If they rebook the room for those August dates (likely, given the lead time I gave them), they get paid twice for one room -- once by me, once by whoever books it next. That's not a cancellation policy, that's a windfall at the customer's expense. I understand small businesses need protection against last-minute cancellations. A 24-hour refund window on a months-out booking isn't reasonable notice, it's a loophole. Book elsewhere unless you're 100% certain of your dates -- or read every word of the fine print before you pay.

My wife planned this trip as part of a Christmas gift for me. I'm into astrophotography, and RESET's location and dark-sky experience were a huge part of the appeal. We specifically came prepared to spend our nights photographing the sky. Unfortunately, the light pollution around the property was terrible. There is an animal shelter immediately next door to the west with extremely bright exterior lighting, and a casino to the east producing significant light pollution from the opposite direction. Between the two, astrophotography from the property was essentially a bust. Ironically, I was able to get a significantly better image of Andromeda later from my balcony at home in Southern California. That was pretty disappointing for a trip planned specifically around being in the desert under dark skies. The bigger problem, though, was the hotel experience itself. The property seemed severely understaffed. From what we could tell, there were basically a couple of employees trying to handle everything: front desk, food, drinks, guest requests, etc. The pool was dirty, dishes and glasses sat around the courtyard, the outdoor tub wasn't particularly clean, and the cold plunge had visible surface scum. We asked multiple times for an additional pillow and never received one. Even getting extra linens was more difficult than it should have been at a hotel in this price range. Several of the amenities we expected to enjoy also weren't really available. The fire pits couldn't be used because of fire restrictions. Obviously RESET doesn't control fire restrictions, but combined with everything else, there just wasn't much left of the experience we thought we were paying for. I want to be very clear about one thing: I don't blame the employees. The people who were there seemed to be working hard and doing the best they could. This felt like a management and staffing problem, not an employee problem. After our stay, I contacted RESET directly and gave them an opportunity to address our experience before posting a public review. I explained essentially everything I've written here. After receiving no response, I eventually escalated the issue to Marriott. Despite giving RESET plenty of time to respond, I never received any acknowledgment from the property or any attempt to address our concerns. That's probably the most disappointing part. Problems happen. Hotels have bad weekends. Staffing issues happen. I don't expect perfection. But when a guest takes the time to privately explain what went wrong, especially after paying for a premium experience, I think the minimum expectation is a response. RESET is a beautiful concept and has a lot of potential. Had the experience matched what was advertised, I could easily see this being a place we'd return to. Unfortunately, between the cleanliness issues, lack of staffing, unavailable amenities, the substantial light pollution from the animal shelter immediately next door and the casino on the other side, and the complete lack of follow-up afterward, I can't recommend it based on our experience.

Mojave Sands was perfect for our stay. Only a few rooms on site, pretty secure to get in, easy to get to our room, and large enough to be comfortable for our little family. We were able to set up our Pack and Play in our room and then layout a play area in the living room by the kitchen. I really enjoyed our stay and what I mention next is not bad just tips that I would have liked to have known: We stayed in Suite 1 which was closest to the road and it was tough for baby to take his naps. The rooms have lots of windows but none of the shades fully block the window, again making it hard for him to take naps and, for adults, hard to sleep in when the sun is blistering through the windows at 7am haha (it doesn't matter we're up at 7 anyways), the kitchen was very small, I so wish it had a microwave or an oven. Lastly, the floors are concrete, which I'm sure is appreciated during the summer, but in the winter, even with the heaters on at almost 80 F, I was absolutely freezing when sleeping, i had to wear my slippers and a turtle neck to stop shivering. My husband was fine, but I'm a cold person and I wished I had an extra blanket. Location was great and close to the West entrance and super close to the visitor center and Road Runner cafe (side note, just go to Walmart a little further and get food for the park, Road Runner was expensive and the sandwiches were ok at best). Overall, loved our stay and so glad I booked it!

