So the food is amazing! Waitress sucked she came over didn't even say hi! After eating I ordered a mid shelf margarita and she began walking away before my husband could choose what he wanted....he got a top shelf margarita! I said I wanted 1800 and she didn't even give him a chance to state which tequila he wanted. So we assumed it would be whatever they chose. But why have options on the menu??? Delicious beyond 5 stars! When I say I'm not a fan of most Mexican​ restaurants it's because of greasy and yuck cheese. Here in the middle of tourist restaurants and fast food is the best I've ever had. As the other half of a Mexican food fanatic, I dine in way too many and this was worth it SO much we went there twice during our vacation. The whitefish tacos are amazing, made on non-greasy homemade taco shells. The seafood enchilada was excellent as well. Very nice to see an al la carte menu so I didn't have to have rice & beans. The Patron selection was great as well. Service very good. Only suggestion was better chips but who cares when everything else is excellent. read more

Went for some guac and margs, the drinks were 10/10 delish, but the waitress was really unhappy with the fact that we were not ordering much food and nearly snapped my real ID "checking" it as a result. We had a party of 17 people and called ahead to see if reservations were accepted. Being a Friday understandably they weren't, no big deal. We were willing to wait. We got to the restaurant and were seated at three nearby tables in the back. Our party was seated and two of the servers came over for two tables but not the third one. The two servers were great and very friendly and attentive. However, our third table was not served and sat there waiting for awhile. A server came over and told the third table they had to go back and wait because they were not to be seated at the nearby table. We were all together and told that server we were seated together by the hostess. She the server, (who we found out was the owner) preceded to call us liars about our conversation with hostess about where we were seated. Well our third table was upset and left. The owner asked us to leave as well and we kindly said no. We were there to celebrate a birthday for someone who was excited to eat there considering we are only up here once a year. We stayed because we had already ordered and wanted to enjoy our meal and company. Well, the owner/server was waiting on the table next to ours and was eyeing us up and clearly agitated (her own personal problem). She didn't like something that she overheard at our table in our own personal conversation, so she came over and ask us to take our last bite and leave she also enjoyed throwing shades of assumptions out at us. Again, knowing nothing about us she called us drunks and that we were upsetting her staff and customers around us. To the contrary, we were not drunk we did not upset anyone, we were minding our own business at our table. We want to thank our two server for their amazing service and we did leave them the tip they deserved. Waitress was awesome . The food was so bad. We ordered chicken flautas, pork carnitas, chicken chimichanga beef enchilada and chicken burrito , verde. The meat was bland , unseasoned and dry. First experience in this establishment was the extremely rude greeter. She pointed out to us that she was not smiling. we proceeded to inform her that we had 11 that included a infant. she had to check with the server to see if they would even want to serve us. after being seated we were informed that we would not be allowed to seat how we were seated because the server didn't want to serve us that way. the greeter walked off and ignored us after that. as we decided not to eat there, we informed the greeter that we would be leaving to which we got no response. I don't get how this place only has 3 stars on here. I've read some of the 1 star reviews and they make for a very good laugh. Obviously people who don't know what Mexican food either is or tastes like. They probably think Taco Bell is authentic! My family I came here around the end of July 2018. Heard about it after reading about how they were voted number 1 by MLive magazine for having the best fish tacos in the whole state. So of course I had to try them out. Not only is the food as authentic as can be for the area, the fish tacos were worth 5 stars alone. The chips and salsa were awesome. Even the refried beans were amazing. First place I've ever went where the beans actually had flavor!! If I didn't live 6 hours away I'd be in there more often and will definitely be back the next time I'm in St. Ignace. read more

We really enjoyed this place. Went to try their famous white fish taco. It was delicious. We also ordered the nachos, the carne asada tacos and the fried ice cream. The nachos were delicious oh, the jalapenos were quite spicy. A carne asada tacos had a distinctive grilled flavor, really like a previous a reviewer had stated, the closest thing to San Diego carne asada burrito I've had. For me, I absolutely loved the fried ice cream. The crispy coconut exterior was so delicious. I would go back again and again for this. The portions are plentiful, in line with the price. You're definitely getting what you pay for here. I've tried his other venture, Java Joes. Very good also oh, my stop if you are road tripping. The service was very good. read more

