Do not place your love ones at Judson Park skilled nursing. I was a patient for one week where I endured cardiac arrest and was rushed to Valley Medical hospital because of the neglect I received at Judson Park. Judson Park almost killed me. The staff is poorly trained, language is a problem. my Heart shaped healing stone was stolen, medication, food was confused regularly. bugs were crawling on the ceiling above my bed. Male staff member came at night asking for jewelry. I was very afraid at night . Judson Park needs to be investigated and closed. They will kill someone, or cause a early death. Be careful sending your loved ones to Judson Park. I just had my mother there and we had given her a heart-shaped healing Stone that magically disappeared from her nightstand, I was also informed that the staff mainly on night shift was very rude to my mother and took a long time to attend to her, they continuously messed up her food order and medication. I also was just informed that there was someone on the night shift that came into her room when no one was around holding his hands up wiggling his fingers asking where her jewelry was so that he could obviously take it from her. Ok...so here's an update...the rehab Gym has only enough hand weights so a person can only use one weight at a time...easier to run the clock out and chart " rehab time. Lots of time getting the equipment ready. Moving on to care...uneven and some of the staff seem very lackluster...new management I understand. Never see management when there's a problem. It seems likely that the rehab "residents" never leave...just lay around in their rooms or stare out into space. Three weeks was way too long. Some caring caregivers. "Short term rehab"...not really. Five patients on the second floor have Covid. Saw no reason to stay any longer. read more

The team at Judson Park was incredible in guiding us to the right decision for my father as he navigated the change from living independently in his own home to living independently in an apartment in their beautiful community. The quality of the care that my father received was top-notch, far exceeding our expectations. When he needed advanced care, they were excellent in working with the hospice coordinator to ensure he would be transitioned into the care facility that would provide for the type of care he needed. Unfortunately, he did not recover from an unexpected medical event. The Spiritual Care provider was a godsend and helped us in ways that are hard to put into words. I feel so very happy that my father was in such a wonderful place during his last days. Judson Park is on my list as the community I would like to spend my later years. read more

If you don't expect any answers to your questions....if you don't expect a response to a request for care....if you make known what your family member wants for meals and no one cares then this is the place for your loved one! My mother has steadily gone downhill since she moved to Judson Park three months ago. In that time (three months) she has had three urinary tract infections!! In all fairness, and we have lived at Judson Park for one year now, we find our years of researching a good place to retire is here. Our apartment is a condominium by another name and well laid out with so many unexpected amenities within and without. Our unit is on the third floor and overlooks the Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. We sit on our deck in the evening sharing memories and maybe some wine as the sun sets. Our kitchen is well appointed with so much storage for groceries and utensils that we are content with our chosen accommodations. Freshly cooked meals prepared daily are well-balanced, attractive, and satisfying both in a luxurious dining room and a snack bar named appropriately the Bistro. The dining is informal and the daily menu is appealing to every appetite with unique items from American other countries; beef stroganoff for example and stuffed peppers. Breakfast at the Bistro starts off a happy day with typical choices of ham and eggs, pancakes, and scrambled eggs; well you get the idea. Try a special version of pizza and a beer here too, Pies cakes, and pastries of delight can be found at the Bistro and the Rainier dining room. There are so many good things to relate to and you would need to visit to see why we are exuberant living at Judson Park. read more

