing loudly in that town. The locals were friendly. Probably one of the best places to stop in the vast, expansive and gorgeous Nevada desert.
