Solid Beverly Hills Salon Like most people who really care about their hair, we tend to follow our hair stylists first and foremost, so the salons in which they dwell at is secondary. Damien Silva is my hair stylist and he's 5 stars all the way. Been going to him since 2009 and he's always done right by me. His specialty is color, but he cuts hair just as good, IMO. Once again, I'll follow Damien anywhere, and he currently works out of Joseph Martin. Joseph Martin is your prototypical Beverly Hills salon. It has lots of windows so the salon gets plenty of natural light, and the employees are always friendly and attentive. You can ask any employee for complimentary beverages like water, coffee, tea, soda, etc while you're there (once again, very typical of most salons). All of the stylists here too are friendly and seem to genuinely get along with each other, which is nice. I think my only gripe with the salon itself is that space can be a little tight. There's only 1 small circular couch for people to wait on, and the rest of the space is filled to the brim with salon chairs, hair drying stations, hair washing stations, and other salon paraphernalia. This is definitely not a large and spacious salon that's for sure. At the end of the day, this is a solid salon and most people will overlook the space issues because we're really just here for our individual stylists. I've been coming here for 8-9 years....love it!!! Cut, color, nails, anything they have to offer. Been seeing the same stylist, Daniel, since I found this gem. I adore the other stylists, front desk, shampooists..... everyone. And then today..... Martin, as in 1 of 4 of the owners of Joseph Martin, managed to OBLITERATE me in the front of the salon while clients and stylists looked on. When I say obliterate, he YELLED, he POINTED his finger, he DEGRADED by his body language and words, YELLED even more, and then DISMISSIVELY WAVED me off as he stormed off. I wasn't sure if I was asking Martin or my 6 year old child a question bc the behavior was absolutely uncalled for. In fact, my child never even acted like the way this asshole did today. The front staff apologized after witnessing the incident. Stylists apologized and one of the owners came over to apologize as well. I truly do not believe there would've been the need for these apologies had Martin "the stylist and 1/4 owner" would've just answered my question in a polite way. So what was my question that ENRAGED him: "Can you please tell me why my consultation was cut short when you came over to say something to the colorist?" Not even joking....this is what unraveled Martin. I'm glad I didn't get the chance to ask him why he is such an asshole. Could you imagine his reaction to that?!?!? My Mom and I have been going to this salon for years. My Mom and I both get our hair cut by Joseph, who is absolutely spectacular. I am extremely picky when it comes to haircuts (as is my Mom) and ever since we found Joseph we refuse to go anywhere else. I have even managed to get my husband to start going there (as he keeps his hair a bit on the long side, making the cut more complicated than the average man's hair) and he got the best haircut he has ever had in his life! I also get my color done by Jane, and have never received more compliments in my life. Not a day has gone by without me being approached my a complete stranger asking if my hair is my natural color and, if not, who colored it. For the record, Jane dyed my hair a reddish/auburn/copper, but it looks completely natural (unlike many red dye jobs which can look completely ridiculous). I have attached a picture where you can see my hair but not my face (for personal reasons) to give you an idea. This photo was taken about 2 and a half months after Jane died it, and it is still holding the color excellently. It was only a little bit brighter when it was first done. So, bottom line, ask for Joseph for a cut and Jane for color and you will never be disappointed! To be honest, this place is a little on the pricey side for my and my husband's budget, but it's the one thing we are willing to splurge on as they do such a wonderful job! read more

I've been going to Joseph Martin for many years and no matter the service, I've always been treated with the greatest respect. Whether you're one of the people going to get ready for a big night (or big day), you could do no better than Joseph Martin. I came to JM because my esthetician was moving from Jose Eber to JM and where she goes, I go. Gladys Bogado learned the art of skin care from the best in the business (Aida Grey) and I began seeing Gladys longer than I'm willing to admit. The thing about Gladys is that in all of the years (decades) she's been taking care of my skin, she's never missed a thing. From the moment she noticed something wrong that needed medical care to just making me look and feel fresh and new, nobody knows my age, I've never needed injections of any sort (some people guess I had them, but they're wrong - it's Gladys' attention) and I'm always complimented on my skin. If you would like a good facial that is more than somebody slathering on products and charging more simply because it's Beverly Hills - talk with Gladys. You can thank me later. I've had to prepare for every kind of event at Joseph Martin: High Holy Days, bar mitzvah, weddings, awards season to just the daily grind and I've never been let down. Service is the key to everything in this town and everybody at JM makes you their priority. Whether it is the warm welcome you get when you come in, the attentive staff who are working behind the scenes to make the stylists jobs easier to the stylists themselves - when I go to JM for what I call "beautification day," I've never regretted going. I feel better, happier when I leave JM and the great thing is that even though they moved from Rodeo Drive, it actually makes things easier. My hair: I can thank two people for that Koki and Chris. The entertainment world is not all about looks, but it certainly has a lot to do with looks! My experience with both Koki and Chris have been great. It was easy for me to get paired up with them because Gladys found the right two people for me. She was spot on. Koki is a great colorist and he's not showy or flamboyant as so many are, he's just an artist who enjoys his craft. There was nothing wrong with my color - no adjustments had to be made, no annoying tint that I needed to get fixed and no unnecessary chatting that made beautification day take longer than it had to take. All I will