Have you ever walked along North Terrace between King William and Pulteney Streets and noticed the bronze plaques set into the footpath.
Back in 1986 to commemorate the State's 150th Anniversary these plaques were set into the pavement to create the Jubilee 150 Walkway. There are exactly 150 of these things - count them if you don't believe me - along North Terrace and each is dedicated to the deeds of a famous South Aussie who contributed to the development of the State. They are arranged in alphabetical order and include people like Sir Robert Helpmann the famous dancer and Sir Edward Heyward who is best remembered as the man who founded Johnnies Christmas Pageant.
I actually remember the first time I noticed one of the plaques on North Terrace because my brother and I were catching our bus home from the city. Just can't believe that it was in 1986 - crikey I am feeling old! read more
