Specifically making sure that children who are removed from their homes have everything they need for the first 48 hours after placement, and then providing ongoing support to foster families in other ways. One of their big drives is during Christmas and making sure that every foster child has presents waiting for them under the tree, and if you stop and think what Christmas presents for 16,000 children look like you might realize why they need hundreds of volunteers for 3 weeks of the year! I've only volunteered during the last few Christmas seasons but if you want to give back to an organization that really strives to put the needs of some of the most vulnerable children in our city first, BEAR is an easy choice. They have online and in-person options for support, and they need volunteers and donors to keep them afloat every year- they are not funded by taxes. The people running the place are friendly, helpful, and you can tell they really care about kids. Definitely recommend checking them out if you're looking for a way to give back to your community!

She also waited until we were basically out of the front door to ask if we had any questions for her. We left feeling like our son would just be another face in the crowd rather than a valued student. Maybe the new campus will resolve some of the cramped/crowded feel, but I still have issues with the general way we felt unvalued as potential parents of a student.

They also provide straightforward communications when there have been a number of cases of the flu or other viruses, and I do I feel like Priciprin does everything within their control to prevent the spread of germs. - Orientation - Like most new moms, I had a lot of anxiety about going back to work. It helped that Principrin provided a thorough packet of information and met with us individually to discuss our son's transition prior to his start date, and within a short period of time I felt very comfortable leaving him there. My son had issues with bottle refusal starting out, and they were very patient with us as we worked through it. - Staff - It's obvious that the women who work here really care about the kids. I'm fairly certain the front desk receptionist knows every child by name and 99% of the kids I've seen at pick up are in a great mood coming out. The teachers here really go above and beyond to find different activities and set up cute & creative photo shoots. - Efficiency - This is a very large facility and can be hectic since most parents drop off and pick up their kids around the same time. Generally they do an excellent job of managing the peak times and I rarely have to wait more a few minutes or so for someone to take my baby back to his classroom. The check-in and out process is done via QR code and seems secure. - Pricing - The monthly rates here are a little higher than the other facilities that we checked out in the Heights, but considering the size of the facility and level of care I feel like they are justified. 10/10 - 100% recommend!

Houston and the rest of the country could use more places like The Ronald McDonald House. I…read morerecently went on a tour of the facility as a potential volunteer and I was blown away by what they do. The Ronald McDonald House is an extremely low cost ($25/day) facility for families of pediatric patients undergoing treatment in the Texas Medical Center. The facility provides housing to patients who are undergoing treatment at several hospital including MD Anderson, Texas Children's, Memorial Hermann, etc... Priority housing is given to patients undergoing cancer treatment, but many different families stay here. This is so much more than a long term hotel. There are community rooms, computer access, playrooms, outdoor playgrounds, community kitchens, laundry facilities, and more! They even have special kitchens for transplant patients to store their food. Most days of the week, volunteers bring and serve food to families staying here. Best part of the whole place? The house dog, Mogie. Mogie was running around, playing with kids, and was putting a smile on everyone's face. Pet therapy is so important for patients and their families. Mogie was so cute, I wanted to scoop him up and bring him home with me! For $175 a week, a family can stay here, get free shuttle service to/from hospitals, and enjoy many free catered meals. I can't imagine how important a facility like this is when you are from out of town and your family is devastated by a life threatening medical diagnosis. I can't wait to start volunteering here! Chinese Community Center 中國文化服務中心 offers a wide variety of services, festival is only a small segment. This building houses many non-profit organizations and Chinese-language schools. For public, you must enter from the front door and check in at the receptionist. The gymnasium was used as a temporary shelter for the displaced families from the tornado-torn apartment and the 100-year flood in 2015. They sponsored health related events, school backpack giveaway events and many community relation events. That's why majority of my annual United Way pledge is allocated to Houston Chinese Community Center. Because of the community penetration, it has attracted many successful businesses around here. The center is constructing a 2-story building called "New Horizons", which will provide much needed space for more exciting programs. The kids do educational activities and have crafts that come home almost every day. They keep the kids busy and minds engaged. My son has loved being in Ms Bessy's classroom and talks about her and his classmates when away from school. He's excited every morning to attend and I love that the teachers use gentle words and redirection for discipline. This is the best place. Note! The school is not affiliated with the church they're in. They just rent the space. They do a Christian based curriculum and tell them about God. My son came home singing cute Sunday school songs. They have a great relationship with the kids, and encourage them to love one another and treat each person with kindness and respect. We truly are so blessed to have found SproutStart and would recommend them to any family or friend. I'm a single mom and I cannot say how important it was for me to find a safe haven for him while I worked. This was it for us and I hope you will give them a shot. They've exceeded every expectation I had.

They offer a ton of extracurricular activities (extra fee) that help keep my child engaged.
