Would you consider the hotel area to be in a safe area and is there a good place to park your car? Also, is there much road noise from the highway?

Historic hotel with old charm [Tonopah NV]…read more After passing through the town of Tonopah several times on our way to Las Vegas we finally booked a room at the Mizpah Hotel for an overnight stay. Last year I had a chance to walk around the different floors and housekeeping was nice enough to show me the Lady In Red room on the 5th floor, Room #502. My original review has a more detailed account of my experience where at that time I did a solo self-guided tour while hubby waited downstairs in the huge sitting area. This time he came upstairs with me. He said he felt chills and smelled perfume in the air. As for me -- nothing. Smelled like air freshener to me. The Lady in Red is said to be a kindhearted presence, watching over the hotel as if still bound by her past profession. We were assigned a room on the 3rd Floor, supposedly this is the floor where heavy footsteps of children running up and down the halls could be heard. Last year during my visit I did see two children roaming around the floors (one in his early teen and the other younger), it was in mid afternoon after guest checkout so only housekeeping were in the building. It looked like they were helping with the housekeeping because I heard them mention something about a trash bag. This time I saw two kids again when we were on the 3rd floor. The older one told me that "the hotel was haunted" and started giggling as both ran down the stairs. I didn't think anything of it because in both experiences they looked very real LoL! I even asked the desk clerk if there were kids checked in w/ their parents and I was assured "yes" there were families staying that evening. Every time we meet people they would give us a fist bump to make sure we were real ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ At the registration counter there is a large book where guests can note down any paranormal experiences they've encountered during their stay. Wished I had time to read some of them. We did inquire about a ghost tour but we had to book 48 hours in advance so unfortunately we weren't able to do that. Mizpah Hotel is a historic landmark that dates back to 1907, built during the height of the silver mining boom, its name taken from the nearby Mizpah Mine that delivered the first silver lode. I did not feel any presence. Our room was cozy with vintage decor and I slept like a baby not feeling a single funky paranormal activity. Checked off my bucket list. Review #3522 updated

Nothing special besides a creepy old run down, unkept, uncleaned, dirty hotel, hotel rooms from the 1900's Tonopah with a rude, vulgar, unprofessional #unkept woman dressed like she just got done with a 36hr OTR drive in a semi truck, with a matching vulgar mouth that sound worse then a mouth of a sailor. That woman talked so much trash about previous hotel guest who had issues with the broken down rooms and hotel, she stated the staff has a certain "f*** off" statement that she tells anyone who complaints (quoting that employee). We stopped and stayed in the "Red Lady Room". The things scary about this room were the fiberglass tub (they had fiberglass tubs in the 1900's??? ) that DIDNOT drain at all, the BROKEN furniture and single wooden chair, the BROKEN wooden blinds in the bathroom, the DARK YELLOW stained sheets and stained comforter, dirty cracked windows being held open with pieces of sticks, broken air condition. Dont forget you have to step into the tub to close the bathroom door to get to the potty.. Did I mention the elevator that takes the doors 3 minutes to close that was last inspected in 1911 that has names scratched into the walls and doors?? Reno Gazette did an article on 11-11-2000 How Sen. Pittman died on 11-10-1940 after winning the election and oldwivestales state his body was kept on ice, another 'story' they are passing as facts . Want to see where the MizPah Hotel is letting its stories and fibs from.... Google them, read the articles, do your homework before stepping into that traffic jam. You want to know what else you will experience here?? When someone else in ANOTHER ROOM (anywhere on the same floor) uses the #bathroom. The smells fill the hallways, stairs, corridors and your room. They try and mask the odor and mildew by putting plug-in's in every corner of each floor. Ghost: The hotel has a 3 ring binder of "hand written" experiences over 10-15 years old (same time the WSJ was posted) with pages stuck together, all in similar had writing that other people have heard, seen #orbs with #flashes in the mirrors (dust particles because the #ventilation is so dirty and old) and heard kids playing the hallway.. you can hear everyone in the hallway, looking around trying door knows . Nothing haunted about this place but the yellow stains on the bed sheets in the room your staying in. The hotel is run down with furniture that has been donated from the local families or stuff they 'found' in the trash on the side road (quoting the bartender down stairs) where we got dinner. The only ghost you'll see here are the ones in your head when leaving w/o ur $$$ and bad night sleep. Actually stop and look at the decoration, the pictures and furniture. Very few pieces are even related to the hotel, to "so called" incidents that "so called, took place" at the hotel - that you cannot find on paper anywhere. Some 'random' lady in red was "maybe" murdered on the 5th floor.. somewhere there - as the 'story' goes.. The murder of a 'political figure' kept in a bathtub of ice? Look at the newspaper article posted in their lobby thats from the "Wall Street Journal" dated 07-31-2015, stating "Ghost Town: Tonopah "Hopes to Become a Tourist Haunt". Hold on, hopes... and the actual WSJ states its a "upsell to help the town". Oh and for some weird reason, the title on the 'printed newspaper' in the frame vs the actual website article IS DIFFERENT! This is a old hotel that they don't fix broken things. Repair something, fix the things there that are either broken or missing parts. You can actually repair things and keep the fake historic haunted theme still. *THIS IS MY FIRST HAND PERSONAL OPINION FROM MY EXPERIENCE WHEN MY FAMILY STAYED AT THE MIZPAH HOTEL IN 2025