I and friends from Canada stayed here after a day in Joshua Tree National Park. This place is in a great location with lots of places to enjoy local color within walking distance. Assuredly the perfect spot to decompress. We found this place online and the owner was wonderful, over the phone, to book our stay. Everything went exactly as she'd said it would regarding receiving necessary gate codes, etc. We were not disappointed on arrival; this place is spectacularly special. Literally, a hidden oasis that has been thoughtfully, artistically created to provide a very unique zen experience. We loved the secluded, quiet vibe and it was so beautiful. We used the suite and one of the regular rooms. The suite was a two level masterpiece with plenty of seating, a small kitchen and carefully chosen art pieces that elevate the ambiance. It has picture windows that provide a dynamite view and you've got the option to draw blinds for privacy. The beds and linens were so comfortable that my Canadian friend said her husband got the best night sleep here; out of their entire trip to California. My room was perfect. Warm, so comfortable, and with a thoughtful artistic touch. The architectural details of modern, mixing hard and soft with an Asian zen/Americana 50' vibe. The icing on the cake was my golden retriever was also welcome. He thoroughly enjoyed having a safe, enclosed area to chill with his humans. For sure, the next trip to the 29 Palms side of Joshua Tree will include another stay here. Highly recommend here for a very unique, relaxed, pet friendly respite!

It had been over ten years…read moresince our last visit and we were in the area for a stargazing event so it provided a great home base for our desert adventure. Driving up to the Campbell House is like going back in time. I could imagine driving up that dry dusty bumpy road in a Model T covered in dust. Seeking out the health benefits of the dry climate that were touted by medical practitioners at the time. The last time we visited Campbell House was probably in 2012 or 2013. Our lives were much different then but we still had find memories of the place. We arrived around 2:30 and made out way to the main house. We opened the large red door and walked across the creaky floor into the small office. The main house has a lot of character. The smell of stale furniture polish and old linen permeates the air. The walls are thick and made up of stones that I can assume had been gathered locally and painstaking bonded together to form a desert architectural masterpiece. Check-in was easy and we were assigned the Artifacts Cottage which is another stone structure on the outer perimeter of the property next to the cistern which is no longer used. The cottage was pretty spacious. It had a queen size bed, a modular couch, and a kitchenette complete with an actual fridge. The bathroom was surprisingly large. Outside there was a small porch with a table and chairs. The views from the windows were incredible. My only criticism is the wifi was spotty and there weren't any USB chargers. Continental breakfast is offered in the main house. Hardboiled eggs, sous vide egg bites, and bacon are just some of the items available. The dining room, which I believe was probably a living room at some point, was beautiful and relaxing. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful. The day we arrived staff was setting up tables for an event that evening so there were lots of things scattered around. There is a pool on the property as well that looked very inviting.

But once you see the palm trees in the distance, head down the little dirt road, you feel like you have entered a private oasis. The house and property have quite a story to tell. We found freshly baked cookies upon our arrival, along with chilled water and coffee in the dining room/sitting room. Peggy was so friendly and helpful to us, as was the rest of the staff. We stayed in the Sunset cottage at the back of the property. It was nice and quiet and very private. We had a little porch out front that looked off into the desert. Our cottage had a kitchenette with a mini fridge, sink, dishes, microwave and plenty of counter space if you are going to heat up leftovers from one of the restaurants or fix a small meal. In the kitchen was a table for two. The queen size bed was very comfortable and the living room cozy. There were plenty of windows to let the light in, and at night step out on the porch for views of stars. The bathroom was huge, and everything was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The property is large, with outbuildings and cottages, a game room near the pool and a pool house where you will find towels for the pool. Each morning between 7am and 9am you will find a continental breakfast in the main house dining room, sitting area. We had coffee/tea, pastries and muffins, along with sausage, hard-boiled eggs and egg casserole muffins. The perfect start to a day in Joshua Tree National Park. Each afternoon we found warm cookies back in the dining area. It truly was an incredible stay. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Twentynine Palms. The Campbell House Inn and staff couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming.

I wanted to love this place but I couldn't. There was no one…read morethere when I arrived for check in- they did have a print out on the door saying no one is there after hours (after 430pm) I was there at 3pm. I had to call the number and they had my key in the lockbox. The room was upstairs and there were DEAD BUGS along the baseboards of the room. I had to put a towel at the base of the door to block the 107 degree weather from seeping in because of the gap that was between the floor and the door. The room took forever to cool down, around 2-3 hours. The final straw for me was the mineral pool, it had mold all around the tiles and ground. I contacted management and she was helpful and understanding and I sent her the pictures, I contacted Expedia and left the property the same day. It's has been 3 days and Expedia has not been able to get ahold of anyone at the property to process a refund. The manager was understanding and appalled by what she saw in the pictures and apologized. I was not going to do a review, but now that they are not answering and not allowing the refund I am letting others know so they don't have to go through what I did.
