TLDR; This place is good but I wouldn't say great. I recommend ordering online instead of dining in. With the rave reviews I was really hoping I had found a hidden gem in Groton. It was a bit above average for the area and prices were better than I've seen elsewhere. My husband and I dined in on a Saturday around 6 pm. The place was already slammed with online orders and it did not stop the entire hour or so we spent in the building. Everything is disposable even when dining in and eating out of styrofoam isn't my preference but ok. It's a small establishment and I would guess the overwhelming majority of their business comes through online ordering. So, order online rather than go in as there is no real ambiance. I tend to order pretty basic rolls and sashimi which I think really levels the playing field when it comes to sushi. So, my commentary on the sushi is just based on the quality of the fish. It was alright not particularly vibrant or fresh. But not bad either. The pieces of sashimi were literally the biggest I've ever seen. They were too big to comfortably one-bite. The spicy tuna roll was pretty good and didn't require soy sauce to make it palatable. The miso soup was also good. My husband loved their salad dressing. If we decide to order again I would skip the sashimi and probably order some à la cart nigiri to form my final opinion. The search for a truly killer sushi place around here continues. read more

Ju sushi is such a solid spot for cheap and trustworthy sushi. You aren't paying for the frills or experience of a more expensive spot, but you'll enjoy the food just the same at like half the price. I love it for a quick dinner or snack. The decor on the walls is awesome too and the food is made decently fast. I'll always go back for more. read more

Don't underestimate this little restaurant because of it's size. I can promise you that you will be satisfied with anything you try. I have been ordering to gif or years when they were even smaller at their other location. Their small menu ensures quality is delivered with every bite. On this pick up I was in a hurry but will take extra pictures next time. I can say I have always been very happy with everything I've tried. The owner is so energetic and funny I love to come in and chat with him when I can. He cheers me up all the time. Perfect service no matter how busy he is. Besides ordering to go they do have sitting area inside with a few tables and a nice outdoor table too. Parking is limited but you can always park at BigY parking lot if necessary and walk down. So I have enjoyed sushi all over this nation from Maine to Hawaii. And JU-sushi is a hole in the wall location that provides a solid product for the price. It is a solid 3.5 to 4 star. I had their regular sushi bento box with two extra pieces of sushi. I got a good value for my money. The salmon was buttery but I wished it had a little more taste. However it was enjoyable and was very consumable. This place may not have the ambiance of a fancy sushi restaurant like in Huntington beach CA, but I don't eat ambiance, I eat sushi. JU sushi does just that, they give you good sushi. The wall of grateful graffiti shows you just how much JU sushi is appreciated by its clients. That wall of gratitude gave the extra 1/2 star for me. Think of it as your own private sushi party with a fancy and unique selection of seafood. It's a TON of food and a lot of fun so it's well worth price. We had 7 very different very delicious courses. The employees are very kind and personable. The restaurant is cute in a cozy/comfortable way. Don't let it's humble appearance and styrofoam plates scare you away! The sushi is really fresh and delicious plus the omakase includes hot food and dessert too. The omakase experience really blew me away. I highly recommend for your party of 5-10 people! Mr. Ju is one of the sweetest chefs I have met. He is a very talented sushi chef and was super kind enough to have 7 of us make a reservation to do Omakase. I would call in advance to make a reservation with 6-12 people, so that Mr. Ju has time to order all the ingredients for the Omakase. It was like having our own private chef making dishes for us, and we were very full by plate number 3 or 4. He was very generous with the price for the huge amount and super high quality of food he made us. The fish was very fresh and sliced very nicely. I was so full at the end, I couldn't do anything afterwards. My favorites were the toro, monkfish liver, the seafood soup, and the ikura (salmon roe) sushi. Even the dessert course was very delicious! I definitely will come back here the next time I visit Groton. read more

