Although I just started volunteering as a receptionist at this location just the other day, I do…read moreknow a lot about this place and would like to share this information with all of you. If you know a little about the ARC, come by and volunteer. Most of this office's opportunities are volunteer only(although most are field-work spots), you pretty much help out at other places, but this is a large regional office for the newly-combined Dutchess and Ulster Co. branches. (There are some paid spots within the office, but for the most part, most of the office is volunteer work. These spots tend to be the "director-level/executive level spots for paid spots, but it all depends on the situation.) This location does take donations, however clothes are not acceptable donations at this location(an ARC location in Maryland does this). If you're not sure, call this location and find out. Money(checks and cash), and MoneyGram donations are accepted, as well as supplies such as water and the like, are also accepted here. Drop it by. You'll get a tax-donation receipt for any monetary donation you can give. The American Red Cross needs your help in any way you can. You might even benefit yourself, if you have lost something due to natural disasters(or need help looking for someone, even someone who is in the military). Also at this location, they have a transport ERV(Emergency Response Vehicle) that provides the supplies to needy emergencies, based on other factors which I'm not going to get into here. Another thing they have at this location is a blood donation center, which is open every day that the main location is open. Come to the front door(nearest the parked ERV-and up the few stairs), sign in to the guestbook(and later sign-out) and give some blood.

I've never been embarrassed to write about my love for thrift shopping. I've purchased wooden…read morechairs, chest of drawers, rustic end tables, funky lamp bases, metal home accessories, etc with no end in sight. And all it takes is a bucket of warm soapy water, a good cotton small towel to clean these hard surfaces. Now, where I seriously and I mean- seriously draw the line are sofas, mattresses, cushions, pillows, etc. and that to me, is just gross. No offense to anyone. Hubs and I noticed a gently-used $2300+ Pottery Barn dining table at this Kingston, NY ReStore for a flat $700. The poundage on this 8' monstrosity of a dinner table had me sold. Except, it was 2' too big for my dining room. But the price was killer. This ReStore is spacious with furniture gathered into groups. For instance, chest of drawers are grouped together, coffee tables in another group, lamps together, etc. There's leven a back room filled construction items like kitchen/bathroom tiles, hammers, etc ridiculously inexpensive. This is one of the best choices if you are looking for second-hand furniture.

Child Care: The mother of my daughter brought her into school with hand foot and mouth disease…read more When I heard about this and told the director (Mary), she said not to worry and kept her at the school anyway with the disease exposing other children. This is not a place that takes child care seriously. Empathy: I asked through email to schedule a call to meet the teachers and it went five days without a response. When I asked the director (Mary) about why I hadn't heard back from her she immediately got defensive and just talked about how busy she was. I just wanted to work together with the school to know who the teachers of my children were and how I can work together with them for the development of my children. Value: I think that this location is mostly used out of location convenience. I think if there were another child care option in town Honey Bee would either lose business or have to adapt and improve their quality here. Unfortunately they don't have to because of the child care need right now. For context, the mother of my children ran away to dad's in Poughkeepsie with the children and now they are legally residents and have to choose from the day care options there. I would not choose Honey Bee. I would choose Vassar College's day care program over them.

Sadly, these folks don't seem to get animals. I am truly worried that these people are not qualified to assess individual animals' needs and will fail to place their animals in appropriate homes. They have general (and, frankly, arbitrary) guidelines for adopting out pets and the people I spoke to couldn't speak to any individual pet's traits or needs. It was a onerous, depressing and frustrating process just to locate pets on their site and after you spend a long, long time filling out repetitive forms, you have to go over and confirm all the answers on the phone with someone who doesn't have specific knowledge of the animal involved. Truly head spinning. Also, the service there is terrible, they will NOT return calls, you always have to call back and hope to get someone. I truly worry about where the animals in their care end up.
