I have never dealt with a more predatory or unethical towing operation. When I returned, my car was gone and a brand‑new sign had been installed on that same pole. I was not the only one: several other people were standing around just as confused, staring at a freshly installed sign and missing cars. It felt like the tow company waited until cars were parked, put up a sign afterward, and then immediately towed every vehicle in the lot. When I called the number on the newly placed sign, I reached an extremely rude employee who was clearly overwhelmed...understandably, because every person in that lot was calling the same number about their missing cars. We were all given the same story: our vehicles had been "taken to STL PD to be registered" and then would be towed to an unknown lot. Shockingly, the employee couldn't (or wouldn't) tell any of us where that lot was. This felt like part of a scheme to delay giving out the location long enough to force people into paying overnight fees. I'm persistent, so I kept calling back. Twenty minutes later, I was given the same story. When I asked which police station, she reluctantly told me South STL PD. I called that station directly, and the officer I spoke with immediately told me my car had never been there and helpfully looked up where it actually was: Hartmann Auto Center & Wrecker at 3301 Sublette Ave. When I called back with that information, the employee insisted the police officer was "lying" and that she couldn't guarantee I'd get my car that night. The moment I said I was on my way, suddenly she could get it for me- but only if I paid $500 cash and cash only. Once I arrived, the story shifted again- she claimed my car wouldn't arrive until 10:30 pm. It was 9:15. But as soon as I confirmed I had cash, my car magically appeared on a tow truck two minutes later. This directly contradicted all the earlier claims that they "didn't know" where my vehicle was. Inside, the employees became hostile the moment I mentioned that refusing card payments seemed questionable. There was a credit‑card machine visible on the counter, yet they refused to use it. When I asked basic questions or requested empathy, they escalated, threatened to keep my car until Monday, and even tried to kick me out while I was standing there with the money ready. Ultimately, the $500 cash disappeared straight into an employee's pocket, and I walked away feeling like I had no choice but to comply. There was no professionalism, no transparency, and no respect. Just intimidation and frustration. I feel genuinely sorry for anyone whose vehicle was towed from that lot that night- many of them probably still didn't know where their cars were. Scroll the reviews; I'm clearly not the only one describing an experience like this. I truly believe this business needs to be investigated.

Unfortunately my minivan has a deflated spare, but not a portable air compressor. I was a little stressed, being 3 hours from home and not knowing how to handle the situation. The roadside assistance through my insurance showed Hartmann's was the closest towing company/auto center, so I went with it. I'm so thankful I did. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The gentleman that came to my rescue was incredibly kind. He got my spare aired up and put, then called the shop to see if they could help me out with the proper tire. Once I got to the shop, everyone there was so nice. The gentleman in the shop could have easily told me I needed a new tire and I wouldn't have known the difference, but he worked to find the issue and plugged it, which was a much cheaper option to get me back on the road. He also looked over my other tires and found a screw in another tire. I told him if it wasn't leaking air to just leave it and I would get it taken care of at home, but he didn't want to risk me getting stranded again on the way home, so he plugged that one as well for no additional charge and added air to the rest of my tires to ensure I would make it back safely. The whole encounter felt like I was back in my small town dealing with the generational family owned tire shop there. Good folks. I would recommend them to any and everyone.
