If I could give zero stars, I would. I scheduled a massage, I had a gift certificate from last Christmas. Joy Spa wouldn't honor the certificate, telling me that any certificates prior to 4 months ago wouldn't be accepted. The certificate has no expiration on it. There's a tiny note at the front door stating this "policy". According to the Attorney General, gift certificates in WA state never expire. As far as I can tell, it's against the law for them to reject the gift certificate. There were ZERO customers in there and the smell when you walk into this place is very strange. I quickly felt extremely uncomfortable as he kept pressing himself/rubbing his junk against me repeatedly. At first I thought it was an accident until it continued to happen no matter how much I pulled away. I was super uncomfortable and didn't know what to do and stopped the massage early to leave. This behavior is unacceptable and should never happen during what is supposed to be a professional and relaxing service. If you're a woman be careful of seeing a male. I used to love this place and have come here regularly for many years. Until today, a woman was incredibly rude to me while I was attempting to pay. I had old coupons from a previous visit for free add-ons, though it seems that they don't accept their own coupons anymore. Instead of explaining this, the woman loudly explained the difference between a coupon and a gift card to me. They now only accept gift cards. I didn't even argue with her but she repetitively made me seem ridiculous for trying to hand her a coupon. It's fine if it's expired, I really wasn't trying to dispute anything at all. Upon entry, she was very impatient when I took a few seconds to read the menu options. While exiting, I attempted to take a picture so I could be prepared in the future. I like this local massage place. I have had consistently great massages here. I like massages so much, my ex husband and I actually had a massage therapist who worked with our family full time. With regards to scheduling, I appreciate that Joy Spa management is patient with scheduling. They don't give you grief if you are stuck at work and need to change the time you want to come in. Try to get here on time, I had one slightly bad experience when I came 15 minutes late due to torrential rain. The short male manager wanted to cut my massage by 15 min. The other 6 or 7 times I have been here I didnt have that problem even when I arrived five minutes late. Thank gosh because If that would have been a consistent issue, I wouldn't have come back. The spa itself is VERY clean, beautiful and relaxing. For something so local, the quality could not be better. I called to ask for pricing and asked if they accept cards & the woman said yes (English was a little difficult to understand) 60-min deep tissue massage: $65 + $10 add on for essential oil (your choice of eucalyptus or lavender) & hot stones. There just wasn't a 'WOW' factor here. It was a pretty dim place with the soft sound of a water fountain in the distance. About half way through my massage, some elevator spa music came on. The male masseuse came in and didn't even ask what my pressure preferences were. At some moments, it was a bit teeth-clenching but I also know I had some pretty bad knots in my back. It is always so bizarre when they touch your feet and then go to your face.. Anyway- paid via Zelle after he asked for cash. Sent the amount plus like a 15% tip. I walked out of the establishment to my car that was parked right in front. The male came out, went to the car next to me, which I think was the owner in her car and then they both stood there mean mugging me. I'm sorry you can't force people to tip you more nor should you be scolding those who tipped you but it's apparently not enough. Yes, I understand massage therapy is hard on the body but you chose this profession. We love Joy Spa. We've been coming here for a long time and we have a great experience every time. Usually you can walk in, but with COVID, they are requiring appointments. But I have found they can get you in pretty quickly as they have massage techs on call and they can get you in fairly quickly. When we went, we didn't realize we needed an appointment so we were outside of the spa when I called to see what they had available and they were able to get us in within 10 minutes. Called to get a massage here for my neck pain after a particularly rough dance week. They were very accommodating and had an appointment during my lunch break. Masseuse regularly checked in with me and made sure pressure wasn't too hard which was nice. I also like how it's an over the clothes massage esp because I had a male masseuse. These days they don't ask you what pressure point is your comfort level, when you tell them they apply it about 5 mins and promptly go back to forgetting what you just requested, sometimes several times in a session, which is not relaxing and very frustrating. What you pay for is a soft feet rub that you can just do at home instead of a paid massage. If you can't be bothered to pay attention to do your job at the basic level - that is listen to your customer in a service industry line of work - then don't expect a 20% tip and get disappointed. It's clear from the open display of unprofessional behaviors in front of clients, inconsistency in massages, lack of attention and disgruntled employees who don't seem to agree with the owner's scheduling, that this place needs to redo it's management style, seriously amp up their training and put extra effort in becoming more customer focused. They do things a bit different here or maybe it was just me. They had different people doing the massage at the beginning, middle and end. I wouldn't have noticed, but I could tell by the persons hands and then at the last portion I had to ask for more pressure and instead of the man, it was the woman who was massaging my back. My girl friend and I stopped here after a day of remodeling her house. Our bodies ached! They were able take both of us at the same time right away. We walked in and the place was super clean!!
