Let me start off by saying that I would have gone to my original salon if they had an organic version of the keratin treatment that I wanted. After searching for an organic option for the keratin treatment I found this salon; Jose Luis Salon.
THE CALL: When I called to make an appointment the owner picked up the phone by saying "hello", not the name of the salon, but as if I were a friend. I had to ask if this was in fact the Jose Luis Salon and he said 'yes'. Because I have beautiful, curly hair, I told him that I wanted the keratin that got rid of the frizz, NOT the one that made your hair stick straight. He said that they had that product and so I set up the appointment.
THE APPOINTMENT: My appointment was on Thursday, July 26th at 4pm. When I arrived I was taken back at how unattractive and somewhat dirty the salon was. The owner was on the phone and literally asked my name and told me to take a seat and wait, even though there was NOBODY else in the salon. After I sat down the assistant said she could go ahead and wash my hair. Now, I'm no hair stylist, but I do know how to wash hair and I understand to wet the hair entirely and then rinse ALL of the shampoo/conditioner out. This did not happen. When I sat in the chair I waited for the owner to get off the phone which took about 10 minutes. Again, I was the only person in the salon and this was my first (and last) time going to this salon. When the owner decided to give me attention I explained to him that I had really curly hair and that I wanted to KEEP THE CURLS but lose the frizz. I said this several times to make sure we were on the same page and he kept reassuring me that he understood what I was wanting. While he was drying my hair he told me how awful my hair looked and how terrible the highlights were. I had just gotten a trim and the highlights done not even a week before by a very well known stylist here in Miami, so this started to raise a RED FLAG. He then proceeded to ask me where I was from and when I told him Charlotte, North Carolina he said, AND I QUOTE, "That place is such a DUMP!"...ummm, excuse me??? I asked him why he thought that and he said he went there 5 years ago and the downtown life was awful. Sir, you cannot go from South Beach to Charlotte and even compare them! They are on two completely opposite ends of the spectrum! I explained to him that I grew up and lived there for 22 years, and that he must have gone to an odd part of the city. Right before he sprayed the treatment in my hair I asked if this was the one that got rid of the frizz ONLY, and he said yes. While the treatment sat in my hair he started to attend to another female client. They were right beside me so I played on my phone but could still hear their conversation. They weren't exactly quiet. The OWNER of the salon talked about his personal life which included sex. He very much went into detail about what he does with girls and I literally wanted to run out of the salon! I could not believe the unprofessionalism of the OWNER of this salon!!! When I was done with my appointment my hair was STICK STRAIGHT! I asked him several times if this was temporary and that I would get my curls back, and HE SAID YES.
THE AFTERMATH: Two days later, on Saturday, July 28th I took a shower and washed my hair. When I got out, I WAS MORTIFIED!!! MY HAIR WAS STICK STRAIGHT!!! In a panic, I called the salon and spoke with the owner and told him about the situation. He said, "Your hair will be stick straight for about 2 weeks." After crying for an hour and going to my original salon to have them give me some type of flattering cut, I figured I could live with it for the two weeks that the OWNER had stated the stick straightness would last.
TODAY: It is now August 20th, and my hair is STILL STICK STRAIGHT!!!!! There is not even a wave in my hair. If you're looking to ruin curly hair, be in a dirty salon, AND deal with a completely UNPROFESSIONAL OWNER, then by all means, go to Jose Luis Salon! I for one, will be telling everyone I know and people I run into to avoid it like the plague!! read more