When my mother was in Independent Living, things were fine. But her last 2 years were spent in Assisted Living - where she received neither assistance nor experienced living. Medication was given and supervised casually; indeed after we moved her out, there were pills on the floor and under furniture that staff had never seen that she take. She was often left helpless on the toilet waiting for someone to come assist her - several times longer than 30 minutes. Afterwards she was redressed so hastily she was uncomfortable for the rest of the day. We found urine stains and feces on the arms of her commode. We began taking photos of these things and even brought in someone from the State Board. After showing the board person the photos, we were accused of "setting up" the pictures. Obviously Judson has that Board in their pocket, and no doubt money is exchanged. For 2 years my mother suffered this treatment while they drained her bank account to the tune of almost $10,000 per month. This is a classic case of wretchedly under-paid staff (therefore low quality), understaffing, and resulting high turnover. All of this so that some corporate big shots take home their sacks of bucks - reprehensible greed at the expense of old, helpless people. My mother paid in $100,000 to live her life out at Judson, and they kept it - despite the fact that at the point none of us could stand it anymore, we moved her out and made other arrangements. Do not EVER get yourself tangled up with these people. Their so-called "Assisted Living" is nothing but a hell hole. After posting this, I see other people have shared similar experiences. How you people stay in business (outside of plain bribery and money under the table) is beyond me. Personally I would rather die in my own bed or slit my own throat than to end up at the mercy of the people at Judson Park. How do you sleep at night?? Had a similar experience with Dr Gaines in March 2019. My father had a stroke March 19, 2019 and Valley General had him transferred to this hellhole saying how great it was. Wrong! Dr Gaines NEVER visited or assessed my Dad who was in comfort care for his unrecoverable stroke. He kept having break thru pain. We spent most of our time tracking down nurses to keep him comfortable when we should've spent it with my Dad in his last days. We requested a meeting with the social worker. Asked what the Dr notes said. "No Dr notes are in the file. She relies on the nurses and CNA's notes. Medical records puts the notes into the system". BS! What dr doesn't take notes while with a patient?! She never saw him in 3 days! We told Social worker we wanted all the notes, the dr to see him and a mtg with Dr. Later that day, my Dads friends come in to say good bye and in there for 1/2 hr and come out. I go in 5 min later and there is one of Dr Gaines' business cards on the nightstand. Friends said she was never there and card wasnt there when they were in there. Medical file said she met with him for 45min! LIE! We have a mtg with her (first time she even acknowledged us and we were there 13hrs a day. I didn't even know she was the Dr!) I brought up the family's concerns and also the Fentanyl patch knowing what it does. She actually said, "We arent in the business of euthanasia". I lost it along with my sister and my mom. She then explained that he was too skinny for it to absorb into his system. So, instead of saying that, she accused me of trying to kill my Dad off. It's called COMFORT CARE! She is a horrendous little troll and we later found out that Judson Park had fired her but she was staying thru the weekend. Lucky us, not! We then had a meeting with Danni, the Health Adminstrator to complain about the care, Dr Gaines, etc. At the end of that mtg she said, "Had I been here when your Dad was admitted, I wouldn't have accepted him. We dont normally take Comfort Care/end of life patients". Well, when the social worker at the hospital tells you they have a bed and he is being transferred at 2pm, you go with the 'experts'. My sister and I have never been thru this type of thing before so we were relying on their 'expertise'. Never again! Oh, and I never signed their financial papers. My Dad was social security only and we applied for Medicaid in the Hospital. That came thru a month after he passed. Meanwhile, I get a phone call from their billing dept. to see if I had heard anything yet. Nope. It came thru but now I'm getting a $662.91 bill for ME personally to pay, not the estate which has no money and never did. I never signed an agreement saying I would. Now threatening me with 'legal action'. Bring it! We can talk about their tactics of Balance Billing which is illegal! I will be filing a complaint with the State regarding their tactics and lack of care. NEVER LEAVE YOUR LOVED ONE HERE! The ONLY good part of the stay was the nurse EVA and a couple CNA's. I spent four months in Judson Park Skilled Nursing. After a fall, I had surgery on my ankle and Judson proved to be a great place to recover. Th CNA staff is awesome, Nursing is Caring and Considerate. Their Physical and Occupational teams are top notch. They really care about your recovery. They are very educated and they made sure I had a wheelchair when I left.I To top all this off, the quality of food was great. None of those hospital, dietary meals. Just good wholesome food with a variety of snacks for between meals. I've been in five Skilled Nursing Facilities and this was, by far, the best one I've been in. If I ever need another stay, this is where I will go. I would recommend this place to anyone needing superior care for a loved one. read more

