As local we have been going to Josophans for years. The "new" shop is even more beautifully done, smells divine and the chocolate is lovely as ever. However, the prices, which were always expensive are now just prohibiting and ridiculous. Im no cheapskate and went in excited and fully prepared to splurge but came out empty handed, the prices just seemed in the crazy, "rip-off" zone and ruined the fun and made me feel I'd rather pop into Woolies for a block of Green and Blacks.
Cafe Madeline was always the best place in Leura for a great chocolate hit whether it was cake or choc-chip scones and the coffees were pretty good too. Unfortunately the cafe has now closed and has been replaced by a loveless little kiosk attached to the main shop. The actual ice cream is quite nice but we had the sundae. Two of them for $25. We were informed they'd run out of cream but would add extras to make up for it. This turned out to be an extra stale Oreo. The brownie in it was also stale. The plastic spoons were too bendy to be fit for purpose. It all just felt overpriced, was sickly-sweet and left a bad taste in the mouth in every way.
Not what you'd expect for either the price or Josophans standard. Nail in the coffin for this long time former fan for both shop and kiosk and won't be going back, sorry. read more