say is that if you want somebody who is into the artistry of hair and you need color - Koki would be a great stop before you head to your stylist. I may have the only straight beauty team in the entire town, and it's a first for me, but it works! Chris is my stylist and he's young, but my fear about having a younger guy cut my hair was that he'd cut my hair "too young" and it would look ridiculous. I was wrong and had nothing to worry about. Chris listened to what I wanted and by the time I left his chair, everything was great. I looked exactly the way I wanted to and my bf told me it was exactly what he was hoping for too. It's so important to have a stylist that listens to you and Chris did that - and then some. Joseph Martin is a Beverly Hills staple - a temple to beauty, service and the experience one wants and deserves when you pick a team of people to take care of your needs. The owners (Joseph and Martin) know their clients and make a point of saying hello to everybody and make sure you got exactly what you needed out of the visit. Giving this place 5 stars because of my hairdresser Samuel. I've been getting my haircut from Samuel for the past 13 years and he has never disappointed me! His cuts also last for a very long time and I get my hair cut every 6 months. The salon is nice and clean and always very busy. HAIR TRAGEDY!!!!!! I took me a couple weeks before writing this review and I am not the type to write negative reviews but I feel I have been not only physically but emotionally damaged as a person and as a woman who has zero confidence right now after my hair was completely damaged and ruined by a man named TRAVIS IVAN. I am not the person to wish anyone wrong but after what he did to me I just hope Karma gets him good .. To know someone like that is working at a place of such good name while damaging peoples hair and lives because he not only ruined my hair which is one of the most important things for a woman and I think for anyone, he also ruined my 30th Bday which was 3 days before and I had a big celebration I had to cancel and just hide and lock myself in the room. This awful man I just hope to never find on the street after what he did to me!! I came in with already blond hair and I just wanted to brighten it up. He first did a "balayage" which he obv had no clue on what he was doing, did it on my entire hair without telling me so that he could charge me more off course . I first had ORANGE/BURNT ugly looking hair which he insisted was a "honey" color that looked good and I was just being picky. Went I came back to fix it the next day because I was really unhappy with my hair which I wish I never went back in there . He then did color again pretending as if he knew what he was doing and completely FRIED and OVERPROCESSED my hair leaving me nearly bald, I was watching my hair fall off and break like gum while he was trying to hide it under the sink and kept acting like he knew what he was doing while I am sitting there crying, I then had to chop it off from my waiste to almost my shoulders and would probably have to take more off . I was an experiment to him , my hair went form orange to off white, to gray to a terrible brown, cooper poo color ohh and the best or would say worst part is his mom was there with him helping him telling him what to do as they both look at each other like ohh no let's just try something else. ohh wait not that try this let's gamble with this girls hair and leave her bald who cares!! He was so RUDE and Disrespectful, heartless, mean ,awful person. He was like ohh come on you don't need to cry Jezzz , he like pretty much blamed me for ruining my hair!! Like I am crying right now as I write this, I have been crying for a couple weeks since this happened and I am not sure when I will recover from such physical and emotional damage!!! I must say JOSEPH was absolutely an AMAZING man who gave me the money back and said would try to help however he can which I really appreciate his kindness and understanding but again he should never have such unprofessional, rude, disrespectful, clueless person work for him because it won't not only ruin his name and good reputation but could also result in a liability. I did not want to write this only because of how nice he was but I just can't let go of the damage he caused and how this ruined me as a woman. I have been spending so much money and time on products and extensions and ways to fix this. I don't want to leave the house unless I am wearing a hat. I feel by writing this I could also save other people from this happening to them as i wish someone would have saved me from falling in the hand of this Awful man. I went to the salon located in Beverly Hills Hotel. Had my hair and makeup done the day of the Oscars. I was nervous because I am from out of town and had never had anything done at this salon before. I figured they must be good if they have a location at BHH. I could not have been happier!! I wish I could remember the guys names who did my hair and makeup. They did a fabulous job!! One did my hair WHILE the other did my makeup. I was in and out in an hour. Very affordable!! My appointment was at 10am and my look lasted until I went home at 1am. They did exactly what I asked. I highly recommend going to this salon if you're in Beverly Hills. I had The colorist here dye/pigment my hair 3 times to get it brown and there is still some red/auburn highlight in my hair. I was extremely respectful staff and colorist Anival Morales did a horrible job and extremely rude! I have friends and enemies at JM Salon. I have heard terrible things about the owners, that I think are untrue. Some say they skim the employee accounts...I think that's not true. I know they provide excellent service, and they have excellent stylists and colorists. I used to be a client. Now I cannot go because there is an important matter which made me switch salons. They have some excellent employees. Some of them however...people are people. I am an important person to many powerful people around the world. I recommend JM to them here, but be careful which stylist and colorist you choose. Joseph and Martin are good people, find out who they recommend. They will keep you with the best. He has fixed my hair from a fried and horrible color that my previous stylist did; and I've been going to him for about five years now and I have never left disappointed. Fantastic place. Anival is my absolute hair god. He saved my hair after a really unfortunate experience at loft 647 ( don't go to Dianne ).
