My son's and Johnny's first night together.

Julia's Jungle adopted us a DYING KITTEN then a week later, upon DIAGNOSIS OF CANCER, said we'd have to pay them a surrender fee to take him back. My son's care team recommended he get an emotional support animal so we began looking and he adopted a five month old kitten from Julia's Jungle. Just over a week later, after two calls requesting the Dr. see him and being told once it was unnecessary (we were prescribed meds and asked to pick them up without an exam) and once that it would be another four days before he'd be seen, HE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH LYMPHOMA at the emergency animal clinic where we took him because he was so obviously sick and getting worse. The Dr. said every lymph node in his body is swollen, lymphocytes are near 20,000, he never should have been released for adoption, likely only has a couple months to live, and she advised us to take him back to the shelter. I called Julia's to tell them what the vet said and the woman on the phone quickly said, "If you bring him back you'll need to pay a $25 surrender fee." I was shocked at the uncaring way she spoke, she didn't ask about the kitten or my son, absolutely NO compassion, NO empathy, NO apology. I asked her if she was seriously telling me we paid $100 to adopt a kitten that's dying, paid his emergency vet bills, and now the only thing she has to say is we need to pay them more money if we bring him back? Her answer was simply, "That's our policy" and the best line of all, "You waited too long." Eight days which included two requests and two denials for the Dr. to see him. When I asked for the manager's name she said they don't talk to customers on the phone and I could come in at 7:30am to speak to someone. I won't say don't adopt here, I understand things can be missed and his poor health was likely, at least in part, incorrectly attributed to an upper respiratory infection circulating in the kennels, but I will say the way they handled the situation, the complete lack of caring and compassion, is absolutely unacceptable. We didn't change our mind or decide he wasn't a good fit for my son, THEY ADOPTED OUT A SICK AND DYING ANIMAL and it was never about the money. I didn't demand the adoption fee back or even mention money, we hadn't even decided what to do when just days after Christmas we learned the kitten my son fell in love with was dying. We didn't take the kitten back, we're getting him stabilizing medical treatment, we'll love him, and give him the very best life we can during the time he has left, and we'll hopefully be able to arrange home euthanization when the time comes. But I hope the business owner reads this review and coaches their employees about how to handle these difficult circumstances so no one is ever again treated with such a lack of compassion and in such an heartless, uncaring way. For all their talk of our animals are family, if you can't keep them for any reason they need to come back here, etc., their actions say they're more interested in collecting $25 than caring about the life of an innocent kitten or the emotional wreckage my son is now enduring.

What a great place! The staff are helpful, kind and very competent. Dolly is amazing! Their location is pretty easy to find, especially with tips from the receptionist. We took our long-haired tabby cat in for a "lions cut" and Dolly did a great job. Thanks to everyone at Julia's Jungle!

I've been on the prowl to get a kitten for 8 months now. I've been to several shelters (Boise, Moscow, Pullman, Cda) and Julia's Jungle is by far SUPREME!! The staff has a laid back environment. I was able to meet and play in the cat room for almost an hour, undisturbed, no pressure. After falling in love with one kitten in particular, I sighed thinking, "ok here comes a grueling application process..." Not the case. Not only was the adoption process pleasant, but my lil guy came microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, and healthy! $75 for adoption is a heck of a deal. I live in CdA, and will be making the trip to their vet clinic. Service is key, this place nailed it. We love Julia's! Love, Josie and lil Ernie

What can I say but clean and cheap! Only cost $10.00 to brush out, wash, and blow dry our pup. They supplied EVERYTHING! Brushes, towels, wash cloths, 6 different kinds of shampoo even conditioner, ear cleaner, Cotten balls, perfume, blow dryer, & treats! Best place we've found in Spokane to "do it yourself" dog bath!

All clean! I love the complimentary bandanas!

I just moved over from Seattle and loved the self-serve dog bath I went to over there. I was excited to find Julia's Jungle in the Valley. I was very impressed with the place! It was such a good deal! Only $10 and they supply everything that you may need. A wide variety of shampoo (with descriptions for each), brushes, towels, ear cleaner & cotton balls, very nice aprons and dryers. They also have a punch card (after 6 you get one FREE!) The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because the stairs to get to the tub were very steep and difficult for my large dog. It would also be nice if there was a place to put my purse so I didn't have to worry about it being on the floor and possibly getting wet. Overall, a fantastic place! I will be taking my dog back for sure!

They just remodeled the front area and WOW it was stunning, such a welcoming feeling when you walk in. I just adopted my dog and this was his first grooming appointment so we were both a little nervous, the ladies working both reception and the amazing groomer herself acting like it was no big deal my 70lb mastiff has separation issues! It was so comforting and he honestly didn't even notice I left. They had so many options as far as packages, al a Carte, etc. so we were able to customize a VERY affordable package so my handsome man got every need catered to. When picking him up I got a report of him being a great boy and I was completely at ease. I would recommend the amazing staff at Paradise for your grooming or even day care needs! We'll be back in 6 weeks!

