Inside, the library has light streaming in it and books everywhere. There is ample seating as well if you would like to study in a quiet setting. The librarians that I saw were very friendly and welcoming. They offered a variety of items for sale as well including books, CDs, DVDs. When I walked in, there was a bagged craft immediately there for all the kids who are interested in crafting based on books. Their children's section is also very large and provides some play items as well. There are many computers for use as well.

I used to come here often 15 years ago and much hasn't changed since then but the library is still in good shape. Would come back here to work, study, or read a magazine.

On a more recent visit, picking up classic movies..both MA MA Mias...I found my self checking out their bulletin board on upcoming events. This is what brings me to my review....events and things to do were a variety for kids and adults. This particular library has adult color kits, and had a sign posted for paint night. Glad to have signed up...Kim our intrustor was helpful and patient for any of us with questions. There were a total of 13, with the instructor. The event was a creative, simple and each of us had different interpretations of the original painting. A bonus for all of us, Kim is an elementary art teacher. My quest to explore various Erie Country library branches had us landing in Lancaster last week…read more WOW, what a beautiful branch! It's an expansive, open main space with a dome-shaped vaulted ceiling adorned with big glowing orbs of bright light. A bit poetic of a description maybe, but this space really feels poetic. Even if you don't need anything from the library, it would be worth a visit. There is a massive copper fireplace, such a darling place to relax or study, just a lovely aesthetic in general here. If you are coming for particular resources, there's a good chance that the Lancaster location has what you need. There are many cubicle-style computer workstations in the middle of the room. In the front adjacent to a big wall of windows is the children's area. My son had fun with the legos and other blocks, as well as found a cozy spot to do his homework. There are several rows of DVDs and CDs along the middle-side wall, with the opposite wall housing stacks and stacks of books in all the genres you'd expect. Magazines are in the back near the fireplace. I like the "new" displays at this library, and actually came across a new book I forgot I wanted to read (the newer Demi Moore tell-all biography, winning!), plus there were newly released DVD and CD racks too. Perusing the rows and rows of materials to find something that catches your eye can be intimidating in any library, so I appreciate when librarians take time to showcase new offerings that may spark interest. Parking for this library is in the rear off of a side road, and there is plenty of it. When you enter the back door, it is a flight of stairs or an elevator ride to get up a level to the main space. The main space has some vending options if you want a beverage or snack. And there appears to be lots of community programming happening her too, with racks of flyers and many bulletin boards of happenings for people of all ages and varying interests. Checkout the library website for specifics. I really enjoyed hanging out here for a couple hours with my husband and son. My son did his homework, played with toys, he and his dad played checkers for a while, we all relaxed and read a bit, and found some things to bring home. What more could you ask, the Lancaster library is a very pleasant, solid branch. Come and enjoy!

I was there in early May when everything is just starting. They had a little library book sale and I picked up a David Sedaris book for a quarter. There is a great children's section. There is also a wonderful remembrance area for Flight 3407, in the back. This library also had a cute Sherlock Holmes display case that was donated to the library. This library is clean and beautifully maintained. The librarians were friendly as well. There is a large parking lot. For a Friday afternoon it was quite busy. They had a great work area for people wanting a quiet space.

Plus they were open later, which is convenient for us. So after work, off we went. The Clarence Library has plenty of parking in a big lot, which was light-and-bright on a cold, dark night. As soon as you walk in, you can see the full expanse of the vaulted, open space. It is a nice-sized library, with well-marked sections. Movies are to the right, adult books to the left, teen and children materials in the back, periodicals in the back-right corner, with all the other sections you'd expect to find at a library somewhere in between. There were computer workstations spread out in pod-like setups throughout the space, a few together in each pod, and some chunks of seating areas too. It took me a minute to find my Harry Potter items, as the books were not in Youth or YA, but rather in a separate "Series" section in the middle of the library. And the movies were in a separate "Family Viewing" section, too. But a friendly librarian helped me find everything that I needed, which was all in stock. Clarence is a very nice, bright, inviting library. When we need something and the hours/availability are convenient again at Clarence Library, we'll be back! :-)

I was at Island Park, which is behind the library when I remembered I had a book in the car that I had to return so popped in here. The librarian behind the desk was very nice and wanted to make sure I was aware of the new rule about books being 'quarantined' for 72 hours before being checked back in. Good to know incase you look on line and think your book hasn't been properly returned. I already knew it but still nice that they point it out. Side note, the 72 hours will not make your book late if you go beyond the return date. As I said, very small but comfortable and if the book you want isn't there you can always order it. Just limits your 'browsing' for a book. Still worth visiting.

