Joya Beauty was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding - we feel so lucky to have found Joanne! Not only does she make everyone who sits in her chair look and feel gorgeous, she's a warm, calm and fun person to have around as you're getting ready. Before your wedding day even comes you get to visit her for a makeup trial, where we spent over an hour playing with different levels of color and intensity and by the time I left I felt amazing. I brought my mom with me for a second opinion and she made it so fun for the both of us. She worked seamlessly with our planner, hair stylist and photographer, and was always 3 steps ahead with the best outcomes in mind throughout the day. A small example of many: my fiance and I were planning to exchange gifts, and knowing I'd likely cry while opening mine she held off on applying any eye makeup that could possibly run until after we opened them. She was right - I cried, and the photos still looked great. In fact my makeup looked just as great at the end of the night as it did when she first applied it, thanks to her airbrushing magic and other products she uses to fix everything in place. Other appreciated things: she tucked blotting papers and a two tubes of lip color into my clutch, and left all my girls with a wand of their respective lip colors for touch ups as well. She did some light makeup on my groom that you couldn't notice in person but made our pictures look even better. She took pictures throughout my makeup application to check for anything that would show up funky on camera as we went. And for a nominal fee she'll stick around to touch you up one more time before you head down the aisle, something I especially appreciated since we did a first look and it was tearful. Do yourself a favor and call Joanne - and don't listen to wedding magazine timelines that tell you to wait until 3-6 months beforehand to do it either. She books up super fast. read more

I was recently introduced to Joanne at Joya Beauty, and I'm so glad I was. (This review is actually my very first - Joanne's seriously THAT good that I had to tell the Yelp world about Joya Beauty!) She will be expertly applying makeup to me and some of the most important ladies in my life for my wedding, no easy feat, but I know that she'll be a highlight of my big day. She treats clients like they're friends, patiently listening to each of the needs, phobias, and ideas you have. She creates a face-map (that's my own technical term) for each of her clients, marking the colors, contours, and plan - did I mention she custom blends her make up? Her studio is enviously organized, and full of beautiful colors and textures that you end up so inspired to get out of your comfort zone, with amazing results. In addition, she does facials like you've never had before - my mother and I walked out the other day on cloud 9, relaxed and feeling beautiful (no easy accomplishment if you've ever had an excavating-like facial that leaves you red for days!). A few weeks later, my skin is so smooth, and Joanne's given me great non-pressurey advice about products, which I'm still using and have ended up discontinuing my ol' Clinique routine. I trust her so much I even had her thread my eyebrows, which I've been avoiding after a traumatic brow experience years ago. After she was done threading, she and I both agreed I had rock-star eyebrows and I can't wait to get back to her. So basically if you want to feel like the most beautiful person in the world and even make a friend out of this process, call Joanne, or at the very least go to her website and see the amazing work she does for everyone (not just brides). I've met Joanne twice - she was recommended to me for my wedding makeup and the trial run appointment was my first experience with her. She was not only great at what she does but also she was patient, helpful, and just lovely to talk to. Joanne is absolutely the BEST when it comes to wedding make-up. She does gorgeous airbrushing, which creates a flawless look for the entire day. My makeup still looked perfect at the end of the night, after many sweaty hours on the dance floor! I was a Joya bride and I wouldn't have had it any other way. Joanne is professional, talented, and all around an amazing person. I booked her for my wedding without speaking to her personally or meeting her, so it could have been a huge disaster, but I knew during my makeup trial that I had made the right decision. At the trial, we spent well over the allotted time making me look pretty, erasing it, and doing it again. I'm the type of person who goes to a makeup store, gets a heavy application of foundation and a gross looking smoky eye, and doesn't say anything because she doesn't want to be rude. I got up the courage to tell Joanne exactly what I wanted, and that was what she did. She has a great airbrush machine which weightlessly evens out skin tone, and a huge range of lashes which she includes free of charge. She arrived to my hotel room early to set up, found a spot that not only had great light but also had a great view to keep us calm, and started her magic. The job she did was beyond incredible. I looked great (I'm allowed to say that, right?) and so did my 3 girls and mother. Everyone had their own style, and it was executed perfectly. It even lasted all day and all night-- it probably would have lasted me into Sunday Brunch if I hadn't scrubbed it off at the end of the night. She also gave my girls and I individual lip liners and glosses in the perfect color for our skin tones, so that we could reapply throughout the night. If I ever needed someone to do my makeup again, Joanne would be the first person I'd call-- no question. read more

I've used Joya Beauty for two different services- a private make-up lesson and a facial. I've been to plenty of spas and experienced any number of different beauty and skin care products through the years. The main difference when I had a facial with Joya was that Joanne made certain that she understood my skin and its quirks and used appropriate products. I've struggled my entire life with skin issues of one kind or another- severe acne being the worst of it, but I've also had rosacea and very oily skin. After having a facial with Joanne, my skin has completely changed. After my facial with her, I purchased two of the products she used on my face- a cleanser and a moisturizer. I've used those products exclusively for the last two years and I have had nothing but great skin ever since. As someone who struggled with terrible acne for nearly a decade, it's still amazing to me when friends and family refer to my "great skin." In addition to having an excellent facial experience, I also took a private make-up lesson with Joanne. It completely changed my perspective on how I look at the make-up I own. She started the lesson by doing an inventory of my make-up bag- pulling everything out and letting me know what was good, what was junk, what I needed to use differently, and most importantly how to organize it. She helped me understand the contours of my face and how to use make-up to enhance my appearance even more. Prior to my lesson with Joanne, I had basic skills for applying my own make-up, but that had more to do with luck than true knowledge. If my make-up turned out great on any particular day, it was a pleasant surprise. After a lesson with Joanne, I felt confident that I can apply my make-up professionally for just about any event. I would still go to her for a really special event, however. I had a makeup lesson with Joanne to prepare for my wedding so that I could do it myself on my wedding day. She was fabulous. She is very skilled, has great positive energy and really listens. She showed me how to do everything, and even helped me go through my existing makeup to see what I could use and what I should supplement. The makeup looked great - very natural and pretty, just as I had asked for. And I feel confident that I'll be able to replicate it. She is awesome. If you are getting married in the New England area, you would be insane not to work with Joanne at Joya Beauty! She did an incredible job. My makeup looked EXACTLY the way I wanted it to. She listened and studied the photos I showed her and basically made me look like a much better version of my natural self.
