This place is amazing. Highly recommend them! I live down the street from JT's and they've been so helpful over the past few years. Currently, I've been having battery issues. I wasn't sure if the battery was dying or just affected by the extreme cold temps this week and my lack of driving it often. Yesterday, when it wouldn't start, for the second timer his week, I decided it needs a new battery. The problem was, I couldn't start it to go to an auto parts or a repair shop. I called roadside assistance to come out and start me, but it would be a few hours. So I started pricing out and checking stock at my nearby auto parts stores, which both priced me about $200 for the best battery. Yesterday, advanced auto parts said they could put one in for me no problem, but today they say they don't it because of liability, which is understandable. So then I remembered this awesome place up the street from my house! I called and spoke to Frank, who has helped me before and he saved my day! I was able to cancel my roadside assistance request. Frank offered to drive the 2 blocks to my house and start it so I could come have them put a battery in, at no extra charge!! Thank goodness I called them, because it took a lot of extra work someone at an auto parts store may not have been able to deal with. Frank carefully assessed and fixed everything! He went way above and beyond my highest expectations from an auto shop. They even charged me less than what the auto parts store would have, yet provided what I'm assuming is even better service. Bonus, I got to stand in a warm garage and watch as I waited. I plan to continue taking my car here so they can help me keep it in tip top shape! Thanks Frank! ***Side note for all my animal lover friends*** Frank also helped me and some others save an old chow chow who was roaming near the shop last summer. He was kind enough to walk the dog down to my house so I could keep her until Stray Rescue came to pick her up. I'm giving JT's a five Star BECAUSE they're an old school honest auto shop that doesn't up sell you with bogus "required" or a "part" that needs to be serviced or replaced immediately UNLESS IT NEEDS TO BE DONE. I've been utilizing JT's since before it was owned by the current owner and he was the same way. Unlike the other big name auto service shops, these guys will go over options to try too save you money unless it can't be helped due to an expensive part with little to no options. Remember, JT's is not a big name auto servicer or car dealership maintenance shop so unless they have the specific part on hand, you might need to leave it there overnight, but they'll do it right and have your "baby" rolling out as soon as possible. I have two older vehicles and trust them to keep them rolling, that is until the big fed gov decides fossil fuel is outlawed and forces me to drive an EV...well, that's another topic BUT, I'll say support your local shops because they are our neighbors and friends. OMG When I tell you all this place is a Godsend...BELIEVE ME!!! My son has been going through the ringer trying to get his car together for his emission test and has been pure hell until we can across this PHENOMENAL shop. There's a gentleman there by the name of Frank and Frank is a true angel. He made my headache of my situation with this car go away. To me Frank went above and beyond to help me out, but I believe this is normal for him. Frank was honest, hard working and straight forward. Nothing like the other shops who try and take advantage of you. I would just like to thank Frank and let him know he has gained life long customer's right here. I have been going to these guys since 2003. My first experience was dropping a car off cause the AC wasn't working. Thought the compressor might be bad. They checked it out and told me it just needed recharging. From that moment on, they are my goto for any automotive issues that I cannot fix. They have been honest and up front with everything. My car didn't pass safety inspection because of an exhaust leak. Ask how much to fix it, they said, maybe $90? (have to get it up on a lift to look). Had them fix it and it was only $27. read more

I will only take my vehicles to JT's. Even though I have moved further away I still go to JT's because it's worth it. They're knowledgeable, fair priced, won't try to sell you something you don't need, etc. For example, I needed some work done on my truck and Dobb's quoted me $1,100. JT's did it for $450! Save yourself from being scammed and go to JT's and ask for Frank, he knows his shit. read more

My truck had thrown a belt preventing it from being able to drive. I gave JT a call explaining my situation, their tow truck driver was off work but they gave me the number of someone else that they use. I called them and they were there within a hour. We got it to JT's and before the day was over they diagnose the problem and we discussed the options. This all took place on a Friday, by Monday afternoon it was ready to be picked up. The guys here are straight forward. They will walk you through the repairs and what needs to be done. They aren't to expensive either. I own a kia and the car is expensive to fix. They gave me the best deals they could and even though the repair bill was over $900, it wasn't any where close to a dealer repair bill. I've got some more repairs to be done but I've been happy with my experience and will go back again. read more

I rarely take the time to write reviews, but the exemplary customer service at JT's Automotive was so incredible, I just couldn't help it. Me, like most people, are always weary of being taken by car repairmen. It's happened to us all. But the folks at JT's...they might just be one of the good guys. My dad lives nearby and has been a long time customer, but today was my first experience with them. My dad is on a fixed income so he only fixes what absolutely needs to be fixed. He's also super cheap -but he trusts these guys. So, he was in a fender bender earlier this week (other guy's fault) and afterwards wasn't able to start his car. He had JT's tow it. Not only did they call his insurance company for him, they called the other guy's insurance company as well to insure they got my dad a rental car! Who does that?? Oh, BTW, not only is my dad hard of hearing, but English is his second language! And JT's has always remained honest and patient with him. The icing on the cake? I had to drop a package in the mailbox at the corner of the street but it didn't fit. They offered to mail it for me because "the mailman should be here any minute" If you are looking for an honest repair shop in south St. Louis city, JT's is my vote. read more

What a way to start a Memorial Day Weekend! Early in May, my husband and I purchased some tires from JT's Automotive. We paid by check. Unfortunately, the check bounced on 5/7/13. But JT's bank redeposit the check on 5/10/13 and it went through along with a $25 surcharge for the return. So today my husband gets a call from JT's claiming that the tires have been recalled and they need to look at them. So my husband goes down there.... But alas, it was a trick to get him down there so that John can treat him like a criminal and threaten to take the tires back because he believes that he hasn't been paid. Also, he embarrassed my sweetheart in front of his staff and other customers by saying, " I don't want another check from him!" After getting me on the phone, I read to him what our bank statement says....and low-and-behold....he then sees that he has been paid. But he doesn't think that he got the $25 extra. So to make peace, I asked my husband to run to the nearest ATM and return with cash. After John found that he had been paid, he began to apologize. When my husband returned with the cash, John was no where to found. I can only guess that he hiding out. I don't believe that we will EVER return to JT's. Treating customer in this manner is unacceptable. No one should ever be tricked into giving up money just to appease a mechanic or anyone else. So now we have paid $50 for a returned check. I don't suggest anyone darkening their door. There has to be a better mechanic in this city. read more