Edit: I have returned to try the nigiri. And I can now confirm that this is the best sushi spot in Groton and New London. Don't go to Sushi Kawa, don't go to Kyoto Steakhouse. This is it. Eating the nigiri allows one to truly taste the fish as it is not covered by sauces like spicy mayo or doused in soy sauce. The fish freshness here is better than all the sushi places around here; no competition. Good sushi. The rice was soft and at a good temperature. The quality of fish in the rolls was not bad. They have both traditional simple rolls and more americanized ones. I have eaten at many sushi restaurants/omakases in NY and Philly. And I can say that this place is not bad at all. It is definitely the best sushi you can get in Groton. I wouldn't go anywhere else for sushi around the area than here. Will be returning to try the nigiri. read more

My bill totaled $55 but it was worth every penny. Someone wrote on the wall, "Best Sushi In CT", and they couldn't have been more right. One of the beat things about the Sashimi Regular Box is that you get a portion of Sishi rice on the side. It is the rice that makes good sushi. This rice is very good. It is comparable to sone omakase restaurants I have been to at a fraction of the price. The futo maki was also very good. I have tried futo maki in other places and use my grandma's futo maki as a yardstick and this comes the closest. If you want good sushi in Southeast CT give Ju's a try. If you want some delicious sushi, Ju-Sushi is the place to go! I ordered twice in one week and it is only Wednesday. I ordered a party tray of 100 pieces and it was AMAZING. There were 8 pieces of nigiri and the rest were an assortment of rolls from the menu. You cannot pick the individual rolls but they were all awesome. When you walk into this seemingly tiny place, you feel suddenly like it got big just for you! Looks are deceiving. Okay so I don't ordinarily eat raw fish outside of Hawaii where I once lived and know the fish was wriggling just an hour ago. I'm pretty careful. So I go in there and I see all the wonderful raw fish choices and I salivate! No kidding. I go for the salmon nigiri, spicy tuna sushi roll, try some squid, and top things off with the seaweed salad. So good. So incredibly good. I left totally satisfied. They're generous with the wasabi, too. Love this little place. This little place may not look like a lot from the outside, but don't judge this book by its cover... Folks here are super nice and packed with flavor! My wife and I like to find the small business and support them, and if you're like us.. this is the diamond in the rough! It's not the entertaining place with the high overhead costs. But this is a good thing! As they don't have to pass the overhead costs on to you. Sashimi portions are large. When I mean large, I mean they are thicker and longer. And the rolls are diverse enough to find your goto rolls. If you find a roll you might like but this or that, ask them to make it to taste! They will! We have been here three times in one week and find it more pleasing than the two places just up the road. Seating is limited but most just come for the take out. Don't judge a book by it's cover. Yes we were apprehensive, yes we decided to take a chance and YES JU rewarded us with an awesome meal! Arguably the best sushi I've had on the East coast! The portions were very generous which isn't the norm at sushi places. The chef was very nice, double checked the order to make sure she got it right. The bathroom was impeccable. That might seem trivial to some but the pride of ownership is apparent in everything at Ju Sushi. Definitely returning as we travel to and from New England. read more

As an area sushi place, they've gone from wow to ehh pretty quickly. Most of the sushi rolls are basically a Cali roll with some additional toppings. Most likely because of the price increase thanks to inflation. The staff is friendly enough and the sushi IS still a go-to for a sushi night. Tucson, Houston, Florida, Montana, Washington, DC, Seattle, Vancouver, L.A. In airports, from grocery stores, home made in a friend's kitchen, on airplanes, on an overnight ferry, at street kiosks, from convenience stores, from a shrink wrapped package, from a buffet, from the hands of master chefs. I am no sushi snob. I have always thought that sushi was one of those foods, like hot dogs and doughnuts, where you can find some that is good and some that is not great, but it is always at least tasty and satisfying. Until tonight. This was bad. I threw half of it away. First time in my life--literally the first time in my life--I have thrown sushi away. My wife went to the fridge and cooked herself something else to eat. A hot dog. The rice was mush. The fish was...inexplicably...not old or bad, but somehow utterly flavorless. What is left? The pickled ginger, which was not bad. But it came from a jar. Soy sauce was fine too. To top it off, we ordered an avocado salad.