This was a great decision. We got one of the suites which was one of the most unique hotel rooms I've ever stayed in complete with 19th century French books and turn of the 20th century charm. Our suite was unique with a smallish living room connecting to an old timey bedroom and bathroom. Everything was clean and very comfortable. I really liked the Belvada themed shampoo and soap. I don't usually sleep well in hotels but the hotel bed here was great. We also had a nice view down onto the street and the Mizpah sister property to the Belvada. There was a coffee machine, refrigerator and microwave. We really enjoyed our evening in this room and it was perfect for what we were looking for. The location was excellent with a couple different places to get food including an A&W and a casino restaurant just across the street. There's also several shops and amenities within a block or two. Really helpful for travellers. There's also a really neat casino with all sorts of things like written checks from different celebrities and a neat stuffed bear over there. Tonopah is one of the more unique places I've ever been with the vibrant history of the late 19th and early 20th century still echoing loudly in that town. The locals were friendly. Probably one of the best places to stop in the vast, expansive and gorgeous Nevada desert.

This motel has been featured on paranormal shows and in books as being "haunted". It has that creepy "Devils Rejects" or "The Hills Have Eyes" vibes since you are in a remote area and feels like a group of sketchy locals might be waiting for darkness to strike. When we first arrived there was construction going on in the parking lot that went on until 10pm. That was really annoying. I originally booked room #107 which is one of the most paranormal rooms and basically one of the only reasons I booked months in advance to get it. When I arrived the gentleman at the desk said he was sorry but there was an issue with room #107 and it could not be rented to me. I said told him that was disappointing since I booked this months out. I asked what was wrong with the room. He said there was a leak and could not be rented out. I opted for the 2nd most paranormal room which was #108 (The IT room). The manager gave us a few keys and said check a few rooms out since they were all empty but a couple. I was there for the paranormal accounts so stuck with #108. We took a self tour of the tiny museum. I did enjoy that and bought some merch. The museum had the vibes I was looking for. Creepy and kind clown dolls that have been donated over time. The museum is free and you can make a donation if you wish. I would recommend stopping by the museum. Once we got into the room we noticed cockroach traps in the corners and In the closet. Clearly there was is roach problem at this motel. The room just made me feel itchy and gross. I got no spooky vibes at all, no EMF activity in the room. I pulled out my blacklight and there were gross stains all over the wall, bed, and the toilet was unbearable. Me and my bro decided to sit in the parking lot at 9pm and walk the cemetery in the dark when nobody was there. As we walked outside to tour the cemetery we noticed the room light was on in room #107 and the curtain was cracked. We could see two people on the bed. I was pissed because the manager lied to me and said the room could not be rented out due to a leak, yet two people had checked into it. They probably offered to pay him more and he gave it to them. I did enjoy walking the cemetery and reading about each occupant. We paid our respects and went back to the room. After seeing how disgusting the room was we decided to check out at 10pm. We told the manager the room was too gross and could not stay the night especially with signs of a bug infestation. The manager said he knows the rooms aren't nice and he is sorry. They will not refund you if you choose to leave. They will only refund you if there is a mechanical issue or plumbing issue. I also think that is not good business. We packed our things back in the car and left for another hotel 5 minutes away. It was called the Belvada and was awesome. Also has a haunted past. 1906 Victorian style hotel. I would NOT recommend staying at the Clown Motel. It is worth seeing to go to the museum and cemetery but that's it. Avoid the rooms. I don't believe the rooms are haunted and it's a gimmick to get people to stay in these rundown rooms. I think the reviews where people say they could not stay the night wasn't because of ghosts but because of cockroaches. They need to spend less money on the outside decor and put more money into renovating the rooms. I was very disappointed and hands down worst motel I've ever stayed in!

The room was spotless during my standard wipe down (Except one are noted below). The common areas were kept clean at last to my eye. So why 3 stars? The issue was with the general worn down condition of the room and part of the hotel. 1) Rear entrance. The scanner does not work. Some of the time the door was propped open with a rock. Arriving late as I did meant walking around the hotel with my gear. Doors being propped with a rock is not reassuring from a security standpoint 2) The carpet. It was puckering up in multiple areas. Enough so that in the middle of the night my socks caught it twice and I tripped both times 3) Grease or mold spot on shower curtain. Either way gross I will stay there again because the staff was so on point. I hope that my room was not representative of the others

It's been interesting to read reviews of others who have given the place much higher marks. However, there is a realization here that everyone has a different level of standards. Overall, we want a place that's clean and put together. We did not feel that was the case here. In other words, I could probably say it was about the worst hotel room I ever paid for. To begin with tissues from the previous guest were still behind the bed table. We left them there. The mattress spring covers weren't just dirty. It was stained and filthy. It was obvious with the condition of the way the bed was made and cords that there was no proper training on anything. There was a refrigerator in the room that when opened the ice had such a build up of ice you knew it had never been checked or cleaned. Moving down to the restaurant ..... the ketchup when turned upside down "clumped" to opening and didn't slide like fresh ketchup. The bottles of other toppings appeared to have also been there a mighty long time without being freshened up. Okay .. what did we order? We ordered two hot fudge sundaes. The hot fudge was lukewarm and clumped... After all, what did we expect? The following morning when we stopped by "Registraiton" to drop the keys off, the clerk was sound asleep in his chair. Evidently, he'd been there a bit as other keys were laying on the counter that had also been cropped off. He did look at me and grunt and then went back to sleep.
