A year ago I would have given this restaurant 5 stars: it has been one of our favourites for20+…read moreyears. However, after going there for lunch on Thursday I have downgraded it to three stars. The reasons for this are: The menus are presented on an A4 sheet of green paper, food on one side and wine on the other. Not the class of presentation we are used to here. The fish was the only menu item listed as GF; not every gluten intolerant person wants fish for lunch. We were specifically asked up front if we had any special dietary requirements but even so we were not told of any other GF alternatives. The home-made chorizo was slightly too dry and lacking in flavour. A sauce or relish was definitely required here. My wife had the pork belly. The waitress asked if she wanted it entrée or main size and said the main had 5 pieces of pork compared to 3 on the entrée. When the bill came we were staggered to see that to increase a $23 entrée to main was charged at an additional $28! I do not know how they can justify this. On the plus side the caramelised onion and Brie bruschetta was absolutely delicious and the bread roll was also very good, even though it was late in being served (we were beginning to think the butter dish was for decoration). Sorry Skillogalee, but you are no longer one of our 'must visit' establishments.

Finally made it here! A slight detour on the Riesling cycle trail but worth it! Set in a bush…read moresetting, even if you don't get a seat on the verandah this place is great. Everything we had was perfect. Great wine and food, end of story.

Yep. Yep. Yep. It ticks all the boxes. Amazing views. Great food and wine. And the location is…read morePerfect. We have decided to get s houseboat and moor it here soon. We found this place by accident while my husband was paddling the Murray. It's a gorgeous green winery right on the river. You can do wine tastings, eat their wood fired pizzas, local platters, or sip on one of their signature sangrias which I loved. True grit is also here in May. It's a secret I didn't want to let out

What a cool concept! Caudo Vineyard is located on the Waikerie side of Cadell, along the Murray…read moreRiver. Accessible via road or river, it's the perfect place to visit whilst spending your holidays along the Murray. Caudo's signature drop is their premade Sangria, you may recognise the sugar skull logo. They have both red and white on offer. We ordered a jug of the red ($18), and to be honest it kind of tasted like a spicy moscato. Not an insult, but not necessarily traditional. It's certainly sweet, and you can taste the orange notes... although that may be the hunk of orange they put with the ice in the jug. I do wish they would fill the glasses with ice and diced fruit. I think it would really bring out the flavours. You can buy 4 packs, cartons and large bottles of the Sangria to take away. A 4 pack will set you back $20. We got a pack to play with when we get home. There are other wines on offer too, as well as Barossa Valley cider and Caudo's Hogwash Bend Lager. Which was quite a refreshing crowd-pleasing lager. Very good for a hot day. Finally, there is quite a tasty little menu on offer. The local antipasto platter sounds like a delightful pairing with sangria on a summer day. The self cook BBQ plate looked amazing too! Annnndd pizza. All the deliciousness!! Overall, I highly recommend people pop into Caudo if they're in the region. I'll definitely head back next holidays... I'm keen to try a sangria cocktail!!

When it's busy, you'll need to book a sitting - either early or late (go for late because you have no set time to be out by and will be able to drink to your hearts content!) The veg and salad bar is fairly solid - not the most amazing, but not terrible either! Most recently i ordered a chicken snitty kilpatrick - it was huge and delicious! Prices are good too. Another handy thing to know is that you can take away drinks to take home from the front bar (as there is no separate bottle shop) - and the prices are pretty reasonable considering you're out in the country side!

There is either a self serve veggie or salad bar depending on the time of the year. The menu caters for all tastes ranging from schnitzels the size of a dinner plate including a squid schnitzel to awesome steaks, seafood and more. To top it off you can sit out the front and have a beer or two and admire an amazing view of Mt Remarkable. Situated in the beautiful town of Melrose it is a must for a stop over on your way to explore the Upper Flinders Ranges with multiple walking tracks and Mountain Bike tracks suitable for all standards to explore. So all that said and done get yourself into Mt Remarkable Hotel for a meal and drink. While you are there check out the ceiling. Over the year's it has had many comment's written on it!
