Artisans. Father and son establishment. Friendly. Competitive pricing. Collaborators. Craftsmen…read more These are just a few words to describe Vanguard Iron Works. Nick is a veteran ironwork craftsmen with 40 years experience. Art, his son who also is experienced in creating master ironworks, manages the front face of their business, meeting with clients about quotes and communicating with clients every step of the way. Together with their small team, they truly create masterpieces. After meeting with several ironworks companies to get an understanding of the material and its capabilities/limitations, and regulations for 3 stair rails, I decided to go with Vanguard. There was one company whose quote was slightly cheaper than Vanguard, but I felt Vanguard wasn't just a welding company, but that they understood the materials, and grasped my artistic endeavor better. The custom work I needed done: one 14 foot indoor rail, one 36 inch stair rail, one 32 inch straight rail and 2 outdoor gates that needed fixing. Their shop in Azusa is kept neat and organized. I made many visits there to see the progress of my custom stair rails and to give direction each step of the way. I would tell Art I didn't like the shape of a curve or that the placement of a sphere was off, and they would make adjustments and improve the pieces. I appreciate that they don't dominate, but give guidance from years of experience in working with the materials, collaborating and listening to what can be improved artistically. They listen and take care of their clients. I told both Art and Nick that I had to keep with my budget and that I would love to replace my outdoor gates, but couldn't at this time since most of my budget was spent on the 3 indoor stair rails, and to just fix the gates so that they would swing close on their own again. When they went to make the cuts on my gate, it was so rotted, that it just crumbled. Instead of going the easy route, Nick spent additional time and material mending the gate to make it stronger. His professional advice was to replace these 30 year old gates, but he understood my budget constraints and worked with me without hesitation, not taking the easy route, but the harder, more time consuming one that extended the life of my gates. It was a pleasure to work with Art, Nick and their team. I joked with Nick and dubbed him the wrought iron "surgeon" as I watched him work. Like a surgeon, Nick is a master craftsman understanding the material and performing very precise, intricate work down to the last eighth of an inch. Yelpers, I will post BLACK POWDER COATING PAINTED INSTALLED photos of my indoor stair rails once I empty my living room and dining room of the many boxes. My current pictures don't do it justice!

Fred is one in a million. Let me explain. I had recently ordered a Sugarloaf Helmet with Visor--…read moresomething you'd find in the Renaissance Fair, Larp, SCA, Medieval Reenactment--that sort of thing. But it came in poor packaging and had been cracked, dented from transit and the visor was off center. It also didn't fit me with glasses on. It's mild steel, probably between 16 and 18 gauge: very thin metal. I figured I'd return it to the seller. They refused to take it back, but offered me the full refund. Now, I had a damaged helmet that I couldn't wear. So I figured I could find someone who could try to fix it. I reached out to several metal workers and they all turned me down. I respect their honesty but still left with nothing to go on, I felt hopeless. That's when I got a message from Fred! He said he never worked on something like this before, but he was open to it. I trusted in his confidence and he got into working on it right away! In just one day, he did what a lot of other metal workers could not do. He welded the crack, corrected the visor, fixed it from not closing, and helped in making it more comfortable. I definitely recommend his creativity, open-minded approach, and expertise with any requests even if it seems outlandish!

I sent out an SOS on an urgent issue and he was there bright and early in the morning. We had communicated on the phone and I literally sent him one picture and he beat me to the work site and was already working on the problem. I had the problem fixed once by another welder who just welded the broken piece back. Nope, Fred did the right thing and replaced the part and welded it into place. Excellent! I highly recommend Fred for any of your fence, gate, custom ironworks and welding. Save him on speed dial! Thanks Fred!

JRC had made beautiful ornamental iron gate and fence, security door, and window guards for our properties, and every project was beautifully, precisely fabricated, and installed. Whenever we reached out to JRC, we know that we can be rest assured with Rene's attention to details and design, and communicating with Stephanie who does great work coordinating the projects and scheduling. On top of all, the projects couldn't be completed without their highly skilled installers. All and all, JRC means top quality wrought iron product at a fair price. Every piece of wrought iron from JRC is a beautiful art work, and we look forward to working with JRC on our future projects!

In mid-April, I contacted 6 metal fabricators requesting a custom iron double gate to replace a…read more20-year-old dilapidated wooden gate. JRC's Jesse promptly arrived, carefully measured the space, and took many notes on my design. JRC's final estimate was very detailed, and the cost was exactly what I had expected between the other estimates I'd received. I put down 50%, and Jesse said it should take 4-6 weeks. Everything was going well until I realized it was the beginning of June and I hadn't heard from Jesse in 8 weeks. After my calls went unreturned, I emailed JRC's Director of Operations, Stephanie, who replied, "Jesse said he and one of our welders are working on your order, and you can expect completion in about a week. By Monday, we should have a better scope of exact install dates." After still not hearing from Jesse by the end of June, I reached out to Stephanie again for an update, who reported, "Our welder said he expects himself to be done tomorrow. We will be sending it to be powder coated, which just takes a day or 2." Another 3 weeks later in mid-July, with no installation date scheduled, I got a last-minute call explaining that they just had a cancellation and that they could install it today if I was available. Arnie arrived within the spontaneously scheduled window and got right to work installing the gate and meticulously making sure it was exactly right. He even hauled away the heavy old gate, which was very much appreciated. In the end, I'm very happy with the final build and installation, but JRC's communication leaves much room for improvement. I'd reached out to Jesse on a few occasions, and it took weeks to get a single response. A simple message that things were moving slower than expected or that it was going to take 12 weeks instead of 4-6 would have gone a long way. Also, having an actual installation date versus a last-minute cancellation that I could fill for them would have improved the overall process. Thankfully, Arnie left a very strong and professional last impression, as did Stephanie for her prompt and repeated replies. I only wish I didn't have to manage the project after all the missed milestones and awkward radio silences.
