District Sports:…read more I really have enjoyed playing soccer with District sports. I am realizing how much I miss playing soccer in the District Sports leage now in this Covid era where sports are off the table for a bit! Pros: Cost: Only about $80 for a season- not too bad, and probably breaks down to about $10 a game or less. Locations: The fields are pretty conveniently located, not too far to get to. Team captains have a say in what fields are played on, as well as the schedules of the games, and they take into account where players on the teams live. General game conditions: The fields were in good condition. Games were held on both grass and turf fields, and referees for the games seemed competent and always showed up on time. Diversity: There are lots of folks of all different ages and skill levels in this league. The league is coed. The average age is probably 28ish, if I had to guess. There are definitely more men than women in this league. Social element: There is a social element to this league. After wins, many teams go out for drinks or food. Friendships are definitely built in this league. Cons: This con is more of a pro, in some ways. Because the league is coed, but male dominated, there's a rule that asks that at least three female players be on the field at all times, for each team playing. If there are not enough girls, a team has to forfeit the win, regardless of the score. Because of this, sometimes, as a girl, when teams playing games either before or after your scheduled game are short on female players, they will ask you to play for them in their games. If you want to get some extra play in, it is very easy to play for other teams who need female players to have to not forfeit games. You also will get a lot of playing time as a girl in general, because of the way league rules are structured, and because of the general shortage of girl players.

You may want to check out what District Sports has to offer. It's one of the better run amateur adult co-ed soccer leagues. It's a great league to break into the sport. All skills levels are welcomed. There's no "side tackling" and the field is shorter, so you're likely to survive. Soccer is only the beginning. They offer indoor soccer, futsol, frisbee, 7 on 7 soccer, indoor kickball, and basketball. There's plenty to do year round with this league and the fees are very reasonable. If you can sign up with a team, or just walking a meet some new people. Everyone is incredibly friendly, great adult recreational league. And, yes, they do like to party too. Just fyi, if you're very a competitive soccer player, this isn't the league for you.

DC Way has been a wonderful introduction into the world of soccer for my son who started at 5 years…read moreold (now 7). Although he didn't start off as one of the more gifted or confident players, Coach Denis and his team has been amazing at bringing out his best -- so much that this year, his team has gone to an undefeated season. But more than winning tournaments, the coaches teach skills at an approachable, inspiring, and positive way. As for our youngest, he was clearly not ready for soccer. Coach Dennis gently approached me and said that it might be better to try again next year and to just email for a refund. When the youngest is ready, we will definitely be bringing him to the field with his cleats on and ready.

Awful experience playing basketball in a DC Fray league. We played a game in which only we had to…read morecall our own game because she had to manage the scoreboard (?). One of the refs was also incredibly biased and favored certain teams over others. She would also repeatedly lash out at players. My group will not be playing again, and we advise others to choose Volo or All in Hoops, instead of Fray, for basketball.

I went twice and found around 50 players squeezed onto just four courts. I stayed a total of 5-10 minutes because what I found both times was a scene that was overcrowded, chaotic, and unenjoyable. The drills in particular were a problem. On the two courts that ran drills, there were more than 20 players at a time. With so many people, you most of the time was spent waiting in line. This isn't what I signed up for, and it was incredibly frustrating to realize that the league organizers either oversold the program or didn't plan properly for the number of participants. Worse than being unfun, though, the setup felt genuinely unsafe. Within the first five minutes of my first visit, I accidentally hit someone with a forehand because the instructor had people retrieving balls on the opposite side of the net while others were still hitting. That was literally the second ball I hit, and I left after that. Given court space and safety space issues, I unfortunately can't recommend this program in its current state.

The fields are located between the Reflecting Pool to the west, WWII Memorial to the north, and Korean War Veterans Memorial and U.S. Park Police Horse Stables to the east. You have to reserve the field online for team sports or group use. 1-hour time slots are available to schedule every day of the week from 7am-8:30pm during the season (April 1st - October 31st). During the season, I recommend arriving outside of the reservation hours, especially during spring and summer, as people tend to be territorial and vocal about asking others to leave the field during their reservation time, which is understood. Please be mindful and respect others reservations. Outside of the reservation season, feel free to use the field anytime. There are restrooms at the end of the fields near the WWII Memorial. A great place to enjoy outdoor green space.

8/12/21 After visiting the Martin Luther King Jr Memorial,…read more I started heading back to The Washington Monument on a warm Saturday morning on August 7th.  I started hearing a lot of noises and saw something going on just past the The District Of Columbia War Memorial. I checked out the The District Of Columbia War Memorial before heading to JFK Fields.  I have been to these fields before as a kid.  However, these fields were empty. I also had no knowledge of the DC streets. Nevertheless,  on this particular day,  the fields were full of life.  Girls and boys were playing American Football.  On some fields girls were practicing soccer.     I passed by a young boys football team who were wearing black and purple.   My kind of colors.  Some of them seemed to like my black and purple baseball jersey. Yes, I bought a lovely baseball jersey with the Baltimore Ravens.     You can buy baseball jerseys with your favorite teams  one them for $49.00 each. https://www.sport9design.com/products/baltimore-ravens-personalized-baseball-jersey-shirt-39?variant=1000004407975576&gclid=CjwKCAjwjdOIBhA_EiwAHz8xm-UX9BG3DtvOEGHFM9WTshC3vai3Z-i-BzDR2a0f7gemVw0EVcAq0xoCJn0QAvD_BwE  Anyhow, from some of the games I watched, it were entertaining from what I saw.  Kids smiling, laughing and having a good time.  Perhaps some of these kids I saw will be the next Lamar Demeatrice Jackson Jr.,  Anquan Kenmile Boldin Sr., Justin Paul Tucker, Peyton Williams Manning, Sarah Fuller Sarah Thomas, Patricia Palinkas, Katie Sowers, Lori Locust, Jennifer King or Kathryn Smith. Only time will tell if this actually happens to these kids.   There are two public bathrooms by this field, but the circular one was the busiest.  In my honest opinion the farther bathroom  had a better feel and look. It was clean without the heavy stink of...human gas.  I saw that the bathrooms are watched by staff and regularly check the facilities during the sports activities.  Nevertheless,  it started to rain, but this did not stop the kids from playing or the proud moms and dads from cheering for their kid(s) to succeed.   Finding out what all the hubbub was about was worth visiting JFK Fields.
