This was one of the worst grooming experiences I've ever had -- and I deeply regret trusting Jay at Head to Tail with my dog, Coco. Before the grooming, I clearly showed Jay a photo of how I wanted Coco to be groomed. I told him I wanted her face and ears just slightly shorter than the photo. But instead, he shaved her head down to match the short length of her body -- without explaining what he meant. The result? Coco looked nothing like herself. I didn't even recognize my own dog. Who in their right mind shaves a standard poodle's face that short? I also told Jay specifically to trim the body short, but not so short that her skin would show. And yet, he shaved her so close that her skin is completely visible -- something I absolutely did not agree to. It looks terrible and clearly shows he didn't listen to a single thing I said. But it gets worse. After we got home, I noticed Coco obsessively licking her paw. When I checked, I saw that her dewclaw had been cut way too short -- it was bleeding, and they had tried to cover it up with styptic powder. I immediately called the head to tail Jay first pretended not to know anything, but only admitted to it when I described the situation in detail. No accountability until he was caught. And as if that wasn't enough, her ears weren't even cleaned properly. She's been shaking her head constantly and is clearly in pain. This is complete negligence. After the grooming, I noticed a wound in Coco's armpit area. This is not what a $150 grooming service includes tip should look like and II trusted them with my dog's safety and well-being, and they completely failed on every level. I will never go back, and I strongly warn others -- especially poodle owners -- to stay away from at Head to Tail. read more

It my first time trying this place and everything went so smoothly. They were very nice when I asked questions, and also very thorough and specific when asking for what type of haircut I wanted for my pup. The groomers gave her an adorable haircut! This is a new groomer for me and I was pretty excited to get my girl Coco in for a cut and style. The store is closed during pandemic and there are cones outside for line control. But I think they are spacing appointments out to enforce social distancing so I was the only one in line. I think it was about $70 all in with grooming, anal glands and a teeth brushing (which was another $5) and tax. Tipping additional of course. I wish her ears and tail were kept long, as requested, and that the cut was smoother but not too upset as hair grows. She came out with a ribbon tied around her neck and looking cute. read more

Terrible Job from Head to Tail :( Awful place, awful service, awful haircut. My pups haircut summarized 1. They deeply lacerated his hind left leg 2. I asked that they not touch his tail 5 times and they still ignored that and shaved his tail 3. I asked that they leave the hair on his head long, and they didn't listen and shaved his head 4. They shaved his face and left 2 bald spots in between his eyes 5. He came back with an ear infection I had airdropped pictures of the look that I wanted as well as explained this in great detail and had them reiterate it back to me. Everyone at the store admitted it was an awful haircut but would only apologize. If you love your pet DO NOT bring them here. I've been bringing our dog here for about a year now and they do an awesome job grooming her! I am specific in what I'd like her to have done and they take notes, and remember for next time. The best part is that they have a daycare option where they'll keep her for a total of 6 hours (including the grooming) without charging you for daycare--anything more, you'd have to pay but still, that is a great deal!! My only gripe is that they dont have a camera we can access in the daycare but that's not even that big of a deal. This is definitely our go-to place for our grooming and daycare needs. read more

Unsafe environment for cats - endangered my cat. I brought my cat here to get her nails clipped back in November - it was my first time bringing her to a groomer and I just wanted to try it out. They brought my cat downstairs to the grooming station and told me to wait upstairs. When they took my cat out of her carrier, they let my cat escape because the door to the grooming area was open, and my cat escaped into a tiny dark hole in the back of the boiler room. It was at this point when my cat already escaped that they called me down. It was impossible to get my cat out of the hole she climbed into - a human physically could not fit. Luckily, I was the one who spotted a door into the hole (the staff was unaware of this door) and I was the one who had to take my cat out of this hole as well. It was very disappointing that this groomer was an unsafe environment for cats and they do not have safety protocols. I think maybe a dog would've been fine as there was a dog gate at the boiler room entrance, but it can easily be bypassed by a cat. Do not bring your cats here. This is not a groomer that should be assisting cats. After bringing my cat back home, she was unwell for at least two weeks from the trauma. I write this review because I don't want cat owners to come here expecting their cat to be safe and cared for. This is a dangerous place. read more

Wow! My husband and I went to various grooming places in the area, but the Head to Tail groomer, Danny, did a fantastic job! Instead of saying they needed to shave our dog short (which is what usually happens when a salon doesn't want to deal with de-matting some fur), they carefully listened to the style and cut we wanted and did their best in making him look cute! My dog can be anxious and nippy at times, but they patiently brushed through everything and gave him a cute cut. I have never been more satisfied with a grooming salon in this area. The only place that we've ever been to that actually cut it the way we like was in Korea, so I'm so thankful to FINALLY have found a place locally in NJ! The staff is very nice/professional and gave us a gift bag because we were first time customers. It included two big toys and a treat. Our dog Rufus LOVES everything! Lastly and importantly, the price was GREAT. More affordable than other locations in the area. Thank you so much Head to Tail! You will definitely see us soon. read more

Be careful using this place - I was going here for a couple years and everything was wonderful.....but suddenly the people at the front desk and some of the groomers changed in the last 6 months and it is a totally different experience......they seem really out of it and unorganized at the front desk. They mumble and you have to repeat yourself many times. THey had to go downstairs several times to get my dogs. They don't seem to know who my dogs are or that I have two dogs (even though I just dropped them off). They gave me the wrong report card for another dog. They brought up one of my dogs with both leashes on and a double leash.....they forgot to bring the other dog up. I am terrified they are going to hurt one of my dogs eventually. They seem really careless and completely out of it at the front desk. read more

