Still, the busy volunteers were very kind and explained the adoption process clearly. I was able to visit the kitties I was interested in and saw many other cuties too. Their application process starts online on their website. Applying there first and then bringing the printed approval email makes everything go smoother. Once I figured that out, I got the bonded cats on my return visit very quickly and now, about four months later, the two cats are doing very well in their new home. They're healthy, had no problems at the vet check-up, and will be celebrating their two year birthday in August.

Adopted my newest addition to the family, Ivy, from Protectors of Animals back in late August…read more(apologies for such a late review as I've been meaning to do one!). The staff at this location are super friendly and knowledgeable of their adoptable pets. I also appreciated the fact that kittens go home to foster families until they are adopted and are only at the East Hartford location on Saturdays by appointment only. Ivy's foster family even provided the most adorable card, heartfelt note, and Ivy's favorite toys to bring with her new home. I rave about this place to family, friends, and coworkers anytime they ask about Ivy. I strongly recommend anyone who is ready to take on the next step of adopting a new member of their family to do so with Protectors of Animals!

Calm, Peaceful Dog Area: We stopped by to brighten the animals' day, not to adopt. I hadn't been in…read moreyears since I moved out of the area. I was instantly struck by how quiet and peaceful the dog area sounded while I signed the visitor's log upon entering building. Typically on past visits, the loud sounds of multiple dogs barking could be heard from main entry door. I was told by the reception desk that the dog area is not available for visits- that they noticed during the pandemic (no visitors) that the dogs were calm and peaceful, so they changed the visit policy for the dogs' best interest. Can't argue with that- the calm silence was absolutely astounding, and the ideal atmosphere for any dog adjusting to their new, hopefully short-term environment. Call ahead to check the policy for your potential adoption visit- I didn't ask about it. We did see a private visitation in progress for a potential adoption, in one of the small visitation / consultation rooms off the main hall when we walked to the cats and the small furries adjacent to cat zone- happy to see that most cat spaces were empty. All cages / holding spaces looked very well maintained, and animals healthy, which was consistently my experience when I used to visit often when I lived in the area.

Some of the staff was helpful, allowing access to view adoptable animals. One of the female staff…read moremembers who works the front reception area is a very rude and outright nasty individual, she should look to work behind the scenes as she lacks the proper people skills to help the adoption process be more successful. She was also very misleading with the needed adoption info. My wife and I traveled here twice within a day to have interaction with the dog we wanted and our kids at the shelters request. Each way was an hour and a half drive, we were told after we filed the proper forms and meet with the consultant there that upon further review they would not adopt the animal due to the fact that one of my kids was eleven and the puppy could only go to a home where every child was over twelve. This would have been useful info that would have saved me the three hours of round trip driving. What makes it worse is that the mean employee was informed by me the prior trip of my children's ages, at which point she stated that there was no problems and as long as the dog got along with all family members we could take her home with us. They allowed us to spend time withe dog starting to form a bond with her, and then dropped the bomb on us. I would recommend another humane society location over this one any day of the week!!!!

On October 25th 2019, we went to the Simon Foundation hoping to add to our family. We were a bit…read morehesitant because their website didn't show puppies & after a bad experience with another adoption through another agency, we wouldn't take the risk with an older dog because of our children & other pup. THEY HAD A TON OF PUPPIES NOT LISTED ONLINE! (All caps so people know that the availability online of pups is NOT accurate) We went through the pre-adoption process & were so happy when they called to tell us our application had been approved & we made an appointment to go in. We brought our then 7 month old pup Percy with us & the kids & were introduced to all kinds of different dogs who needed their forever homes. The gal who helped us was amazing & really listened to what we were looking for & made personal recommendations based on her experiences with them which helped immensely. After meeting 4 or 5 pups, she brought out Minnie & it was love at first sight! Not only for us & the kids, butr for Percy! After observing their interactions inside, we moved it outside & walked them together & everything just truly clicked - she was it! The dog for our family. We moved forward with the adoption & the process was streamlined, simple & because we had been pre-approved beforehand, we brought Minnie home that very night. We brought her to the vet the next day, she was perfectly healthy & the vet even remarked on how well adjusted she was for a rescue dog aka she was absolutely shown tons of love & attention in their care. He was impressed which speaks volumes. It has been about 9 months & Minnie is seriously the BEST dog in the world & we are so incredibly fortunate & grateful that we found the Simon Foundation. She completed our family. THANK YOU!

He has had yearly physicals and vaccinations all through Eastbrook. This is only the 3rd time we've needed attention for minor injuries. At best, from past experience, it would probably be a 15 minute "in the exam room" visit. I called today and was told they couldn't see him for approximately another 2 weeks!!!! What is the point of being a client when we can't even get our dog seen for a minor injury? We were told to try other vets in the area. My suspicion is the practice now turns all their time to "well visits" to make the most amount of money. I called the veterinarian we used with our other dogs (switched due to a move and proximity to our new home) and they had an appointment for us the next day. Needless to say, we will be making a longer trek for healthcare for our pet and no longer using Eastbrook.