Where to start. Judson Park is insanely expensive, the care there is what I would consider negligent, and some staff members seem cold, negligent and apathetic. (Except Jay, a nurse I found delightful.) In April my mom and I entrusted my grandma's care to JP. She has severe osteoarthritis and end stage congestive heart failure, so she has a very hard time moving and breathing. Not only did they fail to check grandma's condition/labs X-rays in a timely manner, but they blew us off completely when we voiced our worries about her breathing issues. In fact, one nurse admitted she moved my grandma to another room WITHOUT her oxygen, because she "didn't have help moving stuff." My grandma literally almost suffocated to death. My mom happened to be visiting that day, and walked in to find my grandma alone and gasping for air, saying, "Help me! Help me!" My mom was traumatized, and thought she was witnessing her mom dying. When she confronted the nurse, the nurse gave her attitude, saying that she didn't have enough help to move the bed and the oxygen tank. So instead of asking for help or waiting to move grandma safely, she left her alone without oxygen for god knows how long. When Gma's oxygen level was checked, it was only 84! When my mom escalated the issue of Gma almost suffocating due to the nurse's negligence, nothing was done, and staff just said "Oh, she [grandma] just has anxiety." So basically they were trying to say my 86 yr old Gma with heart failure couldn't breathe because she has "anxiety." The staff also spoke poorly about my grandma, blaming her for lack of mobility (she screams in pain when any weight is put on her knees due to extreme arthritis, so I don't blame her for being scared to move) and saying that other homes might not take her, because she is "overweight." Celia, the "social worker" was bad about getting things done and calling my mom back, while at the same time pressuring my mom to get grandma into another home IMMEDIATELY. (I'm assuming because Gma has Medicaid and they were allegedly out of "Medicaid rooms." Instead of the SOCIAL WORKER finding referrals for my grandma and helping us as a family facilitate a move to another home, she put it all on my mom. So my mom scrambled to find another home with Medicaid openings, and then once she found one, Celia took forever to call them and send all the necessary paperwork. Now that my grandma is in the new home, they have been calling my mom, all confused about my grandma's mental and physical condition. Come to find out, Judson Park failed to mention even once that Gma has delusions, including about medical stuff. Not one person took note of those symptoms. I'm a licensed therapist in the mental health field, and am APPALLED by the lack of warmth, care, attention and ethics displayed by Judson Park. I don't know how they have high ratings. Perhaps the rich residents who can pay the full price, receive better treatment. There's even more, but I won't bother writing a novel. So far, her new home is way better. read more

My wife and I moved to residential living at Judson Park 3 years ago. It is a wonderful place to live with outstanding staff, excellent food and lots to do with good neighbors. Beautiful, modern apartments with stunning views of Puget Sound. Our monthly cost is less than living in our home, with no utilities, homeowner fees, repairs, cable or grocery costs. The negative reviews I saw for the skilled nursing facility are from 1 or 2 years ago, and new management and new physicians have the care to the point where it now has a 5 star rating with the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, and an outstanding rating by U.S.News and World Report. read more

My mother recently needed the services of a skilled nursing facility and short-term rehab, so we chose Judson Park. My mother had gone there years ago and was very happy with her care, but I must say, the care she received this time was exceptional. The transition from Valley General Hospital to Judson Park was smooth and easy because of their close alliance and the communication they had with us. They took care of everything. As soon as we arrived and settled in, the heads of the care team at Judson met with us individually. It would have been overwhelming if all had come in at once. Each member went through plans and answered our questions and did so throughout my mom's stay. This initial positive impression continued throughout her stay and only got better. The doctor and shift nurses worked closely with the team at Valley General and modified her medications as they monitored her progress. She had 24-hour care and the nurses and their assistants answered her call button in a timely matter. The physical and occupational therapists tailored my mother's exercises so as to challenge and motivate her and prepare her for her transition to home. When she was first admitted, we thought the process would take longer, but with their care, my mom made good progress and went home earlier than anticipated. The dietician and food service also played an important role. Even though my mother had no appetite (one of the side effects of pain meds) and was not eating enough, they monitored her weight and supplemented her meals with ice cream and protein drinks. Medically speaking her care was wonderful, but what made this whole experience so great was the personal touch by the entire staff. They all seemed to be truly devoted and loved their jobs and cared about each patient and had such personal interactions with us. It was much more than just an institution to meet the physical needs. I hope if I ever need care, I will get this same level. They made what could have been a difficult time so much better. I hope that if I ever need care, mine will match what my mother had. read more