We rescued a stray cat from our porch, so she is extremely skittish. She is a beautiful, long-haired calico and was shedding like crazy. I looked up cat groomers in the area and found Head to Tail. I had a great experience with them and will definitely be a repeat customer! I was so impressed! They managed to give her a full groom, including a lion's cut, as well as nail cutting, bathing, and more. She even had a cute bow on when I went to go pick her up! The employees were all very friendly and understanding when I had to reschedule multiple times due to not being able to get the cat into the cage. They were also able to recommend a supplement for my cat which I was able to purchase in store. I will definitely bring my cat back again when she is due for another fur cut! read more

In my opinion I would not recommend this grooming facility to anyone that loves their pet. I took my 5 lib yorkie for full service on Saturday and by Tuesday I had to rush him to the vet, because his anal glands ( which is part of the package I paid for)and was not done and never stated that it wasn't done so I can take precautions so he wouldn't have to go through the pain and suffering he is experiencing due to his anal glands exploding. When I tried to resolve this issue with the facility I was told it was not their issue and they would not be taking Any responsibility. No apologies,or empathy was expressed for what my pet and I are going through because of their neglagence.If I didn't take him in when I did I could have lost my fur baby. Does this look like a $100 haircut?! You tell me. [Note: Pictures were taken immediately after cut.] Someone from our town recommended this place and we are new here, so we figured we'd give it a go. Our pup Murphy is very active so our vet suggested we trim him down short to help alleviate some of his allergies and let him quick dry when he jumps in and out of rivers while hiking. I called to make an appointment and spoke with someone on the phone who quoted me $65-75, but explained it could fluctuate based on the work. When we got there, we explained what we wanted to the guy checking him in - short body down to about an inch with fluffy feet, tail and head all blended in. When I first picked him up 2.5 hours later, he looked great but he was basically just trimmed up all over with long hair throughout which is not what we asked for. They ended up charging me $95 before tip and while I don't have a problem with this, it's a lot of money for something completely different than we asked for. We explained that we had requested shorter cut and that it is needed for the summer due to the dog's lifestyle and allergy issues. They told us to bring him back and that they would shorten up the body. Honestly, they must have been annoyed that we complained because they clearly took it out on our terrified dog. The basically shaved him WAY down (less than 1/2") everywhere except his legs and head. We wouldn't care at this point, except that it is choppy with some long patches in random places. The WORST however is that they simply shaved up to a certain point at the head and at the top of his legs and simply stopped, leaving him with a hard line at each point. We specifically asked for it to be blended, but at this point with the Pup coming out of there shaking and over it, we didn't want to continue to torture him. The cut was more than we pay for our haircuts! I have no problem spending the money on great grooming; I know it is hard work. But I could've EASILY given him this chop up myself and then I could have at least left it a bit longer so he doesn't look like hacked up chicken. Not to mention, I will have to touch it up where the patches are and blend out the legs and head. In general the customer service was shaky - we asked for an add-on teeth cleaning, but when I picked him up I was told they didn't do it. When we asked if they charged us for it, the guy went to check only to tell us that they did do it since they charged us for it and he must have forgotten to mark it on the paper. Unclear if his teeth got cleaned or not- my receipt was not itemized, so who knows what I was even charged for. I don't know where the communication breakdown was happening but it felt like whatever we asked for did not get communicated to the groomer. Regardless, no one would look at that cut and think it was professionally done. Listen, I know my pup is a handsome boy and that his beautiful coat will be back. But I simply can't believe they would let him walk out of there like this AFTER I had already paid so much. read more

Our cat was there for a routine grooming session, I get a call from the stores manager (Franklin) informing me that our cat has been acting a little unusual and that its recommend I take her to the vet. 30 minutes later I get another call from Franklin saying that our cat needs to be taken to the ER and he wanted to join. He suggested that maybe her leg got sprained during the grooming session. When we saw the cat she was dragging her lower body with her upper body. Which clearly indicated that her leg was not sprained. After going to the ER the cats x rays showed that her femur was broken in 3 different places. We demanded to know exactly what happened, after Franklin spoke to the groomer (Michelle) we were told she jumped out of the sink and broke her leg at landing. Franklin tried to make our cat look aggressive by saying that the groomer (Michelle) only got a couple scratches from the situation. The first thing you do when grooming a cat is cut the nails. So that immediately indicated that Michelle does not know how to properly groom cats. We then spend 13 hours looking for a hospital that would take our cat in for surgery. Her case was so severe that she needed an orthopedic specialist to conduct her surgery. The hospitals that saw her all indicated that her injuries could not have happened from just a fall! We finally found a hospital an hour and half away that was able to take her in for surgery. They informed us that our cat may have to get her leg amputated or may have complications where we might have to put her down! ALL because of negligence from the groomer (Michelle). Before our cat went into surgery the Dr needed to know exactly what happened. We asked for security footage and were only given 5 seconds of our cat jumping out of the sink. There was no indication of her breaking her leg in the video. Based on the footage the cat was not harnessed and there was no grip mat on the floor. Their equipment was not up to safety standards. The cat had to go through a very rough surgery but thankfully it was successful. She has multiple plates and screws. She will never be able to walk, run and jump the same again. She has to stay in confinement for 12 weeks before even attempting to walk again. The manager (Franklin) notified us that the owner (Sarah) was going to take care of the hospital bill. She was very hard to reach and communicate with. She would take hours and even days to respond. She ended up only paying a portion of the bill when we picked our cat up from the ER. She kept telling us that her insurance was going to cover the rest of the bill. After a constant back and forth we signed a release form with her insurance company to release her from any liability and future expenses. We finally got a check in the mail from her insurance company paying the full hospital bill. Which does not cover future follow up appointments. This business needs a lot of work to better their conditions. I don't recommend you bringing your pet here because they don't follow safety measurements and precautions read more