That said, after spending time at Updawg for daycare and overnight boarding, we've seen a complete turnaround in her behavior. What's incredible is that this transformation didn't come from formal training sessions--we simply boarded her while traveling. Her improvement is 100% due to the environment and care she's received at Updawg. While we'll always be mindful (she's still an animal, after all), I now have peace of mind knowing she can interact with other dogs. That's something I never thought I'd be able to say. Another huge win: nail trims. She used to need a "doggy chill pill" just to get through them, but thanks to the gentle and loving approach from the Updawg staff, sedation is no longer needed. That's a game-changer for her and for us. The genuine love and excitement the team shows every time we drop her off or pick her up makes it easy to recommend Updawg so highly. I can travel knowing she's not just being watched--she's being loved, cared for, and having fun. Thank you to everyone at Updawg Pet Hotel & Daycare. You've made such a difference for our family!

Brittany Katterfeld took advantage of an elderly, vulnerable woman who lives alone by manipulating her into letting go of her puppy for supposedly an inboarding 3-week training. She took my mother's credit card number and charged 1/2 of the $3000.00 fee. Brittany offered no contract or paperwork to sign. My mother was very upset after Brittany left driving off with my mother's dog. The next two days involved my sister and I intervening to help my mother get her dog back as this was not what she wanted nor did she ever intend to spend that kind of money as she is on a limited income. Brittany agreed to meet us after two days as we explained the situation over the phone. She had been cooperative and met us at a parking lot so we could get the dog back; she even mentioned a refund. However, since that time she has been avoiding my mother's phone calls and texts. Interestingly, Brittany was very quick to answer while obtaining my mother's business. Now she avoids all contact and is a thief for keeping all of the $1500.00. Technically my mother only owes 3 nights of boarding and training and is willing to give well over the amount due for the trouble and confusion. What poor business, horrible work ethic and decency. Thumbs DOWN.

I wanted a trainer that not only used multiple training techniques and tools, but also was actively working her own dogs as well. At ~65# each it's very difficult to handle my dogs when they start going after each other. It was even more disheartening when my deaf 3yo pittie mix bit a friend. Both dogs are insecure and needed more direction and less opportunity to fail. The moment I contacted Brittany, she immediately made me feel that all hope wasn't lost and this could get better. We set up an appointment and she came in ready to make miracles happen! My dogs were also ready...they did not want to have anything to do with her. They were growling, lunging, snapping, and just behaving badly. Brittany stayed calm and reassured us that she wanted to see the naughtiness so that she could better help us. We were so embarrassed and nervous. She handled our dogs with care and control. By the end of our session our dogs were calm and obeying not only her, but us as well. She left giving us homework and we are so excited to start this process. I'm eager to see our dogs transform into the companions we know they can be. I would recommend her to anyone and everyone that had dogs.

My dog, Koa, was boarded at this facility on two occasions: July 3-5 and July 10-14. I cannot determine during which stay he became ill. When I picked him up on July 14, he was noticeably lethargic and not acting like himself. Later that evening, his condition declined rapidly. He became disoriented, was unable to stand to go outside, and his temperature measured 106°F. He was rushed to an emergency veterinary clinic and admitted immediately. Over the next several days, Koa's condition was described as critical. His white blood cell count was dangerously low, he continued to spike high fevers despite continuous fluids and cooling measures, and he required round-the-clock hospitalization. Multiple veterinary teams repeatedly prepared me for the possibility that he might not survive. I was told more than once that his prognosis was very guarded and that we needed to be prepared for the worst. He underwent extensive diagnostic testing, including imaging and a bone marrow biopsy, and ultimately required transfer to Washington State University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital for ICU-level and internal medicine care. He remained hospitalized for nearly a week. The drive to WSU was approximately an hour and a half each way, and I traveled whenever possible just to see him during limited visiting hours, not knowing if each visit might be my last. Despite exhaustive testing, no definitive source of illness was identified. Koa ultimately survived due to aggressive medical intervention, including prolonged steroid therapy and the advanced care provided by the critical care and internal medicine teams at Washington State University. His total medical expenses exceeded $12,000. The owner of the boarding facility was contacted on the morning of July 15 by my boyfriend to inform her of the situation and to ask whether any other dogs had been ill during that timeframe, as this information could have assisted with veterinary diagnostics. Although I am the legal owner of the dog and the individual listed on all veterinary and boarding paperwork, the facility owner never contacted me directly by phone or email. I would have expected direct communication with the registered owner during a medical emergency of this severity. To this day, she has never reached out to me personally. Koa survived, but his recovery was long and difficult. He required months of steroid therapy with significant side effects, including excessive thirst, increased urination, and loss of bladder control--none of which he had experienced previously. Initial attempts to taper him off steroids resulted in serious complications requiring further medical intervention. He ultimately required additional long-term medication and ongoing veterinary monitoring. The emotional distress of nearly losing a family member after trusting a facility to care for him is something I would not wish on anyone. Beyond the medical crisis itself, the lack of direct communication with me as the registered owner was particularly difficult. I am not making claims of legal fault or causation. I am sharing my experience. Pets are family, and facilities entrusted with their care carry a significant responsibility. I strongly encourage anyone considering boarding here to ask detailed questions about illness monitoring, emergency response procedures, and communication expectations. I sincerely hope others take the time to think carefully before entrusting their animals to this boarding facility.
