Custard filled malassada (10/19/24)
Marie B.

Joy Joy's / Pinoy Bakery was the first stop on the Lakewood 3.0 road trip (10/19/24). Fascinating indie shop where it's a bakeshop but has some snacks, pantry items, beverages, and even sacks of rice. There's also time zone decor and abundant free religious periodicals by the entrance. I'm FilAm and enjoyed home baked goods and specialties from the greater Puget Sound area, California, and Hawaii. I purchased a custard filled malasada...The Homie ate it later. I don't know how old it was from the pastry case, kind of soaked through the paper bag. CC requested a fresh one and piped upon order. It's a mystery on how to compare the two. I bought a pack of Strawberry Twists. It is definitely not to equate with true danish dough. If you'd had ube rolls, it's that kind of sweet dough with strawberry filling. The bag of round pan de sal I found to be the most authentic with regards to the squish factor and inner crumb. I split one when I arrived home and drizzled some condensed milk. Just needed kapé for merienda. It made me think of my late father's pan de sal, which was a pleasant food flashback. Joy Joy's does the job in the local area. I just prefer other locations. 3.5 rounded to a 4.

If you're looking some good Filipino bread- this is the place to go! They sell out pretty quick so come early if you're looking for something particular. They also offer cakes (special ordered), a few Filipino snacks & Filipino coffee!

5/5 - The Ultimate Filipino Bread Spot! If you know me, you know I'm a sucker for some good ol' Filipino bread--and this place absolutely delivers. Their Uber Pandesal with Cream Cheese is nothing short of amazing. It's the perfect balance of soft, fluffy bread with that creamy, savory filling that makes you feel right at home with every bite. Beyond the bread, they've got all the Filipino goodies you could ask for--chips, candy, drinks--it's like stepping into a mini slice of the Philippines. If you're craving a taste of home or just want to try something delicious, this is the spot to hit up. Definitely worth the visit every single time! The service is always great too, the Filipino ladies are too sweet.

I'm so happy I found this place. I used to just ordered thru Doordash, the first time I ordered thru them they gave me a freshly baked bread and a little thank you note after that I was hooked. I went to the store couple of times and they sell other Filipino products like fishballs, dried taro leaves, filipino snacks etc. I love going to Joy Joy's Bakery!

I heard about this location recently from a family member. As someone who has lived in Hawaii where Filipino baked goods can't be beat, I needed to try this establishment out. It certainly is a sight to see. They have plenty of ube items, however, there are other options to choose from. In our recent visit, we ordered the ensaymada, cheese roll with Eden cheese (comes in two) and the ube pandesal with ube halaya filling (comes with four). Flavor wise, it's there. The only issue is that the bread was kind of dry. I'm not too sure if the pandesal and ensaymada we bought were made on a different day or not. BUT, it's not bad when it's popped in the microwave or toaster. Price is pretty expensive but this looks to be the norm for eateries in Lakewood. Would I return again? Sure. From what I know, there is no other bakeries that offer pandesal in this area. Take my money, I guess.

I had called earlier requesting if malasadas were available. I was told so and immediately placed an order to be picked up. When I arrived, I was greeted, and the attendant was extremely courteous and professional. The atmosphere was clean and neat. After receiving my order, the attendant gave me 2 warm items free: a pandesol and another circular shaped bread with a butter flavor. The custard malasada was still nice warm. It was soft and delicious. My granddaughter loved the coconut malasada. The pan de coco was fresh, and sweet. My grandson loved them. Strongly recommended the malasadas. Custard and coconut flavor. Most definitely, I will return.

Ube Spanish bread

The three times that I have ordered from here, they always get the order right and sent home on time. The Ube Spanish rolls and regular Spanish rolls remind me of a bakery Nanding's back home in Hawaii, the rolls are super close If not exactly like them...Delicious! The malasadas aren't like Leonard's back home, but they are sooo good!! My kids love the pork shumai which reminds them of pork hash from the manapua trucks and the chicken asado is very flavorful. Give Joy Joy's a try, your stomach will not be disappointed.

This is a cute little spot. The malasada though was disappointing. They were hard, nothing really special!

I know they do not have regular open hours for just walk in purchase, but rather, they're custom order type business, but I have yet to place any custom orders so I cannot speak to that experience. What made me write this review is how accurate the owner (Brianne) described cake and desserts in the description and the baked goods taste matched 200% of the description. The pistachio cake was out of the world, so was the whoopie pie!!! I got to meet Brianne in person and she was very friendly, and was kind to explain everything about each of her baked goods she had out that day. I've tried their baked goods from pop tarts to cookies to housemade Twinkie and the creation and taste are unmatched. Single serve baked goods were more on pricier side, but well worth every bite. I would definitely order custom baked goods from here, knowing the quality and taste of products from this shop!!! Currently, you can find Spilled Butter baked goods at Cosmonaut coffee, Outer Dark Coffee, and at Tacoma Farmers Market (also known as Tacoma Broadway Farmers Market) from time to time. Enjoy!!!

We were excited to find a new-to-us bakery while we were shopping and had high hopes. When we stood…read morein line we saw a sign that says, "My cup overflows with your blessings. Psalm 23:5" which added to our excitement since were Christians. That set us up for a lot of disappointment because we got super rude service. We stood in line for a while and as we got to the counter, the manager said, "Who's next?" and before we could say something, someone else started ordering who had not been waiting in line. Dorothy, we were standing there the whole time, but I think it might be a race thing because the people she served were German and we're brown people. So my sister says something to the young lady at the counter and she starts slinging out attitude. "So what do you want me to do about it?" How about not be rude when you guys had the failure on your end? Then she seated us, throwing our table number on the table. The nerve! This is the opposite of making things right. Another waitress (who was not white) came up to us and apologized. She was sweet and I'm guessing she sees that type of treatment a lot at this place. We're not the types who sees race in everything, but when I talked to my sister later she mentioned how Dorothy let the Germans cut, which confirmed what I was feeling too. I hate that in 2026 you can still see that type of behavior because it's jarring when it happens. By the way, the streusel cake and coffee and they were okay. I think Entenmanns which you can get at the grocery store is better. We were going to order salami sandwiches and some other pastries, but after that waitress treated us poorly, we were afraid what that waitress might do to our food in the kitchen. I saw in another review that someone else complained about how rude she was. My guess? She must be related to the owner because they clearly don't care how she treats the customers.
