The station primarily servers Amtrak trains, but there's adjacent entrance to the subway line as well, accessible via the ramp. The main building of the station has the iconic clock tower. The station's interior was also beautiful, with high ceilings, art decor on the walls, marble floors and shafts. There were plenty of benches for passengers to sit. Multiple displays were showing the arrival times of the trains. The atmosphere inside the station was much nicer than its exterior suddronding. Once we got to the station, we went to the baggage drop off area. A friendly staff member behind the counter helped us with weighing both of our luggages, tagging them and lining them up for the train. Our train arrived at the platform on time. Our tickets were checked at the door. Staff members were available on the platform to help us find the correct car. Overall I had a wonderful experience of boarding Amtrak train for the first time ever from this station.

There they have a first class lounge enclosed from the rest of the station. They offered non alcoholic drinks and snacks. In addition they have soft chairs and sofas to sit on. King Street Station totally lacked this. In addition in Sacramento a tram picks you up from the station and takes you to the door of the train so no dragging your luggage across the station. When we arrived at King Street Station they told us to sit on the hard benches even though we were traveling in first class. We had a roomette. The station has bathrooms, but the Women's room was closed for cleaning the entire time we were at the station. We were there an hour. They have a security desk as soon as you walk in, but they don't have luggage tags there. They announced over the loud speaker that announced everyone needs luggage tags. I talked to an attendant and they said they were out. Oops!!! Poor planning. They do have 2 vending machines. A drink one and a snack one. There is no cafe or coffee shop. Sacramento has a coffee shop attached to the station.

I'm not sure if they have a private parking lot or not, but I'm guessing they don't as we didn't meet our ride there. Our poor cousin was stuck in the mess of pick ups and drop offs. It was gridlocked. People were parked everywhere and it was impossible to get thought. They really need to have a better system to deal with traffic. Going home was a breeze. We got there over an hour before our train so there was no traffic when we arrived. It's a beautiful station. So much marble and great architecture. It's a classic looking station. Marble, tile, and wood. Classic wooden benches. It looked like a station that is pictured in a movie. One thing they lacked at this staton was a first class lounge to wait in. We got there so early and I totally expected a lounge. One with soft seats and complimentary snacks and drinks like they do in Sacramento. There they have a separate lounge that takes Amtrak up a notch in your traveling experience. Unfortunately we all had to sit on the hard wood seats as we waited to board our train. Having a Sleeping Car we did exit the Station at a differnt door as the coach passengers. Though they didn't have a shuttle to the train like we did in Sacramento the walk wasn't as far. We arrived too late on the train to be able to enjoy breakfast unfortunately. I really wanted to try their French toast with berries. I missed that on our trip here. We did make it in time for lunch which was pleasant. We had the Caesar Salad. My girlfriend's tummy doesn't agree with the Caesar dressing so she got a basaltic dressing and enjoyed her salad too. One happy surprise was they had bubbly water as one of the included drinks. No up charge which was nice. The seating was nice. There was adequate leg room in the sleeper roomette. It was really nice to have our own space to spread out in. We didn't have to lug our stuff around with us. We could keep all our luggage with us and not worry about anyone touching it. We felt really safe. At night they laid our chairs down to create a sleeping area. I reccomend you get your own sleeping roomette as they are really small and being on the top bunk is a challenge.
