I've used J. doggy spa for over a year to groom my Norwich Terrier. The owner, Jae, is so friendly, professional, and gentle with my dog, Nugget. Nugget's not the easiest dog to groom because she squirms and moves a lot, but she always comes back perfectly groomed and calm. During COVID-19, my dog's former groomer in NJ went out of business. While eating lunch next door, I decided to check out this groomer. The owner/ groomer is very friendly and great with dogs. Mine tends to be a bit anxious around new people; he came out of his grooming appointment excited but not panting. His cut was very well done and just what I wanted! Winnie is a sweet dog otherwise, but I have had to pick her up mid-groom twice from other places due to her aggression. But J is amazing, and Winnie is actually excited to see her (though she is still not good with grooming). I know she is very patient with her, gives her treats, let's her play/take breaks, and cares a lot about the health and safety of my dog. And as a bonus, she is super flexible and accommodating. I have paid a little extra for the extra time and attention Winnie needs, but it's worth every penny and I've come back many times now! read more

First time at this spa and it was a great experience! The owner/groomer is a super nice lady and very good with dogs. Since it was Meeko's first trip she took the time to let him get familiar with the place and her. Meeko got the full service and came back wonderfully groomed. She even gave a nice doggy toothbrush! I tried this grooming salon for the first time. I asked for a teddy bear cut for my poodle. I get a call thirty minutes into the appointment and the groomer told me they'd have to demat my dog 'cause the undercoat was matted. Okay, understandable, not sure what dematting meant but I assumed that they were going to get rid of the mats on my dog and that we won't be able to get the teddy bear cut. At that point, I was trusting the groomer to do a good job. Maybe cut my dog's fur so that it would look proportionate to his body and face after the dematting? Oh boy was I wrong. I went to pick up my dog after getting a call and I'm met with a bobble head on steroids. I tell the groomer I'm discontent with the cut, they gave me excuses and THEN gave me a backhanded apology. I paid and left, and I get a call from the groomer. They tell me the SAME EXCUSES and asked when I groomed my dog prior to this appointment. I told them three weeks ago, when in reality it was eight weeks ago; I had mistaken my time judgment because I had washed my dog at home three weeks ago. The previous grooming (going to the salon, and getting a cut and everything) took place 8 weeks ago. The groomer told me that the previous salon I went to didn't demat my dog properly which is why there was so much matting within "three weeks" of this appointment. Their words, paraphrased, were "it would make sense if these mats were present if the last time you groomed your dog was at least six weeks ago, but since it's only been three weeks, that means that the previous salon probably didn't demat your dog". That was the reason why they decided to proceed with the dematting. They even told me they had at least ten years of experience in grooming...please explain to me how ten years of experience made my dog look like dobby the house elf? Also received another backhanded apology towards the END of the call. So now I know that the previous salon was doing a great job with cutting and dematting while also making my dog NOT LOOK LIKE A BOBBLEHEAD, and the current groomer is just trying to blame others for their mediocre job/lack of ability to demat a dog without shaving off ALL the body fur. I understand that dematting is important for a dog and necessary if needed, but at least make the head proportionate to the body. My dog now has a square-ish head with a skinny body. And worst of all, my dog has been acting differently after this appointment. He's scared and trying to hide himself by going underneath the sofa, his tail is down, and he's shivering (could be due to the lack of body fur as a result of the grooming, but that in itself says a lot, huh?). If you want your dog to look like a bobble head with uneven fur proportions for $80, you should definitely come here. Never again. read more
