Because the property was a floating home, holding an on-site estate sale was not possible, and with the pending sale we did not have time for a traditional liquidation process. We initially found an estate company that would have been ideal, but they ultimately determined that the job was beyond their scope. We then contacted Sorted Estates, and the experience was exceptional. Because we were working remotely, all coordination had to be done through photographs. We sent as many images as possible and explained that our goal was to have the floating home completely cleared. They provided an estimate based on that information and followed through exactly as promised. On the scheduled day, they arrived with two trucks and a five-person crew. By the end of the day, the home was entirely empty, with two full truckloads delivered to donation sites. Communication throughout the process was clear, responsive, and professional. Given the constraints and complexity of the situation, their performance was genuinely impressive.

Prompt replies, thoughtful questions and answers, caring about our feelings towards all the items in the house and the house itself, patience with my sisters and I, their thoroughness in going through everything (and finding hidden treasures we had overlooked), and the timely manner in which they were able to clear the house for us - these women are amazing at getting the job done. Yes...there is cost involved, and for us, it was totally worth every penny because it allowed us time to process and grieve the passing of our mother. I highly recommend Sorted Estates!

Unfortunately, I'm compelled to submit my first-ever negative Yelp review based on an extremely…read moredisappointing experience with Unexpected Treasures. Doing this doesn't give me pleasure, but I hope to prevent other families from experiencing the heartbreak that my sister and I have. I'll save you the excruciating details and my long, precise list of how this company misrepresented its services and over-promised its results. In summary, I'll simply say "buyer beware." This IS NOT a group that endeavors to find buyers for fine furnishings and antiques. They will go to minimum effort to sell or place your things. Above all, this is a LIQUIDATION company. Unexpected Treasures' stated goal is to return your house to you absolutely clear of everything. They do that. Just expect to pay plenty for this service, regardless of what you believe to be the consignment store value of the contents. If you need someone to clear tons of things from your house (or the home of a deceased loved one) without concern for selling finer things to antique dealers, collectors, consignment stores, etc., then you should consider Unexpected Treasures. Bottom line: we paid thousands for the "privilege" of having many fine pieces given to charity, as well as having the junkier stuff and "unsaleable furniture" hauled off. Had I known their approach, I would have chosen to keep many of the items or take them to consignment myself. They didn't even mention that option, and I was lead to believe they had eager buyers just waiting in the wings. Their accounting is not transparent so you won't have a clear idea of what was sold. They only itemize items that sell for greater than $100. Sure, we have thousands worth of donation receipts from thrift stores, but that wasn't our goal. My final advice: please don't make a decision on Unexpected Treasures or any "estate sale" company without truly recognizing what you're getting. You could either be terribly disappointed or super grateful, depending on your personal goal. In our case, we were grieving and had a timetable to keep to prepare the house to sell. I wish I could do it all over again because I definitely would've gone to the trouble of placing the better things at a good consignment store, if only to avoid the regret I'll feel for many years to come.

I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking to clear out a house of its contents in a…read morecomplete and thorough fashion. The reality of today's "antiques" market was brought home to me by Judy in our first conversation. I know nothing about it and she informed me first about how pianos have become valueless - and I mean haul it away to the dumps! I then tried putting my mother's Steinway grand piano on ebay and learned how right she was. It sat on there for months until I cut the price to next to nothing and sold it to a man in China, who had it disassembled, crated and shipped to him. I was just lucky that Steinway is a big name in China. Next she told me how old, dark wood antique furniture no longer sells as it is not the style that younger people like. That was also proven true in the sale she conducted for us. But we had great success in her selling lots of other stuff, which paid for her colleague's labor, and for her extensive knowledge of sources, contacts, and charities to whom things could be sold or donated. The house is now clear and her firm accomplished what we could never have done in such a short amount of time. It's tough to accept how the world has changed and things that formerly had value now don't, but Judy pulled no punches in telling us the truth and for that we thank her.

This is because only the one lady, who I believe is the owner, is taking both the money AND pricing out the MANY items which are left unmarked and not priced. No other worker will/can give you a price. So be prepared to spend at least an hour in line up to the cashier, then be prepared for her to look something up online and price it at near market. Even worse, if you find something at a good price and it was marked, be prepared for her to accuse you of swapping the price tag and raising the price on the spot. She also prices based on what you look like so be aware of that when you wait in line for a price. another reason why it takes so long is they will hand write out and record each item on a note pad and the price - not that they give you a receipt or anything. Then they will add it up for tax, manually on a calculator, so watch for mistakes. They must pay a good amount to real estate agents to get referred since they get a lot of estates in high end neighborhoods. But I avoid them like the plague whenever I see an estate listed by them since they really run them so badly. Not enjoyable at all. Thankfully I only go for fun and don't make any sort of living going garage sale hunting. It really is a painful experience. Should have taken a clue when during the first sale held by them that I went too, another person who showed up started cursing in line - he said this company had changed their name from a few years back and he wouldn't have come had he know it was run by her. The estate owners probably lose out a lot of sales from buyers who don't show up, like me. wouldn't be surprised if they most likely will do another name change in a few years.

I went to the estate sale on Glen Dr in San Leandro last week. It would have given them a five star but as I was checking out, I noticed someone at the tables on the opposite side of me, looking at two loppers. I mentioned that I didn't notice the loppers earlier to the cashier (who was super sweet). She turned around to look at the loppers, then asked her colleague, who was stationed at the jewelry, if the loppers were on hold for someone. Instead of hearing what she was saying, he thought it was appropriate to get angry at the customer who was looking at them. He was so angry that he must have forgotten how to be a human, because basically just yelled at the customer, saying "No!" and huffed as he furiously waved to where I was standing, indicating that the customer should be on the side where I was standing. Did he think the customer couldn't speak English? Is that why he stopped using his words and just waved his hands? From a customers perspective, this was wildly off putting. Even my partner and his mom and the lady who checked me out were shocked.
