To whom it may concern:
On January 17,2007 Dr. Hilario Juarez saved my life for the first time. In March of 2004 I had gastric bypass surgery done by Robin Blackstone at Scottsdale Healthcare in Scottsdale, AZ. I awoke from the surgery in ICU. That is where the nightmare began. After surgery, I was seriously ill all of the time. I had continual nausea, constipation, and dry heaving. Over the next three years, I would be rushed to the emergency on a regular basis after not being able to have a bowel movement for a couple of weeks, then it would all come out at once, dropping my blood pressure down until I couldn't hold my head up. Each time they would send me home with, "Don't push so hard.", "Your Vegas nerve is shutting down.", and a laundry list of other reasons that I was in such a terrible physical state. On January 17,2004 I was very ill and had been lying in the bed for three days, not able to even have clothing touching me, dry heaving, in horrible pain. I was taken to the Payson Hospital Emergency room. The pain was more excruciating than childbirth. I waited at the Payson Hospital for 14 hours while my doctor, Judith Hunt desperately tried to contact Robin Blackstone or get a response from her office. She did not respond, so my doctor started looking for a surgeon that would take me. She tried all over the Phoenix area and Flagstaff area, no one wanted to take me. She had a friend who had had bypass surgery and asked her who her surgeon was. By the grace of God, it was Dr. Hilario Juarez. He agreed to take me as his patient in my condition when he had no previous involvement with me. I was air lifted to St Luke's Medical Center.
Dr. Juarez and his assistant, Emile took me into surgery around 9:00 p.m. and finished at 4:30a.m. the next morning. Mind you, I was not even his patient at the time. Over the next two months I would have several more bowel resections and remained in a medical coma for over a month. During this time, Dr. Juarez tried to contact Dr. Robin Blackstone about her patient. She never responded to any of his phone calls. Yes, she is still practicing in the same location.
I later found out that I had my bowel obstructed in a hernia in my abdomen. I had doctors and nurses coming to look at the woman that was not supposed to live. My husband was told by another doctor, " Your wife has a 0% chance of survival, you need to prepare." I had a nurse ask me one day, "Do you know why you are alive?" She continued, "Dr. Juarez loves a challenge, he loves to do things that others say can't be done."
Since 2007, I have had too many surgeries to count, I continue to struggle with my health. Dr. Juarez has been there every step of the way to make sure that my quality of life is the best it can be. My husband owes him the fact that without him, he wouldn't have a wife. My children owe him the fact that without him, they wouldn't have a mother. Dr. Juarez is amazing man and doctor. read more