Hello, I am writing as a daughter of a resident at Judson Park for the last three years. I have yet to have any concerns regarding the care that is provided at this wonderful community. What has prompted me to write a review (which I honestly rarely do) is the immediate and loving response that my father has received in the midst of a pandemic. First of all, I was overseas when this began and was immediately concerned that my father was living in a senior community where the COVID-19 virus could be deadly. Not at Judson Park- Judson Park immediately took action and shut the doors as well as monitored the employees. In the midst of this, my father became very weak with a UTI. They took action and got my father to the emergency room, cleaned his room while he was in the hospital, and will guide me with next steps; all this on top of their commitment to keep everyone safe. My husband too was in for rehab after a pulmonary embolism. 10 days later Dr Gaines who should not be in charge of ANYONE , said he no longer needed to be there for his medical condition? He was doing well with rehab and because she wrote this to the insurance company they denied benefits any longer. The physical therapist that were working with him agreed he was improving but not ready to go home. I was told that they were in network with my insurance company, but now find that they are out of Network! I was told when dr Gaines wrote the review and would not change that Medicare would take over? Medicare is secondary. Now we re faced with again having to do their job. During the stay I stayed there for the same reasons. Pills not always delivered on time, food times varied, long waits for changes or help . Some shifts were ok but weekends forget it! They offered snacks on demand but if you ordered they wer either out or were reluctant to help. I thought I could leave and have confidence that he would be safe and helped. One night at 2am I went to the hall to find someone for the neighbor who was needing help . I found NO one on the floor. I believe residence number was 38? I counted names on the doors. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone placing their loved ones in this rehabilitation facility. My father was admitted to St. Francis Hospital in August to be treated for an infection. During his stay at the hospital, he was doing quite well. Unfortunately, he needed continued care that required around the clock care to administer intervenes antibiotics that could not be cared for in his own home. During his stay and due to the Covid 19 no family members were able to visit him to make sure that he was getting the required care and treatment he so needed. Two weeks into his stay we requested a ZOOM meeting to see him and how he was doing. To our astonishment, it was horrible to see him in the condition he was in. He went from eating in the hospital and doing quite well to not eating at all, no bathing, grooming developed ulcer "bed sores on his backside. He looked in grave condition. He could not even respond to us. Due to his declined health, he was transported back to the hospital to be treated for his way worse condition and passed away three days later. I know for a fact that he would be here today if he got the treatment and care he so needed from the staff at Judson Park. During his stay, it was also so difficult to get ahold of anyone to check on him on a daily basis. Today we still are trying to reach out to them with no return calls. I know these are hard times with the COVID but I think that the care given to our loved ones that need help are not getting what they deserve. read more

My 85 year old mother originally was in an apartment at Judson Park for 4.5 years, where she did not need any help from the staff and things were fine. As her mental and physical health declined, we moved her into the Village Health Care Center (2nd floor) at Judson Park where she needed almost full daily care. We were told the 2nd floor is just like the 3rd floor. At the Village, we noticed numerous issues including: her room not being ready when scheduled to move in, no orientation, poor communication (a lot of "deer in headlight looks" when asked simple questions), care scheduled not being followed, her still being in bed at 11:15 am or sitting alone in the dining room with breakfast food at 11 am, lunch was regularly served 45 minutes late, receiving a 4" cut on her leg (when asked how it happened, they said they just noticed it one night), needing to ask several times to bring her to the dining room for meals before the request was fulfilled, after the call button was pressed, waiting 20 minutes for assistance and numerous other similar issues AND we were paying also $12,000 a month - $390 a day for a single room! We also noticed 3 other residents, who only had the use of one arm, being served food that was not cut up or help being offered to cut it up. Had to speak up several times for residents that obviously had problems filling out their daily menus. (5+ separate times I saw just mashed potatoes being served and not asking if they would like something else) etc, I had zero confidence in my mother being cared for properly and felt we had to spend 4 to 6 hours a day there....2 of my aunts who regularly visited my mother said they had also experienced numerous similar issues. My mothers sister was in two different assisted living / skilled nursing care facilities and they both commented that the service at Judson Park was far below what they had experienced at these other locations. We were all very disappointed in the poor experience we had at Judson Park Village, so we moved my mother to a different care facility and at her new location we have not experienced any of the issues we experienced at Judson Park and it is less than half the price. I talked to several people in management and expressed our concerns and our experiences and they did seem genuinely concerned, I hope they can make the changes that are needed. read more

This is a review for Judson Park's Health Center: Do not trust these people or Dr. Gaines with caring for your relatives! The doctors and nurses are rude and neglectful. My grandmother was here while recooperating from a lung infection and needs to be on oxygen. One of her first nights there she had to sleep in soiled sheets because no one came to help her to the bathroom. She complained to our family that it would take the staff hours to bring her new oxygen tanks, when we brought this up with the staff they brushed it off and said my grandmother was exaggerating. Okay. A few days later while visiting, my grandmother was very short of breath and saying she couldn't breathe and was visibly scared. Her doctor insisted she was having an anxiety attack and if she would just calm down she'd feel better. Direct quote from Dr. Gaines: "If she had more willpower she could breathe better," Her attitude was disdainful and I think she even rolled her eyes while listening to my grandmother. A few more days go by and my mom receives a call from my grandmother, who was barely understandable due to her breathing troubles and my mom had to call 911 to have an ambulance pick my grandmother up and take her to the hospital. The doctors at Highline hospital told my mom that my grandmothers lungs were nearly full of fluid, and had she not gone to the ER for another hour or so she would have died. This is when the staff at Judson Park started to lie her a** off saying they had repeatedly offered to call 911 for my grandmother and said she refused every time. This is a lie. My mom is her POA and never once received a phone call alerting her to her mothers condition or that going to the hospital was being encouraged/offered. My mom, rightfully upset, contacted the main doctor (Dr. Gaines) at Judson Park in charge of my grandmother's care who told her "Well, none of the nurses want to go around her because she's always in such a bad mood," OF COURSE SHES IN A BAD MOOD, she had less than 3 inches of room in her lungs to breathe and no one bothered to check for something worse or take into account she was there for (and has a history of) lung issues! Dr. Gaines should not be a doctor if she cannot recognize when a patient needs to be hospitalized. If you are entering a profession such as doctor or nurse, the attitude of a patient should not effect if/how you care for them. Be a professional or get another job. This place should be shut down and I feel so sad and scared for the residents who do not have outside advocates ensuring their health and safety. read more

