Pretty damn good selection and especially helpful staff. My only complaint is it was a bit loud for a cigar lounge, but that could have been because someone had the TV turned too loud to their sport of choice, which was indoor golf of all things! I'm not a fan of the barrel chairs as they're a bit uncomfortable, but it's a small price to pay for everything else you get. read more

Kept passing by the place on the way to work. So Friday I decided to try them out. Bought four cigars (Tatiana Groovy Blue, Leather Rose, M.J. Frias Cherry Bomb, and GTO sweet tip) and another torch. Went to my event Friday night around 8:30. Opened up my first cigar (GTO) and it unraveled. Wasn't pleased with that because that's the one I wanted most because I haven't had one in a while. Warm, friendly, welcoming, and knows his stuff about cigars. Stopped in for a couple of cigars and came out with much more. I almost never write reviews. But I'm so shocked there aren't more reviews written about J's Cigars, I felt I needed to add to the small pile of Five Stars he's racked-up. Every time I've come, I've been greeted by one of the most pleasant people I've ever met. It is an absolute pleasure to speak with J. He is kind, generous (gave me two free cigars on my very first visit and offered to feed me if I wanted to stick around a bit), gracious, and is always in a great mood with a big smile on his face. There is a reason I'm writing first about the man. J is the best part about coming to buy cigars, which is quite a statement when you consider the other two most important questions you face when you're picking out a place to buy cigars! Let's face it. There are far more places to buy cigars than there were 30 years ago. One consequence of that is competition. Prices tend to be more competitive, because of it. Even prices online are often no better than at a local shop. J's is a perfect example. When you're ready to restock your humidor, price is often your first consideration. Sometimes it's selection, like when there are two or more of you going to grab one or two for a night out or 18 holes. Personally, price wins the war for me over selection, because I can enjoy a variety of smokes. I do have a "regular everyday" cigar, but I also like variety. So, I'm not that bothered when a shop doesn't have the one I came for. J's Cigars wins both wars though, price and selection. Every time I go, there is something on special, and J's always has a large selection. If you're in one of those moods where you don't want to have to make another decision that day, don't come to J's. The selection is like sensory overload. Of course, I'm joking about the not coming. I'm just doing so to make a point. J is always ready to guide you to the right smoke, with just a couple of questions. Are you in the mood for a light or heavy smoke? How long do you want to smoke, one hour? Two? I've lived in Atlanta just more than a year. When I first visited J's, it was my "Eureka" moment. I knew then and there, I wouldn't buy anywhere else. Atlanta's best kept secret. This is not a cigar shop, but an experience. Jay exudes so much warmth and hospitality it feels like an extension of your living room. Late night smokers he is usually open til the last game is over around midnight. He serves an array of coffee and at times wonderful desserts from scratch that are to die for. Love this place. Jay is one of those people that never meets a stranger. As soon as you walk in the door you really feel like a part of the family. He'll probably introduce you to the rest of his customers, who he knows by name. You just don't find this type of purveyor every day. My only qualm is that they do not sell alcohol. J's is not your standard tobacco shop. It feels more like a neighborhood spot, minus the alcohol. J the owner makes you feel welcome, and will probably even give you a hug. He actually is a retired engineer and it was his dream to open up this shop. His shop is at the corner of Defoor Hills and Collier, with ample parking and restaurants near-by. Inside the shop is spotless, with leather couches, a flat screen tv, free wifi, tables, and several chess sets laid out. The humidor keeps his stock in good condition and has a large selection (Romeo y Julieta, Montecristo) of great value cigars. There is also a large stock of loose tobacco for pipes he sells them as well. Not sure what else I say- this is a great place for relaxing and getting work done. read more

This may be one the greatest cigar experiences in Atlanta. Not only is the humidor well-stocked and rather large, the staff is highly knowledgable and incredibly friendly. On more than one occasion, "J" himself has offered us handmade deserts during our visit. The prices are exactly what they should be. The folks are hospitable. The tv's are large. Five-star review for the nicest people, friendliest shop and great selection of cigars. I read the yelp reviews in my hotel and set out for a long walk to Jay's shoppe. I walked in, and was greeted with an ice cold bottle of water and a great group of guys. The selection and prices are good but again don't miss the chance to meet J and the guys in the shoppe. He is always extremely helpful, kind, generous, and most of all grateful for your business. There is a reason that I drive from Southeast Atlanta all the way up to West Midtown whenever I need to refill my humidor. Just had the best retail experience I have had in YEARS at a place called J's Cigars on Defoors Ferry Road -- this is a very unassuming little place in a dumpy strip mall. I walked in and wasn't expecting much, but I left thrilled by the experience. I'm VERY new to the concept of cigars and the owner J. Nadimi took about a half hour learning about me and my tastes to help me pick out a few selections he thought I would like. He took time to educate me on the different types and cuts of cigars and even about how they are made. Plus, he loaded me up with several extras (at no charge) he thought I should try. J's cigars are without doubt the best lounge I go to, infact its the only one. J's has the best prices in town. His Padrons are the lowest in the nation! His atmosphere I really like because there are many college students and other young adults who go there, a pleasent susprise for someone who has been to plenty other lounges just saw older men. J's offers free wi-fi for in house smokers, he also has a expresso machine and serves persian tea as well. J also has a selection of pipe tobacco as well. Actually found this cigar shop on Yelp and what a diamond in the rough! It's a small and quaint spot...in a little shopping center which could easily be missed. The owner was there and he's so helpful and sweet! He even gave us a cigar punch since we told him we were from out of town. We ran across J's Cigars for the first time last night on our way home after a filling dinner. Incredible, incredible service and place. My wife calls it "good juju", it just feels good to be here. We showed up late, maybe 10pm, and were so welcomed it was almost shocking. Jay made us all his amazing fresh coffee and shared some delicious chocolate while we relaxed on his comfortable leather couches, and WOW what an incredible host. Out of our group I was the only one really familiar with cigars, and noticed his humidor has lots of really interesting stuff at great prices. I noticed that one guy who was new to cigars stepped aside to ask Jay if he could give him some pointers before he sat with our group and Jay did a stellar job teaching him how to get started, and making sure he was comfortable with how to light and puff on his cigar. This is such a comfortable, incredible place. I wish we lived closer so I could frequent his shop more often. It is, however, going to be our last stop before going home from here on out. read more

So, I stopped in here in a food-induced coma of delight after my delicious Ssam Burger from next door. As there's a slight ambiance of cigar smell in the restaurant, I presumed (correctly) that it would be pretty strong in there too. However, it was a nice day, and the door was open, so it wasn't too bad. Anyway, as soon as I walked in, I hopped to the humidor, which was MUCH larger and nicer than I would expect in a small shopping center like this. And, after milling around aimlessly for a few moments, someone (I assume Jay) came in and helped. After I explained that I like a very occasional cigar, but don't know/remember name brands, and what kind of style I like, he jumped right on it, and showed me this house brand of cigar he carries there. I'm not stuck on name brands, and I'm not one to burn $10 just for a smoke, so I bought 5, and walked out happy. Once I got home, a few days later, I had occasion (and a full glass of scotch!) to light up. I was not only satisfied, but pleasantly surprised at how nice this store-brand cigar is/was. Once I get down to my last stick, I'll go have a delicious burger/lotus fries, and stop by to see my new friend Jay! On a side note, I've worked retail for years, and know how hard it is to build trust, and help find some people what they're looking for. Not only did Jay do this exactly right the first time, he was genuine, kind, and really seemed to want my business, and for me to return...which I WILL!!
