I normally avoid domestic airlines for international trips but I found 2 economy tickets on United…read morefor points from SNA - BCN for our 2026 Barcelona - Lisbon trip. So I paid in points and a total of about $11.20 in taxes for both tickets, which was pretty good. We flew out of SNA which was convenient. While we had an hour and a half layover in SFO, I figured we'd make it with time to spare. While our flight from SNA - SFO, was delayed, we left a half hour or so later than intended and I figured we'd maybe make up some time in the air. It was nice to have Starlink WiFi on this short flight for free but that's where the nice amenities end. We landed exactly when our flight to BCN started boarding and the flight attendants made an announcement asking the rest of the passengers to let us off the plane first because we needed to run from the terminal we arrived in to the international terminal on the other side of the airport. Easy, right?! Well, it was definitely a run. My husband and I hightailed it, while the other 4 passengers who were also booked on our flight tailed behind. Unfortunately, one of the passengers with us needed mobility assistance. They did wait for us and we made it to the gate just as they were about to close the doors. The other unfortunate thing was that we had to gate check our carry-ons as they overbooked the flight and it was full; therefore, the overhead bins were full and passengers were fighting for overhead space. Once onboard, we settled in and realized that there was no free WiFi other than the onboard entertainment. Why offer free Starlink on the domestic flights and make people pay for the international legs? I only ask because Air France gave us free Starlink over the Atlantic when we flew from CDG - LAX when we headed home after this same vacation. As for the food, let me just say the food was TERRIBLE. It was barely edible. I had the chicken cacciatore while my husband asked for the beef pot roast entree. The chicken was rubbery and seemed more suspect than a McDonald's reconstituted chicken nugget. The beef was tender but texturally felt wrong. Their bread rolls are served cold so they were rock hard. The butter was cold and hard. We hoped the breakfast would be better. It was barely better. The breakfast eggs were almost powdery and the worst I'd ever had. The breakfast sausage had grill marks but it was clear that they "steamed" it in their galley kitchen before serving. The other option was dollar pancakes but I was really wanting some protein and the options were terrible. Why is the food not edible? I swear the United executives need to eat the food in order to know that they are serving slop to their customers. Our flight arrived later than scheduled due to the SF delay. We could not get off the plane any faster. However, we made it off the plane and my husband vows to never fly internationally on United Airlines again. At least our gate-checked luggage made it to the carousel in BCN.

Since…read moreI had some days to spare, I decided to book a last-minute flight from LA to Miami to meet her. I was able to find a red-eye flight. I had low expectations for this airline, but fortunately, the flight was not bad at all. The seats were okay in comfort. It is true that most things are a-la-carte on this airline. However, I appreciate getting a large bottle of water, as opposed to the small cups other airlines give me. The food and snacks were okay in quality, and I appreciate them actually having good on this overnight flight, as other airlines (ahem, American Airlines) do not stock food on their overnight flights. The crowd, for the most part, was not too bad. In fact, only one old salt on my row had some attitude, but that was put down fast. The arrival at Miami airport was on time, and baggage claim took a reasonable amount of time. Looking back, I would not rule out flying on Spirit if I had to. The experience was decent.

So now I'm paying to save lives???? Lastly to talk to an agent for modifications you get charged 30$ just for the assistance they provided!! A really interesting, mixed experience with Avelo, and it almost seems pointless to review them now…read morethat they left the West Coast. I will try to mix this review as both the company as a whole, and the Burbank location, as I had a much better experience with the location in Arcata, CA. Firstly, the price. Man oh man, there is absolutely no better price for an airline ticket that I have experienced since. I believe I had a $15 round-trip ticket from Burbank to McKinleyville and back once. That alone would give them a 5 star, no questions asked. And if I had reviewed them directly after my first few flights, this would be 5 stars. Let me get to the negatives, and circle back to the positives. My main concern was my most-recent visit to the Burbank location, and obviously the last one I will ever do because they closed (I even had a ticket to use that they cancelled on my with no warning but that's a separate issue). Active-duty military get two free checked bags. At the time I was active-duty, and this wasn't my first time using my military ID with them, and the other few times went off without any hitch whatsoever. But this time, the lady at the checked bag area said that my ID said an incorrect birthday. To her credit, the DOB is printed in black, and it overlays the black and white photo of me on it, so it's hard to see. She confused the 5 in "1995" for a 6, and said that my ID is invalid. I told her if she looked harder it is obviously a 5, but she accused me of essentially having confirmation bias and only seeing a 5 because I want there to be a 5. It's a government issued ID I was using for years to that point to get onto literal military bases. She then said I had to pay for my luggage. The problem with that is she is essentially accusing me of having a fake ID, military no-less. That's a federal crime, so if she truly believed that, she should have called the police. But instead it was just grounds for not wanting to give me a bag check. The ironic part of the "confirmation bias" is funny because she would ask a coworker and instead of saying, "what number do you think this is?" She would instead ask "This looks like a 6, right?" What coworker would say anything other than yes? After asking to see someone higher up (probably the only time I have ever done that in my life actually), one eventually came and saw me, told me my ID was good, gave me a checked bag, and just recommended I asked to military to issue me a new ID with a more clear 5. They never did because it was obviously a 5 and that would count as wasting time. I was worried the entire trip about the checked bags for the plane ride home, but it went off literally without a hitch. I guess that happens when people can tell the difference between a 5 and a 6. My last point that I want to bring up is that I had one more round-trip planned with them, but the cleared out of the West Coast way earlier than they said they would. That meant they gave me a flight credit of roughly $100 for an airline I could never use again. It took me many back-and-forths with the customer support team to finally get that money back not as a credit, but they eventually did it. So mainly, this airline was mostly pretty good, but gave me one very sour experience where they implied that I was some criminal, but not only criminal enough to not give something they said they would. That experience was a one star, most of the experiences are in the 4-5 star range, but the dishonest early closing brings them down to a 3, which I would argue should be a 2 but like I said, I got a $15 round trip once. That is amazing!

