My dentist refered me to Dr. Son to assess what appeaed on Xrays to be infections at the end of seveal root canals I'd had done decades ago. He was able to repair the teeth and infected gum areas for two teeth but surgery was required to remove the infected tissue near the root of anothe tooth. D. Son, his dental assistants, and his office staff were all absolutely wondeful--they all gave me the information I needed and were unfailingly suppotive and kind. Dr Son is a great endodontist. I was referred to him for opinion on a tooth with rootcanal that was having problems. He went over it thoroughly, explained everything very well and suggested the next course of treatment, which BTW is not in his office. His front office staff is courteous too. Dr. Son is highly skilled, kind, thorough, and caring. I came to him with an emergency, in a lot of pain, and quite scared. Even though he had a full schedule, he made a special effort to treat me on the VERY SAME DAY, just to help me achieve relief as soon as possible from the pain/infection. Dr. Son kept me informed every step of the way and, knowing that I have a lot of anxiety surrounding dental procedures, put my mind at ease by checking in with me numerous times during the root canal to ensure that I was okay. Also, his office is extremely clean and his staff is friendly and competent. Because my teeth require extensive (multi-visit) work, Dr. Son explained the proposed treatment plan to me in great detail and patiently answered all of my questions. I had previously consulted with a different dentist who proposed performing about three times as much work as Dr. Son (including the extraction of a tooth that, in fact, was salvageable). I am so glad I decided to seek another opinion in Dr. Son--his honesty and respect for his patients is very obvious and refreshing! My fear of dentists comes from many bad experiences in the past. Dr. Son is excellent. He did my root canal and because the tooth had a crown, the process was a little more involved and time consuming. I was amazed that I felt no pain - not even when the novacaine was injected. He does wonderful work and his fee is much more reasonable than most of the endodontists in Montgomery County. The Best dental care I have ever experienced!!! I wish I had come to this office sooner. I have dental Anxiety but Dr.son gave every effort to make me feel ease at the office. Dr. Son is amazing! He is so patient, compassionate, and talented. I apparently have very complicated nerve anatomy, but he was able to perform my root canal successfully. He requested I come back for a 2nd visit to finish so that he could have sufficient time to complete it carefully (I was only charged for the 1st visit). He explained everything he was doing, tried to be as gentle as possible, and checked in throughout the procedure to ensure I wasn't having pain. Not that you will ever want a root canal, but if you need one, Dr Son is the best in the business. Through a combination of bad genetics and even worse brushing habits, I've had to get several root canals, so I'm able to compare different root canal specialists. Dr Son, who has done two root canals for me, has been the most skilled by far. The office is extremely high tech, from the paperless client filing system to the DSLR mounted on a microscope above the chair to the digital x-ray system. His surgical skills match the high tech - very advanced, very helpful. The office itself runs like a Swiss watch. I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes to get into the chair. Office staff are friendly and efficient. And here's the best part - Dr Son genuinely cares about doing a good job. He takes you into his office after the procedure to show you pictures of what he's done, explaining everything to you (if you're interested in seeing the close-up pics - I'm sure some people would rather not see them!). Unbelievably, Dr Son has even called the day after procedures to check that everything is feeling OK. LIke I said, you never want to get a root canal, but if you need one, this is the place to go. read more

His skill set is amazing, he takes whatever time is needed to explain the problem, the treatment and the process. If you are searching for an endodontist in the area, you'd be well served by starting with Dr. Son. He went above and beyond in his service and I cannot recommend him enough. A year ago over the holidays, I found out from my dentist, who is located in another state, that one of my teeth was likely infected. This was a tooth that had a prior root canal from many years ago. I immediately went to a nearby endodontist to confirm, and they weren't clear which treatment option (re-do, microsurgery, etc.) was best. So I took no action for the time being. Once I got back to the DMV, I looked up and found Dr. Son. He diagnosed the issue, including why the prior root canal may have failed. He was very clear about my options, and was candid about the success and risks of each one. I opted to re-do the root canal. Having had other root canals redone before (lesson: never go to a dentist for this; go to an endodontist) I know when someone has better bedside manners and operating skills. Dr. Son is very calm and skilled in helping the patient through a daunting procedure. Whether coincidence or not, I also experienced significantly less pain with Dr. Son. Dr. Son accelerated the time table for the follow-up because I was due to move back to my home state. As it turns out, during the follow-up, the tooth hadn't yet experienced the rate of the healing he wanted, plus the medication inside had already been absorbed away. So he cleaned it more and refreshed the medication. He also added more checkups, as my departure date kept slipping to the right, so he could monitor the healing while I was still here. As my departure date finally got close, he scheduled the final checkup, and sealed the tooth permanently. I just saw the X-Rays and the bone around the tooth is definitely healed. One more thing: The day before my final checkup, I had also chipped the existing crown on that tooth (my fault) and Dr. Son smoothed out the sharp edges and referred me to a couple colleagues to get that taken care of. All in all, it's great to have a doctor who clearly takes pride in their work. It really gives you peace of mind. Unfortunately, I'm moving, otherwise I'd have found my endodontist for life! Dr. Joseph Son is AMAZING! I've had two other root canals, both done by other endodontists and Dr. Son is by far the most skilled. My dentist referred me after a crown replacement resulted in temperature sensitivity that did not go away. I was able to make an appointment within a week. Dr. Son has a very calming demeanor that puts you at ease, especially if you're about to do a 1.5 hour root canal procedure. His equipment was by far the most advanced I've experienced. He uses Carl Zeiss equipment and lens (if you're a Sony fan you'll know) with a digital camera mounted to take pictures. He and his assistants were very thorough and I felt no pain at all during the procedure. He regularly asked if I was OK and was very efficient. I would highly recommend Dr. Joseph Son! read more

On a scale of 1-10, my fear and anxiety of getting a root canal were at least at a 10 or higher. I consulted everyone I knew about the procedure, in advance, so I could prepare for the worst. With Dr. Son, I didn't need to worry! He is such a genuine find that I can't imagine having a better doctor to treat your tooth pain. Like the previous reviewer mentioned, his office is high-tech, absolutely stunning and plush. The doctor and his staff are gentle with you, explaining the procedures and what you'll experience. Dr. Son even gave me a choice: did I want to hear what was going on (sort of a play-by-play) or did I want to just rest....I opted for the latter, and I was in my own world. NO PAIN AT ALL. He is excellent and diagnosed the problem and wasn't pushy on what I should do. He explained my options and consulted with my dentist to see what she thought also. I went to Dr. Son in September 2015 for a root canal and he did a great job! I was in pain for 8 months before going to Dr. Son, and my pain is completely gone now. Customer service was great, he was very friendly and the receptionist at the front desk was extremely nice. I was prepared to pay for the services in one large lump sum. I didn't expect them to work with me and allow me to set up a monthly payment plan! Overall, just a positive experience. To me, it's the best of the best. I am a very satisfied patient. Dr. Son and his staff are rock stars, the best of the best. This comes from someone who is so paranoid of dentists, I didn't see one for 21 years. My new dentist referred me to Dr. Son for a front tooth root canal and I arrived at my initial evaluation sitting in the chair stiff as a poker. The doc put me at ease...he said the worst part would be the shot and he was right. Even that was skillfully executed...I didn't know he'd inserted the needle until halfway into the shot. It's hard to believe this is a dental facility. The chairs are soft and comfy, and the office is decorated with a soothing green color. So what I expected to be complete agony was perfectly pain free, I was done in about an hour. Dr. Son gave me pain medication and his home number, so if I had any questions or concerns I can call him anytime. How many dental professionals will give out their home number?