Naturally I have watched closely to see how the facility has been managed, whether the staff are happy and engaged, how responsive they are to constructive criticism, etc etc. On all counts, I have had nothing but good impressions.and good experiences during my regular visits. At Judson Park I have observed help available for both aging parents for every season of life after Retirement (Independent apartments, Assisted Living personalized to each person's needs and level of care, Health Center care if there's a need to recover from a hospital and be near a spouse, hospice living arrangements if needed, and mental health care unit, if needed). The Judson Team excels at building up the residents! Judson has beautiful landscaping and peaceful uplifting views. They have provided a wide variety of activities and events if a person wants to take part. They also encourage and help with personal development in learning and interests. We have had the experience of my father being in Judson park rehab center over the last 3mos. The time we have spent here has been very pleasant. The staff and the facility is worthy of 5 stars. It is an older building but it's cleanliness and updates to it have made it very comfortable. It is a home away from home. The staff are very professional and very caring. You can tell that they love what they do from the housekeeper with the friendly smile to the administration who are never too busy for you. It is one big family and you become a part of it when you are here. The PT center is amazing. The therapists are so encouraging and friendly. Their center is clean and has the means to help anyone with rehab. Again this place is amazing and you would not go wrong for choosing this as a place to rehab at. read more

My mother is a resident in The Village (skilled nursing) at Judson Park. She receives loving and capable care.

My father was a resident of the Grove memory care unit at Judson Park for a little less than two years, until he died this past weekend, peaceful and pain-free, surrounded by his loving family. I can't say enough good things about the Grove. From the scheduled activities perfectly tuned to dementia patients, to the healthy and often delicious food, to the kind and attentive staff, it was the ideal place for my father. When we were looking for a place for him, we were told that the staff at Judson Park seems to stay longer than nearly any other place around, showing their job satisfaction. That certainly seemed to be the case in the Grove, where everyone was unfailingly considerate, calm, knowledgeable, good-humored and sweet despite doing a very difficult job with many demanding residents and family members. We could drop in with no notice at any time of day and find my father clean, well-groomed, up and about, well-fed and happy. Franciscan Hospice came in near the end and worked hand in glove with Judson Park to provide the palliative care that my father and our family wished for, with the compassion and expertise we needed in that difficult time. It has been amazing to see the positive changes that are happening to improve the lives of residents in the healthcare center at Judson Park. The rehabilitation team is new since this fall and the satisfaction in their service is very high. The new nurse leadership team has dramatically improved quality measures. The new chef and dining director listen to what residents want and the new smoothly machine and soft serve in the bistro has been a big hit and a family favorite for a nice visit. Our precious Mother entered Judson Park, Health Center directly from Highline Hospital Emergency with acute stage 5 Renal failure. Our Mother also suffered from mental dementia. It became apparent she needed to begin Kidney dialysis three times per week. The entire staff in the Health Center from Administrator, Nursing, Occupational and Physical Therapist, daily Care specialist and Housekeeping were proficient, compassionate, thorough and with exemplary tender loving care shown to mom. Mothers kidney function continued to worsen as did her dementia and she sadly passed away on Easter Sunday. She was surrounded by her 6 children. The palliative comfort care provided by Judson staff her last days simply couldn't have been better. As a family we felt lovingly supported during the most difficult emotional experience of our lives. An easy 5 star review. Thank you so very much. read more

I moved up here from California to get help for my wife with Alzheimer's. Unfortunately she died after only a few months. Then I decided to stay here rather than move again.