I have flown with KLM before and generally had a good experience, but unfortunately, this trip was…read morea major letdown. My family's luggage was left behind in Amsterdam, which was especially frustrating after an already stressful connection. KLM booked us on a connecting flight from Amsterdam to LAX with less than an hour to make the connection. Once we landed, we had to run what felt like about a mile and a half to get to a very far terminal and gate. By the time we arrived, we were exhausted and barely made it. Given how tight the connection was, I am not surprised our luggage didn't make it onto the flight with us, but still by principle it should have. What made it even more frustrating was arriving at baggage services and finding that the representative already had a list of around 20 passengers whose luggage had been left behind and it would not arrive until the following day. Clearly, this was not an isolated issue. I understand that luggage delays can happen, but when the airline schedules such an incredibly short connection, especially in a large airport like Amsterdam, it feels like the situation could have been avoided. KLM should have provided a more realistic layover that gave both passengers and their luggage enough time to make the connection. Hopefully our luggage arrives as promised, but this experience definitely left a bad impression. I might consider flying them again, but I hope they take a closer look at how they are scheduling these tight connections.

WiFi was $8 for Mileage Plus members; I demurred, choosing to spend my time reading a novel using the Kindle app on my Samsung S26. The meal was okay ... Breakfasts on any domestic airline is so-so as a rule and this one was no exception. It was supposed to be Creamy Scrambled Eggs ... Uh, what was supposed to be eggs tasted like cauliflower. The best part of the meal was the fruit plate and the warm croissant. The flight left on time and arrived early. So far, so good. My return flight to Honolulu (UA 1170) was on a 777-200. I'd forgotten the weird seating arrangement in first-class (2-2-2); I was in 1B, so I faced the passenger in 1C. Unfortunately, there was a problem with the flight computer, so we left LA an hour late (6:05pm). The meal I chose was Korean BBQ Glazed short rib. It was served with a nice salad and fried rice. This meal was better than breakfast on the outgoing leg. All in all, a decent flying experience. Ratings: 757: 2.5, food: 2.75, service: 4.5; 777: 3.75, food: 3.5, service: 5 (out of 5).

The flight was about 5 hours and included a snack service with choice of pretzels, a chocolate quinoa cookie or a stroopwafel. There were also two drink services on my flight out, which was nice for a longer flight. Interestingly, my return flight had only one drink service. One downside for me was the lack of seatback TVs. United does offer free in flight entertainment through your own personal device, but I found the Wi-Fi to be pretty spotty. It kept cutting in and out and it made it hard to watch a movie without interruption. Overall, I'd say United is a decent option for getting from Los Angeles to the DC area. The service was good, and I appreciated the snack and drink options, but I definitely wish the Wi-Fi was more reliable for the in-flight entertainment or that their planes would have seatback entertainment for 5+ hour flights.

No lounge service unless you have a certain credit card, but I don't fly domestic enough to make it worth it. I paid more to experience better service; get on and off the plane first; larger, roomier seats in the front cabin; and meals, snacks, and drinks included. I did obtain good service. The breakfasts did not rock my world however. The quiche was pretty good. The yogurt that was served on both flights was flavorless, and I don't like thick, flavorless food in general. No fault of Delta, but I had to endure the same family to and from New Orleans. The parents were traveling with two small, obstreperous children. It wasn't enjoyable. The entire family was not seated together on either flight, but both boys wanted to be seated with mom, which made for an active flight to say the least.