We also saw a number of raffles going as an incentive to get the kids reading over the summer months. The standout observation I had about this place was how many books they had for sale! We are in from out of town so that was a nice option to grab something for the kids for the road that we didn't have to worry about returning, and the prices were fair at .50 for most and 1.00 for kids hardcover. Definitely seemed like the selections were geared more towards a kids library.

It goes from May 1 through Aug. 31., 2026. I love that the local garden club made a little dish garden. It brightened up the space. I was there on a Tuesday close to 6pm, when they closed, but the library was bustling. It was great to see.

I live on the edge of Cheektowaga near Amherst, so coming to town hall is about a 10/15 minute drive for me. You can take care of your typical legal business here, such as tax payments, dog licensing, etc. I've visited here twice for both of these reasons. It's a semi-dated building on the inside, original architecture mixed with some 80's elevator system or something (I don't know the exact date the elevators were put in, I'm just making them seem old here). If I recall correctly, part of the building was under repairs during my last visit. There's plenty of signage telling you where you need to go, at least! As long as I continue living in the town, I'm sure I'll find my way back eventually.

Since this is the main library system location, where most administrative offices are housed, I'll park this review here. There are a few things about the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library system I would like to praise: ** The library system is great at keeping new, popular books in stock. But what if you want a book that isn't new? And/or isn't very popular? You can easily request it be purchased with an online form. If the book is available from a vendor the library can use, they will order it for you and send it to your preferred branch for pick up. I have done this many times. Most books I have requested can be ordered. And oftentimes within less than 24 hours of entering my purchase request online, a library representative emails me back that the order has been placed--a lightening fast response! It can take a few weeks to get the book in your hands. Overall, the library system offers EXCEPTIONAL patron service with book purchases! ** My mom is an avid reader. Recently she had to upsize to large-print books. She is a weekly regular user of the library system's large print collection. I've always seen the shelves for large print, but didn't give them much thought. Until at Christmastime, when I went to buy a few large-print books for my mom, and WOW, they are pricey! So I have to give a shout out to the library for doing a wonderful job at keeping large-print titles in stock for our WNY community sight-impaired folks. These books would definitely be cost-prohibitive to have to buy ourselves, especially at the pace my mom reads. New, popular large-print books are added regularly. And I'm usually first in line to grab them for my mom! :-D ** During pandemic times, the library system has had a long break in charging hold fees. I hold materials all the time, for the ease of picking them up at my preferred branch. Usually when you hold a material, there is a hold fee charged (.50 for books, $1 for media). This is no issue for me, I do not mind covering some of the cost of transferring things between branches. But for at least a couple months now, the library system has entirely waived hold fees. This is fantastic because you can hold items (all done online), the librarian puts them all together for you at your preferred branch as they arrive, and you have an easy one-stop-grab-and-checkout with all of your requested goodies. If you have any reservations about perusing the physical library during COVID, you can easily do it all online, select your items, hold them, and grab-and-go at the branch, easy-peasy! ** Also during COVID, the library system has many branches that offer walk-up and/or curbside pick-up. At my preferred branch, walk-up is available. I simply call the library to check out my holds (again, a great reason for holding, the library can grab it all in one spot), they librarian checks them out, they bag it up, and I stop by later to grab my things. At my branch, you go in the back door hallway, ring a bell, and they bring your bag to a long table which you are easily able to socially-distance-grab your checkouts. I am at the library on a weekly basis. My whole family enjoys checking out a variety of materials, the hubbs and I, our kids, and my parents. But materials checkout is really the tip of the iceberg with the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library system offerings. A quick scan of their website lists an ABUNDANCE of other services and events. A resolution of mine is to use more of these great offerings this year. We're starting with a virtual crafting event for our teen daughter this week, and already picked up the supplies. I'm looking forward to another great year of patronizing our top-notch, much-loved library system in WNY. Thank you so very much for everything that you do to enrich our community.
