Friendly Crossways - Merry Christmas from Friendly Crossways!

Friendly Crossways

(30 reviews)

(This is on behalf of members of the retreat planning team of Moishe Kavod House)…read more We had our annual retreat at Friendly Crossways. It was a wonderful place for our community to come together, be out of the city, and relax! Mary Helan was SOO very very helpful in for months in advance of the retreat, during the retreat and post retreat. She was wonderful to work with and extremely patient. The facility was beautiful and allowed for a variety of activities, including a huge outdoor field! Overall, it was a wonderful weekend, and we really enjoyed the space.

I recently attended a wedding at the Friendly Crossways and although I had a great weekend with…read morefamily and friends, I think my perspective is different than most of the previous reviewers. As others mentioned there were no other options close by in the Harvard area to stay, so we decided to stay on site (even though I tried to find alternative arrangements). We arrived on Friday and found our room, which had only twin beds (the same for almost all rooms) but were yet to receive our linens (sheets/towels/pillow cases). We did get those later and as another reviewer mentioned they were very worn. You could also not bring in your own pillows or linens (as I had brought) and the party would be fined if they saw you doing so. The bathroom/showers which I saw were pretty outdated and dingy (except the ones near the front door which appear to be newer). They weren't unclean, but were just in desperate need of some TLC. We were also informed of a strict 5 minute shower policy which there are signs posted for in the bathroom. As most have said, it is very much a DIY venue, even so far as to washing your own dishes throughout the weekend. We did help out with a lot throughout the weekend which was fun helping our friends set up their wedding and be a part of it, but many times we would need to ask Mary or Keith (the owners of the property) for assistance or direction with a given task. Most of the time they were very friendly and helpful, but not all the time. I certainly understand they have a job to do, and tasks the Bride/Groom set up for them, and that helping me wasn't on their priority list, but at least be a little bit pleasant because we are paying you to be there. I would have to agree that the food they provided was excellent, and they were able to meet the needs of many dietary issues in our group. If I was reviewing only their food it would be 5 stars, no question. They used fresh ingredients and were very passionate about what came out of the kitchen. The other issue was the firewood. We were lectured that it was to be a "camp fire" and not a "bonfire". We were only provided with about 6 tiny pieces of wood to keep the fire going for our allotted 2 hours...and NO wood was to be put on after 11pm as the fire had to be completely out by midnight... It was nice to be able to just walk back to my room after the wedding/reception. The ceremony was beautiful set back under the trees on the lawn. If you are looking for a DIY wedding where you have to do just about everything for set up and break down then this is probably your place.

Planning a wedding in New Hampshire while living in DC is no easy feat. That's why we called in…read morePhebe at Making ME Event Planning Firm and never looked back. Phebe is the queen of vintage and romantic design. She totally got the vibe we were going for, took the ball and ran with it. She had wonderful recommendations on how to save money, and even did many DIY projects on our behalf (glazing mason jars anyone?). One of her great recommendations was getting flowers from Whole Foods, which I would guess saved us at least $1,000. Phebe was always accessible via phone and email whenever we needed her. She kept us on track with checklists and reminders of things we needed to do. We had a shared Pinterest board that I kept filling with ideas, so I always felt involved. In the end, our wedding day was absolutely perfect. I didn't stress one bit knowing Phebe was in charge. Our guests are still raving about how well designed and uniquely personalized our wedding was. We owe tons of thanks to Phebe and her team for Making ME a happy bride.

My husband Mike and I used Making ME Event Planning for our wedding this past September, and I must…read moresay I honestly do not know how I could have gotten married without Phebe. This is coming from an absolute and udder control freak. Once Phebe was on our team, she kept up with my husband and I, months prior to the wedding, to make sure we were accomplishing every little detail associated with getting married and making sure our vision of what our special day would look like came out. She also kept both Mike and I engaged in the entire process, this was a HUGE plus! Alot of planners we talked to, would only talk to me, that did not sit well with Mike and I. Her professionalism and team made working with her an absolute dream come true. A few days before the wedding, Phebe came over to go over our final production list, that listed hour by hour what would be going on, where each of us should be. It really put both Mike and I at ease because we knew that we could put the entire wedding, one of the most important days of our lives, into the hands of Phebe and her team. The morning of our wedding, Phebe called both my husband and I to make sure we were up and going and if there was anything last minute that we needed. That morning while we got ready Phebe went to the reception hall to make sure everything was set up correctly, and make sure everything was running smoothly. Once we got to the church, Phebe came out to the limo to notify me of a few problems that she wanted to check with me on. Apparently the florist had dropped the ball and put red bows in place of orange bows down the aisle, and had forgotten the rose petals for a big exit. Phebe said no worries she would remove the bows, and during the ceremony she ran over to the local grocery store to purchase roses so we could still have our big exit. That exit ended up being one of my favorite photos from the entire day and it only happened because of Phebe. Phebe also ran interference on some issues that I did not even know happened until I got back from my Honeymoon, including upset guests about seating arrangements, helping me with my 62 tie bustle, making sure my husband and I were where we needed to be at all times, making sure we both ate and were well hydrated, and making sure our vendors had a go to person besides my husband and I. I could honestly go on and go for hours about Making ME Event Planning, Phebe, and her staff. My husband and I are so blessed to have had her there in our corner so we could concentrate on what was important, enjoying our friends and family on an amazing day, that was filled with love and happiness, and honestly not an once of drama because of Phebe. I cannot recommended her and her team enough! And I can promise you, if you hire Making ME Event Planning, you will understand from the first time you talk to Phebe, exactly how special and wonderful it is to work with her.