My family and I visited Jose's Cantina a week ago (exact date and time can be provided). Our server, who happened to be the manager, STACY, displayed a slightly aggressive behavior, incorrectly took our order, incorrectly charged us 15-18% gratuity for a party of 5 (when the menu clearly stated 15-18% gratuity is for a party of 8). Initially we had asked for a spicy version of the salsa (which was bland tomato puree) that came with extra salted chips but she told us that's going to be extra, we did not mind. A few moments later my order was entirely wrong and she was nowhere to be found to check in if everything was good. So I had to ask another server to assist and she gladly did. We had asked for extra salsa for the table for more flavors to which Stacy did NOT disclose there is an extra charge, which is strangely odd because I gave yet to come across a Mexican restaurant that charges extra for salsa. Stacy told us that the first 3 salsa is free (for a party of 5? really?). When we pointed all this out, she got offended and told us to not create chaos (really Stacy?) and told us to follow her to check us out (away from customers). When we pointed out her fault to NOT CON US, she said it was not her fault but it was the 'system's fault'. She also added that "In my country, we do not not create chaos", EXCUSE ME!? And she RAN away. 2 minutes later Stacy returned and threatened to call police, and we granted her permission to do so, after which she 'pretended' she's on the call with police and hung up on them and told us we are never welcomed in that place again. SHE SAID WE WON'T GET THE OLD RECEIPT! Then she pulls out the 'women's card' saying this is not you talk to a woman! LOL WHAT!? I reached out to the owner Sandy Durm at sjdurm@gmail.com (it's on facebook) and she mentioned that 'I will not get into the drama' as 'I've been in business for 20 years'. Such bigotry and racist behavior is supported by the owner so of course the manager would get away with such behavior. It fascinates me of such people running an ethnic restaurant. read more

We went here because of Ryan K's rave review....and let me tell ya, it didn't disappoint. On our way to Mackinac we did theatrical readings of Ryan's 2 mexican reviews (this and ole ole) to prep us for our visit. After that, I HAD to get the seafood enchiladas here, and wow. It was every bit as good as he said. The place is MUCH cleaner and nicer on the inside than it looks on the outside. The staff was very friendly and all the food was knockout. This is some of the best Mexican I've had in Michigan. I'll go back here any chance I get...I'm drooling right now thinking about it. If you're in the area and you're hungry....go here. SO GLAD we found this place. Excellent Mexican food... rumor is they stole the chef from the Grand Hotel. Everything was perfectly seasoned, correctly priced, and available vegetarian. Sold! M had a vegetarian burrito with fake meat and I had the local whitefish tacos... YUM. We couldn't even decide when to trade plates because everything was so good... And the view! if you happen to be here while it's nice out, make sure to sit out on the large deck overlooking Lake Huron. I saw heat lamps so they might be trying to extend the season, but I'm pretty sure that won't work in December. I don't know if we'll ever be in St. Ignace again, but if we are I already know where we'll be eating all our meals. PS. the address on Yelp is wrong. Solid Mexican food. Beef and shrimp fajitas were well-cooked and my house margarita hit the spot. My husband can NEVER find food spicy enough for him, but the "burrito del muerte" had him happily sweating and downing ice water. Kids enjoyed tacos and the colorful interior. What a dive. From the moment we walked in, I was disappointed. The host was taking Togo orders and seating guests but had no idea what she was going. She left a line of people at the host stand waiting to have their name taken down while she went and took a Togo order at a separate counter. We were finally sat down only to wait five minutes for waters. The server got our order wrong- my husband and I wanted to share a chimichanga and she brought out fajitas. The chimichanga was brought out just as everyone else was done eating. I've never had a chimichanga drenched in enchilada sauce before but that's how they serve it.....the rice was hard and crunchy like it had been sitting in a heated well all afternoon and thy scraped the sides of the pan to dish up our plate- gross. Terrible experience and we weren't offered anything for compensation for the inconvenience other than an apology from our server. Will not repeat. read more

Food was ok. Server would not bring my wife a straw (they use paper straws). Kids meal comes with straws. Not a fan of the cheap plastic (scratched) cups. They gross my wife out. Asked for a straw. Server said owner doesn't allow them only for kids and specialty drinks. Offered to pay for straw. Server said no. Asked for a manager. Another person came by and said no the owner won't allow them for the water cup and she would get in trouble. This was one of the few places open past 9pm. When I walked in I was pleasantly surprised with the decorations and the thought that went into it (see pics). We were the only guests there at that time so I can't comment on the service, but I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by the food. This is my favorite Mexican place in Michigan.
